And in his defense, while it might have been arrogant, I think more that he was eager to see his friends he hasn’t seen for too long because they left him alone in the Tower of Omens.

Yeaah I seem to remember a lot of boneheaded Lion-O moments for sure.
That and the Thunderkittens being kidnapped or conned in about every other episode.

I always thought the way he could control fire once it was ignited was one pretty cool power.
I want him developing his mind power as well.
It is a big difference in his character. In the OS he was humble, which could have also come from his age, that he was older in that show leaning towards him having more wisdom from life experiences. The new Tygra is not humble at all, full of pride. Just like Lion-O. In the OS, Lion-O always battled with his pride.
He deserved what?
That’s a really good analysis. 
That’s what I’ve been thinking about his character and it makes me a little made. Tygra really needs more respect than that and it’s clear he has a lot of fans.
Don’t think they’d do that. I think Panthro would knock some sense into them if they tried that stunt.

Your comment just gave me another thought. Since he would have to have an almost empathic ability to be able to do what he did to Lion-O in the Anointment Trials in the OS, that could be used to explain why he is so good with people in the new series. He’s the Thunderians hero, everyone loves him. If he has some empathic ability, he can use that to win friends and loyalty becuase it would guide him in relating with people.
I am imaging that Tygra is really a very sensitive guy full of insecurities. He projects his insecurities onto Lion-O by lecturing him because if he can look down upon Lion-O, then he can feel better about himself. But when Lion-O rises up and become the kind of ThunderCat Tygra has to respect, I could see Tygra’s own insecurities flooding back and consuming him.
The show probably wouldn’t do that, but if this were real life, I could see that.

CoT, your analysis in the final part of your post, where you estate the new Tygra being empathic and good with people so he could win friends here and there, seems to fit the character well Of course, in order to get that, producers would have to give him some kind of role in the series, not just stand there next to Lion-o.
I think while in the OS Tygra wasn’t precisely sociable, he was with the Warrior Maidens (although Lion-o met them first, some of their main appearences were almost related to Tygra), and he also had a link with the mole people (I don’t remember any other TC treating with them). I think in the OS he was a sympathetic guy, but intoverted and kind of a loner, so it was hard for him to bond with others (he even seemed to have some limitations interacting with his fellow TCs lol… except for Cheetara, he was with her a lot), but when he got to feel comfortable with people, he bond well (like the Warrior Maidens).
Honestly, it’s not like you saw Tygra going to the berbil village, or Hook Mountain, or any other place. He usually preferred to stay in Cats Lair, go in space exploration missions with the kittens, or get outside by his own either exploring or making some research (that’s why he was usually alone when getting into trouble: “Fireballs of Plun-Darr”, “Garden of Delights”, “Superpower Potion”, etc. :D). I used to think that besides the TCs, Willa and Nayda were his best friends on Third Earth.
And I agree in that he deserves some respect. Tygra is like the Thundercats Aquaman, mocked because of being misunderstood when it comes to his personality and not valued when it comes to his powers and abilities… heck! He even is orange like Aquaman’s shirt lol (Aquaman happens to be my favorite DC superhero ;)). Although I’d think of him like a mixture of Aquaman and Batman (becuase of the brains).
It’s similar to his suit in the old series, wit one sleeve only over the left shoulder, with a lower yellow border. His clothes (before the green armor) was similar to his clothes in the OS, with the crossed chest and all that
I loved Aqua Man as a kid. I remember him being my favorite.
Tygra was more of a loner and seemed to prefer to socialize with women more than men. Guess he was the ladies man. Tygra’s personality strikes me as being one to enjoy the company of women more than other men.
I think people here are misunderstanding the word “empath.”
An empath would acutally feel someone else’s fear, not know what the fear is of.
What you guys are thinking would be closer to a telepath.

My thought was that if Tygra has empathic abilities, he would feel what they were feeling and be able to then respond to them in a way he knew would make them feel better, hence causing them to like him. For example, if he knew I was feeling sad, then giving me an encouraging word or a hug would brighten my day and cause me to like him more.
Me too. I think that’s what raised the rumors of him being gay in the OS.
Although in the first eps he seemed to be close to Pantrho as well. I think that was because he found it hardly to socialize. He knew Pantrho and Cheetara for a long time, so he felt comfortable around them. Then Lion-o and the kittens came to his world, and he grew to feel comfortable around tehm as well. But he wasn’t the kind of guy he goes by here and there making freinds easily.
But yes,I also had the impression he felt more comfortable with around Cheetara or the WM, maybe becasue Panthro started feeling more comfortable with Lion-O? Seriously, I used to think Panthro had a crush on Lion-o 
Also how else would Tygra know what buttons to push when he employs his mind tricks on his enemies. Loved the stealth invisibility rogue aspect of Tygra also.

I meant to say he was closer in age to Panthro and Cheetara, making it easy for him to interact with them. Lion-o and the kittens were kids when the fled Thundera, and given Tygra (apparently lack of) social skills, I doubted he knew how to relate good with kids. But once in Third Earth, he had no choice because of all the time they spent together.

I always got the impression Lion-O had more of a thing for Willa. Tygra and Nayda did spend time being invisible together. I want to think they had other interactions as well but I’m not entirely certain.
Empathic vs. Telepathic powers - I’m too much of a B5 fan. In that universe a empath was just down the power scale a little. But yeah, you could make very good arguments Tygra really is a telepath instead.
The funny thing was I always thought Tygra’s mind powers explained a lot about his more reserved personality in the OS.
Tygra was all about control and control all the time. Think of what he could have done lashing out in anger with his powers? Someone could have been insane and drooling. We saw in Lion-o’s trial it wasn’t about raw power for him. It was about putting that genie back in the bottle once his power were pulled out. What seemed to really drain him was reining them in. Add in (another fan wave I know) I always thought that being around people must have been very noisy and exhausting for him-- information overload per say. So he tended to be more reserved and keep his distance.

Interesting thoughts, and I agree. Never thought that what drained him wasn’t actually the using the power, but controlling it again. And yes, that might be why he’s kind of a loner; other people’s emotions might have felt like a burden for him if he decided to “open” too much around them, adn maybe he wouldn’t be able to control his own emotions.
I don’t know where some TC sites get this from, but some estate that Tygra didn’t like to use his mind powers because he didn’t like playing with other people’s minds as he considered that wrong and dangerous. Talking about control, responsability and integrity
I actually agree with that.
Tygra was the one that tended to lecture Lion-o about how with great power came great responsiblity. And seeing what he had in his arsenal to pull out-- those were not token words on Tygra’s part.
One thing about the OS is we never saw Tygra trained or struggle with any of those questions. In the OS Tygra was in his 30’s and a master of his powers. I am kind of hoping in the new series we will see Tygra learning and struggling to master them.
