Regarding the question about the red insignina. Many people say in the OS it was reserved for the TCs, not the commoners, and base it in the fact that Lynx-o, Pumyra and Benagli never had it until Lion-o turned them into TCs.

BUT, don’t forget in the first episode, “Exodus”, the TCs (Panthro, Tygra, Cheetara and the kittens) were nude, so they weren’t carrying the insignia until Jaga gave them their clothes and weapons (I think Jaga did have it already, would have to check that).

Maybe they didn’t need the insignia in Thundera, but Jaga gave it to them along with their clothes to idntify themselves and be identified in the universe/space/wherever they ship would have taken them to as TCs, and also to create a group spirit among them, something that joined them together and reminded them they were a team overall.

I think that was one of the biggest plot mistakes in the OS. That the TCs were initally nude, but Lynx-o, Pumyra and Benagli were already dressed when the were rescued from Thudera by the berbils, and also that when Lion-o travelled in time and space back to Thudnera before it was dstroyed, the guards also wore clothes. Jaga espcifically told the TCs in the ship something like “while you didn’t need clothes in Thundera, I don’t know what dangers you are going to face in your new home”, indicating he was giving them the clothes only to procure their safety.

Old Friends: The team search for Thundrillium and learn more about Panthro and Grune’s past.

Journey to the Tower of Omens: The Cats look for the Book of Omens and navigate a dangerous labyrinth.

I doubt that simply because of the tails. The twins are a different kinda Thunderian. On top of the tails they’re the only ones without visible ears.

I’m glad you brought up the subject of tails! I was beginning to wonder.. do they just fall off at some point? Cut them off in a coming of age ritual?

I recall reading that it’s that not all cats have the tails, and the ones that do were of lower class and social standing in their society. That would fit in with them being beggar street urchins in the beginning of the series.

I always thought that was odd too. I just assumed that only nobles didn’t wear clothing. Then again Jaga had clothes on as did claudus is the time capsule episode. Who knows I guess it was never really thought-out. I’m just glad the new series didn’t have them naked to start out w/.

I think it’d be neat to see an episode deal with the dangers of drugs when one of the ThunderCats gets hold of some and begins acting out of character. The drug that affects him or her - catnip of course!

I bet you’re right. I’m just waiting for the first episode to come along that messes with Tygra’s mind.

So here’s a theory…

Tygra thinks he’s the better candidate than Lion-O to be Lord of the ThunderCats. He things he’s stronger and faster and has better leadership quality - better with people, better leading, better at making judgments. So what’s going to get Tygra to change his tune on this?

A dose of humility.

In the OS, there were episodes in which Tygra’s mind was easily influenced, namely the two episodes you mentioned. There was also the episode where only he was enticed by the vampire mermaid. But also in Mossland Monster, he willfully made a bad choice against Lion-O’s and Panthro’s advice. I think there’s a good chance that they’ll use this with Tygra in the new series. He falls to some kind of mind control, perhaps he ends up pitted against the ThunderCats. When he comes to his senses, realizing he has this weakness, he feels he isn’t strong enough for Lion-O’s position.

Just a thought.

I like that theory an think it’s very possible to happen. I mean, that’s the last this show needs to finish turning him into a complete pr*ck…, to be a an arrogant who is humbled by being embarassed in front of the whole team

Tygra’s druglike addiction to the Silky fruit springs to mind. That episode was unintentionally funny.

I guess that’s the difference with the OS Tygra. He was humble then, and even when he made some bad choices and decissions in “Mossland Monster”, and was influenced and mind-controled in “Garden of Delights”, “Crystal Canyon” (aka “The Keystone”) and “Turmagar the Tuska” (by that mermaid vampire), he was always humble and upright, and usually the prudent one, and you got to feel sympathy for him when those things happeneed to him.

Now people are waiting for those things to happen to him to turn him into a humble being, and will say “finally, he deserved it for so long”.

I feel sympathy for the new Tygra though; he’s an adopted orphan who was always reminded of his origins (maybe not directly by others mentioning it, but unlike some adopted kids that are raised like equals to their siblings and differences tend to fade away, he was remembered every day that he can not be king because he wasn’t in line, because he was adopted… he could never take that out of his mind, as much as he came in terms with that fact), he has lost so much, was betrayed by his hero, his younger brother got the Napoleon complex and he has to follow his orders just because he’s the king, he might lose the girl he likes to that same kid, etc… and overall, people want him to get intoxicated, mind-controled, etc. Poor guy.

So the old Tygra gets the hate for being a “lame” (not for me), smart, humble, upright and not much of a fighter (again, not for me) scientist and architect, and the new one gets it for being exactly the opposite. How ironic, right? The poor guy just can’t win, can he?

Here’s another theory regarding my favorite TC. We’ve been talking about the love triangle with Cheetara; we’ve been also been talking aabout Tygra being taught to follow rules from authority, maybe without questioning them (first with Claudus and now with Lion-O). What if Cheetara and Tygra fall in love, but Lion-o falls for Cheetara too but his feelings are not returned because she loves Tygra, but Tygra has to give up on her simply because his brother, the king, has chosen her. And she, being obedient either, feels she can’t go against the king’s will. How about that? Two lovers separated by a kid’s whim.

I really do like the new Lion-o/Tygra sibling rivalry dynamic they got going on. Tygra was always like big brother in the old series and he’s definitely got more take charge attitude in this series.

That being said Tygra’s mind powers on the old show were pretty cool and I always dug him for that.

I’m going to sound like a complete fan wave but I always thought that was the double edge of Tygra’s powers. To be able to sense and dig out people’s greatest fears and project them he has to be empathic on some level. I always figured that ablity left a hole in his armor that could be exploited.

I think all the TCs underestimated the mutants… maybe it was in their genes But you’re right, not too humble from the, (although I think Pantrho and Lion-o won the prize there).

By “humble” I meant to say Tygra was thankful, he apologized when necessary, he was prudent (so he not always overestimated his abilities) etc.

I was thinking beginning of the series where he under estimated the mutants and ended up strapped to the (I think it was called?) the four winds.

Very arrogant, bone-headed move not going in without back up or at least calling in to base to let everyone else know where you’re going. You know just in case the mission goes south and all.

So the stuff we’re seeing in the new series WAS there.
