ThunderCats Fan Comic?

You’ all would be amazed at what comes out of my twisted mind!

definitely sounds fun to design. wow, you writers are on fire with these awesome ideas.

I also like the blending of Asian cultures, but like I said before, I think South East Asian like Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam cultures may work a little better, if only because I think those geographic regions more closely match the environment where I think the monkians live, more tropical and forested areas.

But them having a government and society like ancient Japan or China I think is a good idea, and I guess the class system works too. I’m trying to figure out where Addicus fits in. My best idea is that maybe the monkians are split like the cats were with the tigers, and there could be many monkians who are raiders and barbarians. Regardless Addicus himself does seem a tiny bit more honorable than the other generals Mumm-Ra, so that aspect of monkian culture has a little establishment. He seems to be a little smarter too. I imagine monkians take being dishonored as a serious offense. it also works with my idea of Snow-Hachiman (who I may call Hachi the Snow Monkian), who is basically an Ice Samurai Ape.

Perhaps if the monkians are rather civilized, their animosity with the birds could be more of a rivalry than just one side dominating the other. I would think the birds at one time tried to take advantage of the monkians though, in a way that’s reminiscent of Western Nations that tried to exploit Asian countries in the past.

Also, I just saw this episode of Familiar Faces by Chad Rocco on the Animalympics cartoon. In it he goes a little in depth on creating animal characters, or “furries” and I think he makes some good points, so it’s worth checking out: http://blip.tv/familiar-faces/familiar-faces-69-animalympics-6311477

I was looking at Thai architecture http://www.google.com/search?q=thailand+architecture&hl=en&complete=0&site=webhp&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=a5syULDFHqSGjAL44oCYBQ&ved=0CFoQsAQ&biw=1440&bih=669 and as someone who plays a lot of Assassin’s Creed I noticed a lot of buildings would be totally fun to climb. So I thought, what if the Monkians design their buildings so they can climb along the outside of them? No stairs on the inside, just handholds leading up and down the outside of the structure.

That sounds similar to the caste system from “Planet of the Apes”.

I agree Will and I’d love to hear one of the rabbits say “hraka”.

The statues of which type of ape is superior was from planet of the apes but the positions, if you are familiar with Chinese history, are derived from the Caste System of Imperial China.

I thought of an OC organization. Deep within the mountains of Third-Earth, lies the Praetorian; an organization of humans hellbent on reclaiming Third-Earth from the non-humans, or “subhumans” as they call them, and rebuild human civilization.

i agree with all of this! seeing a division/differentiation between the barbaric and less barbaric primates would be interesting. it would also be great to see a rule about sentencing a primate to live in exile, or never to return, as one of the harsh punishments of dishonor.

maybe you could have those failed treaties between the birds and the primates as a result of either side violating their agreements.

this is also a great idea. structures built just for climbing

Hm…this idea…gives me an idea. Do you think with all this we all could introduce the Warrior Maidens? Captain Cracka had an interesting theory about how the Warrior Maidens are made that I am wondering if we can use that idea or not. But yeah, I’m being hypocritical and we need to stick to our own creativity. If I had my theory, I would go about thinking about how the aliens from Namek on DBZ reproduced, such as how Piccolo was made-asexually. Though the egg thing might be a bit much. So any other ideas will be good if you guys like the idea of introducing Monkians and somehow the Warrior Maidens.

I have an idea that introduces the Primates and the Warrior Maidens but it also introduces Mongor, as well.

As the ThunderCats are traveling in the Thundertank, now rebuilt, to find the fourth stone, they travel into the ruins of an abandoned city (New York) from an ancient civilization that had existed before Mumm-Ra came to Third-Earth and longer than the other civilizations. While making a stop in what use to be central park, the Wilys left the group on their boards to explore their surrounding. Far away from the other ThunderCats, the Wilys discover a cathedral that has been left untouched by time. Curious of how it is left untouched, the Wilys enter the cathedral and see a giant slab with marking on it. They opened it, thinking there might be treasure but what came out was a nightmare that should’ve been kept dormant. out of the slab was a demon with the appearance of a goat but with the wings of a bat, carrying a long scythe, shouting “At last! After centuries of imprisonment, I, Mongor, am free to lay waste on this planet, once again!”. Scared the Wilys hopped back on their boards and ran back to the others while the demon, Mongor, begins ravishing the places around him. The Wilys explained to Lion-O and the other ThunderCats what they had done and what they saw. Though Tygra, being a cynic to the supernatural, corrected them by saying to the others, “Don’t jump to conclusions. How do we know if it was a demon? They could have just imagined it.”

Wilykit exclaimed to Tygra, “We didn’t.” she turns to Lion-O and says, “You believe us, right?” The lion king nods his head and orders, “Let’s check it out.”

they arrive at the cathedral and sees the slab but no demon.

“I don’t see any demon, do you, bro?” smirked Tygra. The Wilys looked at the adults and shouted in unison, “You have to believe us!” Which Lion-O just patted their heads and said, “Don’t your imaginations fool you.” Cheetara looks around in the cathedral and goes, “What is this place?” Panthro responses with a, “Don’t know, don’t care.” he continues, “Let’s get back to camp before it gets too dark.” They return to the Thundertank and after they ate, they went to sleep.

Unbeknownst to them, they were being watched. one by one, they were abducted and taken to sort of forest outside of central park, probably another part of Manhattan. Lion-O was to first to wake up and when he did, he noticed he was tied up. confused, he wakes up the others who were also tied up. They were shocked at their situation but were more disturbed at who their captures were…a tribe of beautiful, yet fierce, women called the "Warrior Maidens, living in tree houses and using primitive weapons, such as spears. The Thundercats didn’t know what species they were. They weren’t cats, dogs, or lizards, just an unknown species to them. “I want to know why have you taken us?” in which he gets hit in the face with the back of a spear by the guard, shouting, “Silence!” Tygra shouts out, “Hey, he was just asking you a question!” he, too, gets hit in the face and is told to be silent. The ThunderCats are then taken to meet the queen, Willa who was even more beautiful than the other Warrior Maidens. She wasn’t happy because of an ancient demon that hasn’t seen the light of day for centuries was now on the loose and she blames them for its release. Lion-O starts shouting that he is unaware of any demon until he recalls the Wilys saying something about a demon. Next thing you know, Willa challenges Lion-O to a duel to the death in an arena. Lion-O wins but spares Willa, which causes some mix signals and as they feast, Willa grabs Lion-O right arm, pushing her beasts against it, and says, “Do not worry, beloved. Once we defeat the demon,we will be wed in front of its corpse.” Which Lion-O exclaims in a surprised look, “…Whiskers.”

I wanted to help with this. Covers or Character designs or something…

But I’m honestly starting to feel like there’s going to be too many people trying to write it. Who’s going to decide what ideas stay and what ideas go? Cause you can’t just implement everyone’s ideas and have a coherent story. And combining two OS characters into one? Just… No. Sorry.

Everything is sounding too “fan-fictiony” and it’s starting to look too over-complicated and convoluted to me. People are coming up with little details without anyone worrying about the actual over-arching story. Come up with the plot first, and then come up with little details as you need them. Otherwise you’re just going to end up trying to cram every idea into the story.

It’s like an old Editor’s trick. If you put a scene or detail into the story that doesn’t progress the plot, then cut that part out. Because it isn’t needed.

Anyway I don’t mean to sound disrespectful or to insult anyone. But I’m Just explaining my feelings on the matter.

i’m glad you voiced your concerns and i didn’t consider anything you said to be disrespectful either. the sketch of liono and tygra i did was just for experimenting and the changes will not be used for the actual fan comic. i think the writers are still in the stage of figuring every thing out and i’m sure they will come to an understanding soon. i really wish you would be apart of this because i have seen your work on deviantart, and you got skills that could really help us.

@Balgus82 Woah there, partner! Hold your horses. We just came up with this idea-what-like 3 or 4 weeks ago? Be patient. We’re more than likely gonna edit, revise, and cut stuff out in the end. This type of stuff takes time. Last time I checked, it was like four, I believe. That’s my two cents. Take it up with hammy and GoldLion.

Edit: You have to keep in mind, we are FANS. We are not professionals and we don’t have a whole lot of experience in how to do all this. Yes, you are right about the “big picture” thing, but we need to set something up around that so we can work on it.

Which by the way, did we say we are going to send the animals home? Because I think that defeats the whole pupose of the prophecy about Lion-o uniting the animals.

I have to agree with Balgus with the “Too fanfiction-y” thing. It seems the further we’re getting into it, the more people ate trying to focus on making the landscapes and caste systems than actually making a good plot. I know not all of my ideas are incredible, but I have been working on making a story that fits with the writing of the show. I think if we overrun this comic with too many OC’s or side missions it won’t be very good. I would definitely like to keep the writing down to maybe 2 or 3 people. I’m sorry if anyone has to be cut but that’s just how it will be.

Well, I wouldn’t care if I was cut. Will and kman knows what they’re doing than I do. I’m not saying this to belittle myself. It’s just the truth.

I agree with balgus on most points, but at this stage none of us can really come up with solid plot progression until he hear from the original crew. Little details are almost all we can do right now. Once we know how the plot would have progressed, then we can make adjustments to our details and plan accordingly. I keep having to say this, but the REAL work hasn’t started yet, we’re just brainstorming until the time comes.

As for combining two characters, I only wanted to do this as a way to include two characters from the OS that could work. It has worked in other series and reboots before. In my opinion, Hachiman really does not fit into this world of the new series, but I really liked his character, so I want some way to work him in without it being too weird. Snow Man had some similarities to Hachiman, most noticeably the voice acting, and I don’t think it would be wrong to combine elements from both characters to create a new one that pays homage to them both.

And as for multiple writers, the series wasn’t the vision of just one person either. Multiple people created it, wrote it, and shared ideas. We can do that do, with proper discussion and compromises. None of us owns ThunderCats, and that’s why I didn’t decide to just do this by myself. I wanted there to be input from several fans so we could create something everyone could enjoy. I ware that disagreements will happen, inevitably, but we can work through those and find solutions that work.

I really would like you to be on board with us balgus, even if only to check and balance us if we go a little too far.

I’m mean I’m just saying like… is there going to be a head writer? Or an editor? Someone there to focus the group, but at the same time make sure everyone’s ideas are heard (even if they aren’t all used)?

As for Hachiman. I could see him working, but just not as a human (because I kinda like the whole “no humans” rule that seemed to be in place during the series). He could easily be someone from that Swordsman village or an old friend (or teacher or student) of Hattanzo’s. He doesn’t have to be human. He can be a species similar to the Duelist or the Wood Forgers. You know; almost-human (like these characters that were cut http://dannortonart.deviantart.com/art/Father-and-Son-297321228 ). But I agree he and the Snowman were similar in personality. But couldn’t we just think of ways to differentiate them? I mean everyone doesn’t have to have the same exact personality or look as they did in the OS as long as they’re still clearly recognizable.

You most likely won’t be.

I don’t want to volunteer myself, but I would like to be the head writer. Gold Lion and I really are the creators of the idea so he’ll have a major part too.

I would wanna help with the writing as well as i’ve just published my own book. Does not say much but at least i’m not a “noob” at it.

Yeah, you’re definitely on too.

See, I wouldn’t be against doing that. That could definitely work, just making Hachiman one of those alien species. At the same time, I do have this sort of vision of what I think Snow Man would be like with Hachiman’s traits, and making them one character could potentially save on story time by having one less side character to deal with. But I promised myself that I would consider every idea, and when we have more details on season 2 I’ll see what works best. Nothing is finalized.

As for writing duties, I suppose hammy and I have been the ones to get this going. I didn’t want to be selfish and just put myself in charge as a head writer or story editor, but I’ll do it if it’s okay with everyone. But while hammy and I may be head writers, we’ll of course have other writers who do the actual scripts for each issue.
