Why does there have to be so much hate for these two? If people can be all for opposites attracting how come they don’t apply it to these two? (it’s a sad case of hypocrisy)
Besides, if Pumyra were to ever go rogue in the same way she did with Lion-O it won’t be because she’s working for Mumm-Ra - she’s clearly made the point that she’s above that kind of thing.
In other words, she’s too good for Mumm-Ra and knows being with Lion-O is the best thing.

In terms of personality and screen-time, she seems to put Pumyra Sr (As I like to call the OS Pumyra) to shame. Btw, d’ya happen to know the whole ‘Dogs of War’ story? Cos I need a full synopsis ASAP as backing content for a fanfic in the making.

It still works well with Google Translate, though typing a load of Spanish is exhausting. As soon as I find out if Hammerhand’s Revenge is set after this one (Again), I’ll start writing. [Spoiler]With the finale having aired, I realize that discussing Pumyra has become a rather, to put it lightly, touchy subject. Her betrayal and reveal has left us wondering how much of what we’ve seen is the real Pumyra, and how much is an act.
If the rest of you would help, I think we need to re-analyze all of Pumyra’s past actions, to try and figure out what’s what, see if we can tell where the signs were. I think there are three aspects of Pumyra to consider; her acting as the mole, her acting out of revenge, and her acting free of any negative influence. We need to figure out how much is an act, and how much is genuine.
Let’s start with the beginning. Pumyra was angry at Lion-O and wanted him dead. She would have acted this way even if she wasn’t under mind control, so I think discussing that is a bit of a moot point. Since Pumyra was meant to be a mole, it’s a safe bet that she wouldn’t have killed Lion-O regardless of how he reacted. I believe that Mumm-Ra knew Lion-O would not harm her.
So, Pumyra’s decision to join him I think is safe to call as her acting as the mole. I did find it odd how suddenly she just stopped beating him up; there wasn’t some kind of gradual build up to show that he was convincing her.
My belief is that Pumyra’s orders were 1.) Lead the Cats to Mount Plundarr so they could free the Sword of Pundarr from Jaga’s spell and deliver it to Mumm-Ra. 2.) Get Lion-O killed somehow and steal the Book of Omens, and if that didn’t work out, just let Mumm-Ra follow her to the next stone.
In Curse of Ratilla, Pumyra ends up getting Lion-O, Panthro, and herself caught when she goes to get revenge on the mouse Mordax. It seems she’s doing this out of revenge, but is it possible that she wanted to get caught, so that Lion-O might be killed by Ratar-O?
Birth of the Blades shows us Pumyra’s concern for the escaping slaves; however, this resulted in Mumm-Ra acquiring it anyway.
Recipe for Disaster, this is a hard one to figure out. I think Mumm-Ra really was just planning on killing all the cats, save for Pumyra of course. There’s a chance he may have done it to make Lion-O get closer to Pumyra, but it seems like a lot of work. i think he just wanted to kill them, and since that didn’t work he just fell on his backup plan of using Pumyra as a mole. However, in this episode we see Pumyra at her softest. She helps that little flying frog back into its nest after all. We also see her kiss Lion-O for the first time. But again, it could all have been just an act to make Lion-O trust her more.
Now we have her actions in “What Lies Above Part 1.” Pumyra is eager to get to that stone, and willing to send the city plummeting. This is when some fans started speculating that she might be evil. Something to consider; doesn’t she know that Mumm-Ra is going to come get it anyway? Does she plan to make the Cats steal the stone so that it’s easier for Mumm-Ra to take later? Seems like a bad idea since it would have just made Lion-O stronger.
Throughout these episodes, Pumyra shifts from being angry at Lion-O and being flirty, often suddenly. This is either her having inner turmoil, or her act slipping occasionally. She gets mad at him even after she seems to accept him. I noticed that when Pumyra does have her moment of acceptance, it always does feel a little sudden, or forced.
Here’s one theory I am proposing; Pumyra is not all there, she is a homunculus, not fully alive. She was angry at what she saw as a betrayal from Lion-O. The current Pumyra we’ve seen is fueled by her desire for revenge and by Mumm-Ra and the Spirits of Evil’s magic. This Pumyra is most likely not the real deal. She must know that Mumm-Ra destroyed her home, and there’s no way she would willingly call him master, much less kiss his hand.
She’s more of a vengeful spirit given a body, but not a whole person; it’s just her desire for revenge. This could possibly help explain the parts where she foes a little out of control. Pumyra’s rage makes her override Mumm-Ra’s commands, and he he has to zap her to keep her in control. It’s possible that if Mumm-Ra doesn’t use his magic on her for a while, he loses his hold; she becomes more like her old self, but because of the state she was in when she died, her rage tends to come out a lot, even when it could hurt Mumm-Ra’s plans.
I want to believe that at least some part of the Pumyra we saw was genuine. What I don’t believe is that Pumyra acted completely of her own free will, especially after all the supposed bonding she did with Lion-O. What he did should have been enough to prove to her or anyone else that he was not who she thought he was. Maybe subconsciously she acted in certain ways, like flirting to get on Lion-O’s good side. It’s just hard to tell.
Until we get a second season, there’s no clear answer to who Pumyra really is. Was it all an act? Is she being mind controlled, or is she truly a willing traitor obsessed with revenge? How much was the real deal? One thing is clear; we no longer know Pumyra the way we thought we did.
We need a second season guys. We need some answers, and I want Pumyra to be redeemed somehow. I know I haven’t posted in this thread before, but Pumyra became my favorite character next to Lion-O. I was glad to see them together, and this was a real punch in the gut. If Pumyra is just a puppet whose soul is being controlled by Mumm-Ra, I pray that Lion-O can somehow use the Spirit Stone to change her back to normal, to change her back to the Pumyra that we came to love before the big reveal. She was a hero in the old series, and I want her to stay a hero.[/Spoiler]
I agree. I think she has some good left in her. Some moments were to convincing for her to be faking it, no matter what evil is controlling her. I hope for redemption of her character in the next season.
The only problem with Lion-o freeing her from Mumm-Ra’s control is that she’s also tied to the ASoE, and we don’t know if the Spirit Stone would even do anything like bring her back from something like that…it tested Lion-o, sure, but he wasn’t being binded to the living world by the ASoE. It might not have the capabilities at this point, and even then, who’s the say she’d want to live after everything she’s been through (death, reanimation, likely losing her family in Thundera, and being a puppet)? If she is redeemed i think it’d be best for her to go to the afterlife. She deserves the rest.
