Yes. Perhaps that is the disappointing thing about the show ending this way. There were so many missed opportunities to show real depth and quality. The sketch underscores this. Check out that Huff Post article. Spells it out fairly clearly.
There were lots of great moments in the show and I will remember those fondly. I will not, however, just accept the parts that don’t seem worthy of the franchise.

I like Dan Norton’s Cheetara pic. I see her as a runner despite her cute bottom.
If it makes everyone feel better, I calmed down about it.
In the first picture I see nothing sexual. So you see Black Widow’s back. And? Is she doing anything sexual? Is her pose provocative in the least? No. She’s punching in the air with her back completely straight. Though I do think her punching in the air is silly. Why didn’t the artist add a gun to her hand? Would’ve made more sense.
As for the second picture…honestly, taken on their own without the whole group being in similar poses I wouldn’t think most of those were sexual. I would think nothing of Iron Man or Hawkeye’s pose. Thor looks more awkward than sexual, cause frankly why would he be smashing the ground toward Hawkeye? And, well, Captain America just looks like he’s trying to break his spine. The exception being the Hulk because rather than just having his butt showing he looks like he’s trying to spread his cheeks.
There are several things I would’ve changed.
Get rid of the love triangle. Either have Lion-O or Tygra get together with Cheetara without some kind of asspull to try to cause .
Build up Cheetara’s past some more and show her relationship with Jaga more.
Change how Pumyra betrayed the Thundercats. Making it a subconscious betrayl due to Mumm-Ra’s magic like how the OP suggested and not have her run off with with Mumm-Ra would’ve been cool actually.
Yes, Black Widow is posed facing backward. In fact, she is the only character posed facing backward. She is also the only character posed, not in a heroic stance, but in one that highlights her figure. The delineation between each of her breasts and buttocks are plainly visible, yet the same is not true of the corresponding intimate body parts of the male characters. And as you noted, she is curiously the only character depicted without a weapon. If you do not see how all of this is sexist, then you either do not understand what sexism is or you are being deliberately obtuse.
I’ve seen the picture before, and it was made to be sexist. I know that Dan wouldn’t blatantly make something sexist. When it comes to the Avengers, all Black Widow did was serve as eye candy. At least Cheetara served a little more of a purpose than that.

Subtle sexism is still sexism.
And he besmirches that by reducing her to a collection of body parts to be objectified.
Her stance looks pretty heroic to me. And I’d argue that Hawkeye and Captain America’s pose also highlights their figures. And she’s not the only one without a weapon. I don’t see the Hulk carrying anything. And no I don’t see it as sexist. If it was a male in the same exact pose (not one deliberately exaggerated)people would think nothing of it.
I mean tell me honestly…did any of you actually think that picture was sexist before you saw the drawing below it?
Why isn’t He-man considered sexist? He’s a guy who is drawn with an unrealistic male body and walks around in nothing but boots and furry underwear. Double standards work both ways.
Anyway that’s all I’m saying on this because this is derailing the thread.
For me, the part that was very thread relevant was that I (and probably others) wanted to see a big change in the way some characters were represented in the show.
It can be difficult to talk about the female characters for lots of reasons. So, even though some want to discuss it, I think we just get frustrated and either leave the board or stop supporting the franchise or show.
It seems that this is just such an easy issue to do well in this day and age. Things have changed so much about who is watching these shows, and the “peripheral demographics” aren’t as peripheral as the creators think. I think the next version of the show will be more successful if the creators can get that.
Anyway, a lot of the frustration is just because we care a lot about the characters we like, or the show, or the Thundercats franchise, or some combination (for me in any case).
I think there is more to say constructively and respectfully (and with some humor?) overall about the handling of women in the show. I’ll think about it and maybe post a different thread. I won’t say any more about it in this thread.

It would have been so much fun if Bengali made a cameo in What Lies Above Part I and II!
He could have been the cat that made it to the skies despite his “limitations” as Vultaire said. Just one scene with him at Vultaire’s side winking at the Tcats crew would have been priceless. He could have helped in the battle in part II also.
