Dude! We were thinking the same thing, but I didn’t want to say anything. (Well, except un-signing the petition part) Y’know, I liked the OS Cheetara mainly because as a kid, I really liked her because she was a role model for girls in my day. Strong, independent yet feminine and motherly. If Cheetara wasn’t in that episode, I wasn’t watching it! Sorry, but the NS rather butchered her for me and I’m not digging the two main females that are “heavily” involved in the series.
I feel like feminist only without the totally ranting tackiness, man hating, and bra burning stereotypes that come with it. WE R WOMEN! HEAR US ROAR!
I hate to seem sexist, but at least he’s drawing stuff. I guess I don’t see how absolutely discriminating it is because I try to ignore stuff like that. Considering how many times they had to draw her in weird poses just to make the animation seem fluid, I’m sure this isn’t the most provocative position he’s drawn her in. I think we should be happy that he’s working on some ThunderCats-oriented stuff rather than flip out because it could be taken as sexist.
I’m sorry if this is offensive but I’m a guy, so I guess I’ll never understand it. And to be clear, I do find it a little ridiculous he couldn’t just draw a regular pose of her. But hey, at least it attracts attention to the series.
Sex sells. Save the show anyway you can…In a negative way, which I can clearly say more about Marisha Ray and her friends in the other pics I’ve seen of them supporting the series. It makes me question him more now as more than an art director, but his character as a person.
Having talked to him on Facebook and seeing his married, I don’t think he really is sexist.

I’m pretty sure they did that out of freewill. I say any exposure (of the show) is good exposure at this point.
This may be true, but I guess how we view things is different. I guess we can agree to disagree on the approach of how to support the show.
I truly think the best form of support for the show is signing the petition, sending emails to CN, and spreading the word about the show. I don’t think they should resort to these type of images to support the show, but it does help even in the slightest ways. That’s the only thing we disagree on.
I really don’t like talking about anything deemed sexist. It’s just an uncomfortable topic for me because I feel I’ll never understand it.
Personally I didn’t see anything sexist about it, because frankly I didn’t see anything sexual about it. Sure you see her butt, but so what? He was just drawing her running away in a more dynamic pose.
If you see a drawing of a woman running and all you can think of is sex that says more about you than the artist IMO.

This isn’t difficult though.
Fans like to see their heroes and heroines pictured…well, heroically.
When you look at the (final?) sketches of Lion-O and Panthro you can see those heroic parts of their character - strength, dignity, even valor.
If you can see those qualities in that sketch of Cheetara, I’m not sure what that says.
Fans get snippy when they see their heroes and heroines pictured in ways that diminish their worth. Lion-O fans (continue to) flip out when they feel he is treated disrespectfully or shown unfavorably by the creators. It is totally fair game to call the creators out on it when it happens to our resident cheetah. Moreso. Tons of kids look up to Cheetara. The character deserves more respect from the creators. If we fans don’t speak up, the creators will never know we don’t respect (and have stopped watching) their work.
Anyway, this is supposed to be fun. Instead, it is disappointing and not fun when they get the basic, easy stuff wrong. If they won’t even picture a heroic image of a great character like Cheetara, I feel like I’ve wasted my money and time, and that things won’t change for the better.
Hammy, if you don’t mind me saying so, I think you are capable of understanding these things just fine. Your posts are always respectful, positive, and optimistic. I also notice you stand up for the things you believe in. Important for us all to do the same.

Now I’ve done an experiment with my 58 year old mother by showing her the picture. She’s a conservative Pentecostal woman, but is rather open minded about things.

Strange. I did the same to one of my friends (I don’t know how we both thought of this) and she said “It’s just a cat thingy running”. I asked if she found it sexist and she said “Huh?” Keep in mind she has no clue about the series at all.

I don’t think he’s sexist.
I think he wanted the picture to be sexy, but it’s not like she’s bent over touching her toes or straddling her staff. Don’t get me wrong, I still think it’s cheesecake, but it could have been a lot worse ( walk through a comic book or a video game store :eek:). Her butt is very prominent, so it does tip closer to cheesecake compared to what we got for Lion-O and Panthro. So while the pose does tip over into cheesecake territory, it still demonstrates Cheetara doing what she does best.
Nothing wrong with a character being sexy and alluring. I think that’s part of what they wanted when they recreated this character. The sultry speed demonProblem is, she didn’t really amount to much else in the show, and so it can feel like salt in the wounds. To once again fall in line with what Cheetariffic said, we all wanted/deserved more from the writers where Cheetara was concerned.
That being said, I like to think of myself as a feminist and I personally would have zero problem with a 18X24 version of this framed and hung on my bedroom wall (ahem, signed by Dan Norton obviously 
). I’m not trying to invalidate or sweep the opinions of those who are turned off by it under the rug ( not even suggesting I have the knowledge or grounds to do so). Really, I understand where you are coming from, and to an extent, I agree that its not so cool to see the starring female tossed into that particular box. As a fare well, it would have been nice to see something that made the audience think oh damn, Cheetara is NOT to be trifled with! Something more like what Panthro and Lion-O got.
You mention Lion-O and Panthro. Why aren’t those considered sexist? They’re beefcake pics just as much as the Cheetara is a cheesecake pic. Do you think girls won’t look at those pictures and find them sexy?
I see that Cheerara picture and I see Cheetara doing what Cheetara does best. Running. If Dan had enough room on the canvas to throw the rest of her legs in there I don’t even think we’d be having this conversation. Even though she’d be in the same exact pose.
