Definitely. It would be nice to have some figures for the collector fans, but without the pressure on them to keep the series on the air solely with their sales.

Still doesn’t make a lot of sense though. Blame low toy sales but they didn’t promote them at ALL on tv. Not even one commercial period. Seems like more of a set up to fail by cartoon network to me.
I just think it’s hilarious that Toonami has already promoted it better than CN did ever. It’s the same with Symbionic Titan as well. It’s like Toonami is screaming “Hey, we’re better than you, so we’ll advertise our good shows that people actually want to see.” CN puts too much money into 2-3 shows to get a profit instead of equally treating shows to get a bigger profit. It’s like every show besides Adventure Time and Regular Show are always under watch so they can be cancelled immediately after they don’t make as much of a profit as they want, while AT and RS get renewed for three more seasons without even questioning the risk of stale writing or loss in rating (the former I find a huge problem with both shows).
I might start watching some of the other shows too.
I actually think Adventure Time is quite funny to watch with kids.

Meanwhile we’re waiting on pins and needles here for the fate of Thundercats.
It doesn’t help either that sites like Topless Robot, when they mention Season 1, Book 3 being released on DVD refer to it as, “Season Only, Book Last.” That irks me for some reason.
Then again, almost everything Topless Robot does irks me.
If CN is smart, they’ll look at the numbers TMNT did, as well as the performance of Transformers Prime and MLP: FiM and realize that they need to have their own entry in the nostalgia market in order to compete, if for no other reason than to keep their hat in the ring and remain relevant.
The difference with TMNT, TF Prime and MLP compared to TC is that they have strong toy sales.
I haven’t seen TMNT yet but in Prime’s case the series has steadily got better and better all the time. In fact last weeks episode of Prime ‘‘Alpha;Omega’’ was one of the best episodes ever…in fact one of the best storied cartoons from any cartoon series I can think of.
As for NS TC…the premiere was good but all the epsidoes after it were inconsistant ranging from good, some very good even better than the premiere and some bland, boring and stupid.
If anythnh it may have been the inconsitancy that turned fans away. One week its great showing the sword being created and fighting duelists etc…then you have stories about trying to catch a big fish and paper folders.
But that’s not why the toy sales weren’t the way they should be. Because the show simply wasnt advertised at all is why it didn’t work. I also think it was one of those shows that was far too mature for a toyline in the first place. I understand your an OS-is-best-no-matter-what fan so I won’t argue with that.
The toy sales were bad because they were terrible. I just meant as far as viewers watching in the inconsistancy might have turned them away.
I am not an OS is best no matther what fan. I think Prime is far superior to the original series and Beast Wars etc. NS TC had a couple amazing episodes that were better than OS, but again thats a couple episodes out of 25. OS had a load of good epsides with only a a dozen or so poor episodes out of 130.
But saying it was to mature for a toyline shows what a mess the writers, producers etc made of the new series.
You’re saying that is if them taking a darker direction was a mistake. Young Justice was too mature for a toyline, and they even cancelled the toyline because of it. Does that mean it’s a mess of a show because it’s darker and more in-depth than other DC shows? Not at all. It’s probably one of the best written shows out there. While I think the OS was decent, the writing for it was so incredibly repetitive and formulaic that it’s impossible not to criticize it. You could take into account that all 80s shows were like that, but then again, you could also take into account that comparing the OS to the NS is not something you can compare. It’s because the NS was so different than the OS. It was aimed towards older kids and the show as a whole wasn’t just some plot to sell a ton of toys like the OS.
I am saying from a marketing point making it darker and more mature wasn’t a good idea as it doesn’t really appeal to younger kids…and if younger kids don’t really like the tv show that much they will not want toys of the show.
And they toys were so poor and childish adult fans didn’t buy them.
It’s just a case of the writers, Cartoon Network/ Warner Bros and Bandai all being on a different page having a different target audience in mind.
Okay, that makes more sense. I think that’s why it’s good that it’s going on Toonami so it can finally get the audience it’s going for. Since the toys are basically dead, there’s really no reason to call them stupid for not trying to sell more toys by getting it in an earlier time slot. If the powers that be would have made the decision between making it a dark show or making it to sell toys, we would probably have a second season now. Instead they tried to do both at once. I think going the darker direction did attract more people, but as said before, did not help the toys. If they would have just never done a toyline or just limited it to a few figures with good quality, it would have worked much better. On the other hand, if they would have made it a more kid-friendly show so they could sell toys, that would have worked as well. Either would have been a much better decision than what happened to the series.
Exactly hammy. We are on the same page now.
Instead of going the kid friendly or adult based road they went inbetween and ended up failing.
I truely hope we get a second season and they get a problems sorted out.
Good discussion so far, though I’d just like to point out a few things, Mark:
-TF Prime had managed to do fine for a while without the benefit of tie-in toys. Sure, there had been Transformers toys on the market already when the show came out, but nothing tied directly to that particular show. Only recently have we started seeing Transformers toys based on it.

Same with MLP:FiM. I’ve only seen any toys associated with it fairly recently. Most of my fellow Bronies were complaining for a long time about how they could never find any actual toys based on it until now.

The toys for the new TMNT show have just come out. So it’s too early to tell, really, how well they’re going to do. But I’ve seen them and they look very-well made. And have you seen that sewer playset?
Then again, Playmates pretty much built their business on TMNT and they’ve been at this for decades, so they’ve had that long to get it right and perfect it.
By contrast, Bandai’s never really been all that great with their toys. Even their most successful lines like Power Rangers and Ben 10 either looked cheap or were kind of hit-and-miss. TMNT gets nicely-sculpted figures, some cool vehicles and a three level playset. What does Thundercats get? some figures and vehicles made of cheap-grade plastic and a chintzy Tower of Omens. In short, they were the wrong company to entrust with the license. And when it failed, they basically took a bath on it.
Looking at the big picture, though, I don’t know what other toy company would have been willing to take them. Hasbro has Transformers, G.I. Joe, My Little Pony and Star Wars, and those licenses are making them plenty of money already. There’s Mattel, but I wouldn’t trust them any further than I could throw them after how they handled the 2000’s MOTU line and their DC Universe Classics. ToyBiz might work. The figures they’ve been doing for their Marvel license have been decent, and the stuff they’ve done for The Avengers movie like the Quinjet and the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier have been impressive. But I don’t know if they’d be quite up to the standards of what we’d expect.
Playmates might do well, if they’re willing to take on another nostalgia property and give TCats the same care and attention they gave to TMNT. Then we might have something there.

Slithor Prime had toys over 1 year ago but they were first editions and they changed…thats a long story lol. Fact is we are getting good Prime toys on the shelves. But again Hasbro Takara had a lot of money from movies etc to fall back on and support Prime.
TMNT toys hit USA in the summer and they are coming here in the UK between December and April. I truely hope the 1st December release dat on Amazon is correct.
I wouldn’t trust Mattel either they have ruined all the lines they have worked on. It’s a shame as they used to be a great company. As hammy mentioned Young Justice, they ruined that toy line. When will DC just wise up and go to Hasbro. Look at what they have done with the Marvel films…then look at what Mattel produced for Green Lantern, toys arguably worse than Bandai Thundercats.
I really think Playmates could do great things with Thundercats when you see what they have done with the new series and classic style Turtles.
