I don’t think they will make Grune and Clawdus brothers in rivalry, because that plot’s already taken by Tygra and Lion-O. Unless they want to show both sides of it: one person who is jealous of his brother and betrays (and kills him?), and on the other hand, a person who is also jealous of his brother, but still cares about him, helps him and loves him and finally redeems himself.
I do think though that Clawdus will fight Grune and eventually get killed by him.
I’m curious about the other mutants. I want to see their designs so badly! lol
Slithe and Mumm-ra have very similar designs to their RB selves so I wonder if Monkian, Jackalman, and Vultureman will be similar as well (though hopefully all of them wont have the furry underwear.)
I wonder about their names too. It makes sense that they’ll have their own names now (though I worry about what those names will be.)
Also Vultureman: wings? or wingless? Personally I’m hoping that his race of vultureman mutants will have wings, but his are broken or damaged somehow (giving him the incentive, like in the original, to make his flying machine.)
And since it’s premiering in July…Think the first season will be on DVD in time for Christmas? I’d really like to get my nephew (and, I admit, myself) the season boxed set since he doesn’t have cable. And if the Thundercats people happen to read this: Please, PLEASE throw some behind the scenes stuff on the dvds? pwetty pwease?
I theorize that Claudus actually favors Tygra and would rather Tygra become Lord of the ThunderCats if their laws did not require Lion-O to assume the throne. Just watching the scene where Lion-O takes hold of the sword, when Claudus comes to say he’s going to show Lion-O what it’s capable of, he snatches it away rather harsly from Lion-O, Tygra smiles at this, then the anger felt when he goes after Lion-O, all that scene gave me the impression he feels Tygra would make a better Lord of the ThunderCats. I would expect that many of Lion-O’s ideals to better their society come from Jaga and not from Claudus. I think Tygra’s beliefs and ideals match up with Claudus.
That’s an interesting theory. I kinda felt like Claudus was a little too aggressive in that scene too. But it could just be tough love. Like “I’m harder on you because I expect more from you.”
It could be just tough love. It would add an interesting dynamic to Lion-O though if he had the drama of not measuring up to his father’s expectations.
It’s too repetitive. I mean, the idea of the king wanting one of his sons to succeed him but has to accept that he’ll not and is his other son, the not-so-favored one, the one who will, and only a few see the potential in the true heir (like LotR, Game of Thrones, and so many others).
I mean (and yes, I’m biased as I’m a Tygra fan), Tygra is already a jealous guy, destinated to lose the throne and maybe the girl; does he really need to be an arrogant smartass favored by his father, but not by Jaga? I can picture Jaga, the wisest adn probably more respected Thunderian, telling Lion-O that his brother thinks too much of himself but is not worthy of the throne, and that he has something tygra doesn’t, and all that. I want Tygra to have some credit for himself in this show.
Why not the other way round? That because of Tygra being adopted and Lion-O a blood-related son, Clawdus always preferred Lion-O and made Tygra feel rejected? That’d increase and justify Tygra’s resentment, and not make him just a jealous guy out of nothing. And I say “out of nothing” because, being adopted, he should know he has no right to the throne, and must be grateful for all what was given to him instead.
I’d have liked this idea: Clawdus and his wife adopted Tygra becuase she wanted it. Possibilities are a lot:
a) maybe she was unsuccessfully trying to have a baby, and decided to adopt a boy, and that brought so much joy to her that she relaxed and was able to concieve herself (I’ve seen this happening, so it wouldn’t be far-fetched).
b) Tygra’s parents saved her life (not Clawdus’), and died doing so, so she decided to raise up their kid as hers.
c) Baby Tygra was left at the doors of Cats Lair, and Clawdus didn’t want to keep him, but his wife took pity on the baby and decided to keep him.
Anyway, in all these scenarios, Clawdus never liked Tygra and turned all his attention to Lion-O, his son and heir, even when Tygra tried hard to please him and make him proud, and when Clawdus’s wife died, he neglected the boy, so he grew up resented and jealous.
I mean, I want jealous to be justified, not just them to be there.
No, I don’t see it quite like that. If Claudus neglected Tygra then he’d KNOW he wasn’t going to be king at a very early age. And he obviously still kinda likes Lion-O. He backed him up so he can’t be completely resentful of Lion-O or he would’ve walked away.
I think they would be pretty much raised as equals. I heard absolutely no sarcasm when he called Lion-O “little brother.” He really thinks of Lion-O as his brother and if he was neglected he probably wouldn’t. So I think he would’ve been raised as part of the family. My theory is that Tygra just inwardly thinks that since he’s better than Lion-O at pretty much everything that he would be a better King as well. Some of it might not be plain petty jealousy. Some of it could be that he is frustrated because he genuinely thinks he’d be a better leader for their people.
Btw what “true heir” are you talking about in Game of Thrones? The true heir was Viserys and he was pretty much the most unworthy person there was.
I also don’t see it like that. In one or both of the previews that came out, we saw the throne room where Claudus was seated on his throne, Jaga was sitting to his left and Tygra was sitting to his right. There is typically a lot of symbolism with that. Tygra is seated to his right, that is a very high honor. It is clear that Claudus thinks a great deal of Tygra.
I don’t know what “ture heir” this relates to in Lord of the Rings. The closest thing I can think of is Denthor and his two sons, however, Denethor favored Boromir who was going to succeed him and did not favor the younger brother Faramir who was not going to succeed him. It’s not the same thing as this.
Your c) scenario, why not have his mother place him in a basket in a river and have it float to Claudus’s wife? And your a) scenario sounds a lot like LOTR with Aragorn’s mother having sought refuge with the elves but dying.
I know it’s not like that. I just said I’d have liked it to be that way.
About Game of Thornes, the true heir was Daeneris, as she proved to be the next dragon (she didn’t get burn), but everybody thought it would have been Viserys… I was also thinking of the Lannisters, how the father preferred Jamie over Tyrion, even when the latter proved to be “better”.
In LotR, Denethor favored Boromir all the time because of being the bravest and biggest TO HIS EYES, but he didn’t see how much Faramir could do, and only a few did (like Gandalf… I’m referring to the books here, not the movies, which left all this out). In the books, it was statyed that the royal blood run through Faramir’s veins, not Boromir’s. But it is what I’m talking about, I don’t want Tygra to become the favored of a king who only values strenght or agility over noblity, I’d like Tygra to have some “virtues” himself, and being acknowledged by those as well.
Perhas Tygra learns virtues through the course of the show. I like the idea of that. I like his the idea of his character having more complexity. Here’s my thought…
He was raised as a prince of Thundera. He views his people as the superior race over all other species on Third Earth. These are beliefs his father Claudus instilled in him which seems to be the case in what we hear Claudus say to Lion-O as they sword battle. Claudus believes that he has to rule over all other species with an iron claw and Tygra has adopted this belief. But Lion-O has been listening to wise Jaga and feels differently. Tygra doesn’t understand this and sees it as a weakness in Lion-O, thus making him feel even more that Lion-O isn’t strong enough to be Lord of the ThunderCats and that it should be him.
When they go out together into the wider world of Thundera, they find themselves interacting with a lot more species than either of them ever had in Thundera. Slowly, Tygra’s opinions about them changes. He starts to see that they are not barbarians who need to be firmly ruled over and perhaps they teach him a thing or two about kindness and compassion.
So then we see Tygra begin to struggle over the beliefs he was raised with and his experiences contradicting those beliefs.
It’s not that Tygra had no virtues to start with. He has virtues. But he also has his father’s beliefs which are flawed.
I get your point and share it, even when it’s hard to see can see that from my posts
What I meant to say, is that I want Tygra tio bring something over the table himself. That’s it’s not all about learning for him, but that he could teach Lion-O somehting as well, other than being a great warrior and all that. I know he will (or I hope so). It just seems to me they’re not portraying him as wise (not in the Jaga sense of way) or noble enough.
I think the tygra/lyon-o rivalry is just rather playful. I can see it in Tygra’s eyes/face that he loves lion-o very much. Now it’s possible that i dream this or it is just brilliant animation.
I like the new tygra, very confident, something he lacked in the old show.
So do we all assume that Claudus and Jaga will die during the lizards attack?
I don’t know if that will happen or not in this series. They seem to be setting it up where Tygra and Lion-0 are more peers and Tygra is not wiser than Lion-O. I imagine Panthro won’t be wiser either. I get the impression that Panthro is going to be rather bitter in this series and only interested in anhiliating his enemies. Perhaps Panthro’s journey will be to learn compassion and forgiveness. Considering Cheetara is in Jaga’s whatever it’s called, she’ll probably end up being the wisest of all of them.
CoT, didn’t Jaga say it was the Eye of Thundera that would chose who the king would be? I thought I saw a clip with him saying something to the effect that Lion-O was heridetary Lord of the Thundercats but it was the Eye of Thundera that would know if Lion-O was a true king.
Man, I seriously need to spell check and re-read my posts before I hit send.
Tygra seems to revel in being better than Lion-O at most things, and seems to like taking control of a sitatution to show Lion-O how it should be done. Basic sibiling dynamics going on there.
I think Tygra is actually quite arrogant about his assumed superiority over Lion-O. As for giving Lion-O a hard time ? That’s probably his frustration and jealousy coming through at not being heir to throne, but he appears to step in when Lion-O needs his help so there is a bond of brotherhood there. Basically you’ve got an opening for MumRa to stir up trouble between the brothers. One desires power and the other has it thrust upon him before he is ready for it.
I think what you have here is Tygra showing the Pride and Arrogance of Thunderia while Lion-O represents the just side of Thunderia.
As for Jaga, I think he will have been a mentor of sorts to Lion-O in an off hand way. Giving him encouragement where needed and so on in subtle ways. I’m guessing Jaga will be the one reading all the signs of MumRa’s looming return, while everybody else ignores them. Pride before the fall etc.
Btw what “true heir” are you talking about in Game of Thrones? The true heir was Viserys and he was pretty much the most unworthy person there was.
True heir wise in A Song of Ice and Fire ? It’s Daenerys Targaryen, her brother was a mere pretender full of pride, arrogance and spite (which cost him his life in the end). Qualities that make a tyrant. Daenerys is the complete opposite of that.
Exactly. That’s what I was saying. I don’t want to see Tygra = Viserys adn Lion-O = Daeneris.
Also, if Clawdus knew Lion-O was the heir, and he thought Jaga would take the best out of him, why not sending Tygra with Jaga as well? Not necessarily to become the ruler, but to learn wisdom and generosity.
I think Jaga may have tried to instill wisdom in both boys, but ultimately each chooses their own path. It could be that Lion-O felt more respect towards Jaga and Tygra more respect towards Claudus.
Tygra also would likely feel he has more to prove being the adopted son of a king. He would likely feel the need to prove himself worthy of being Claudus’s son and thus would have worked harder whereas Lion-O might have been more lax about it because he is a natural born son and automatic heir. He would not have pushed himself as hard, probably, as Tygra. Tygra also has some years on Lion-O so it stands to reason he would be more powerful than Lion-O because he’s had more time to work at it.
What Jaga says is, “While you will one day wear the crown Lion-O, only the Eye of Thundera, the source of our power, knows if there is indeed a king inside of you.”
He’s got the crown either way, but the only the sword knows if he’s worthy of it. Which, btw, also means that Claudus isn’t going to be some hateful guy either. He’s still worthy of the sword too.
From the first Thunder Thursdays interview: “Panthro used to be a general in the king’s army in Thundera. So he’s the one always shaking his head when Lion-O wants to do something stupid on the military front.”
So, to me, that sounds like Panthro is going to be the experienced older guy who gets exasperated and annoyed at the younger members of the group. But that doesn’t mean he’s bitter and violent and only cares about beating the enemy.
That could indicate that the more worthy Lion-O is of the sword, the more the sword will do for him and the more power he can wield from it. I could see him just barely winning or escaping in his first encounter with Mumm-Ra because he has not yet learned to wield the full power of the sword.
Maybe. He seems bitter to me in all the images I’ve seen of him. Hopefully he’s not. I liked the old Panthro’s personality.
