I didn’t see a thread for posting theories and hypothesis regarding the new series. So here’s a thread where we can speculate on things before the show begins.
Cats Lair
I’m curious about this. We see Cats Lair existed in Thundera before the Mutant attack. In the original series, Cats Lair was key, it was the ThunderCats base of operation as well as their home on Third Earth. We understand that the ThunderCats will be scattered when the Mutants invade. I’m wondering if we’ll see them build a new Cats Lair somewhere or if that won’t exist at all, if the ThunderCats will remain homeless through the show and be living on the run and in hiding where they can. Since if they were defeated on Third Earth by Mutants, I doubt they would have time to build anything like Cats Lair without the Mutants interrupting it. We know that they’ll have vehicles, I’m just wondering where they might call home if anywhere.
I wonder why they chose to do it that way though. I think for the few episodes after Thundera falls, the cats will be on the run, until they meet Panthro, who is probably living in the Tower of Omens.
My guess is that the tower wasn’t built by any of them, but is a ruin from the past that Panthro fortified
I like that theory. I was actually toying with a similar thought. I was thinking of it being some ancient Thunderian outpost and stronghold. That’s the only way I think I could find any coolness factor in them calling the Tower of Omens home because I never thought the Tower was as cool as Cats Lair in the original series. But if there is a history with the structure, that would make it cool. I just can’t imagine how they would make it so fortified against the Mutants. Seriously. A dinky tower? :eek:
Look how easy it was for Mumm-Ra:mummra: to get into the Cats Lair in the original… And Tygra:tygra: designed it and Panthro:panthrohappy: fortified it. Hmm… :eek:
Here’s a theory - Tygra and the Thunderkittens are related. They all have the same hair shape! (Even Kit who in the images released today shows that she pulls it back into a ponytail but would otherwise have the same hairstyle.)
That’s interesting, though perhaps it has more to do with the kittens having thicker hair that hides their ears. It’s more similar to the ThunderCats in original series whose ears never were seen unless they were bald.
I was thinking a way they might possibly be related - say Tygra has an uncle or aunt who married someone of the lower class who have tails, thus producing the kittens. Perhaps the kittens are half noblility but having tails, nobles would reject them. Aside from having the same hair shape as Tygra, they also have stipes in their hair. Very different from Tygra’s of course, but again, if someone of Tygra’s blood married someone from the lower class, they wouldn’t look like a tiger necessarily.
They probably aren’t. Would make an interesting twist though.
I was just wondering.. In that Trailer…Jaga is seen to engage a battle with mummra.. I wonder if mummra will take him out…?? After a few bouts with Grune of course..
But really what I’m most interested is in Mumm-Ra’s backstory, we never got that in the old show. The only thing we knew for sure was that he was an Egyptian priest.
I actually like the theory of him being an ex-Thundercat. Also, the second part of Thunder Thursday stated that his pyramid would be explored in more detail.
There’s no way to have a Jaga vs Grune battle in this series. Here’s why:
#1 Grune could just sit on Jaga to win (Jaga is too frail for a physical hand-to-hand fight) #2 Grune is still seen as a good guy when the Mutants attack #3 The Mutant attack destroys ThunDera
Now maybe there will be a Claudus vs Grune battle…
Grune even has the dark mane, lol. And instead of hyenas there will be reptillians. Yeah, I think Scar will kill Mufasa, er you know what I mean. :rolleyes:
Seriously though, there’s too great of an age difference between Jaga and Grune to have an interesting fight. But Grune and Claudus look to be closer in age and physical fitness.
remember guys this is anime. sorta anyway. Skinny guys can be the most skillfull fighters in anime. Remember in that interview they said Jaga heads the Clerics. The elite fighters of Thundera. So he’s gotta be an awesome fighter if he leads the best fighters in the kingdom. plus this version of Jaga has his magic thing going for him.
To compare Grune and Claudus to The Lion King would imply that Grune and Claudus are brothers. That would be interesting.
Claudus - Lord of Thundera - The Lion King’s Mufasa
Grune - Claudus’s younger brother, The Lion King’s Scar
Lion-O - Son and Heir to the Throne - the Lion King’s Simba
Jaga - the wise counsel to the Lord - The Lion King’s baboon
If they in any way resemble The Lion King, Grune, the younger and resentful brother, rallies the lizard people to help him take out Claudus and Lion-O, promising them a better life once he’s been made Lord of the ThunderCats. Similar to Scar and the hyenas.
What would be interesting is if in the fall of Thundera, while Lion-O and his friends flee, if Grune comes in and establishes his throne and rules mercilessly over what Thunderians are left. Lion-O, out in the wide world, must battle Mutants and Mumm-Ra but he finally defeats Mumm-Ra and then has to return to battle Grune.
