Jelenic said in an interview months ago that their take on Pumyra was going to be a bit different than her OS counterpart. It’s not like this show doesn’t have precedence on that. Most of the Thundercats are quite different from their OS versions. Especially Tygra.
As for her motivation. You have to think of things from her point of view, not from the main groups. She didn’t know that they were on a mission. As far as she knew Lion-O just ran away. It’s not like the show was televised in the Arena.

The first thing we are shown from her POV is that Lion-o comes to save her, and her reaction is to rat him out, and then tell him she’s gonna kill him.
I kind of like her voice, Ms Adlon has a highly dynamic voice that has a massive range, and we got to hear a lot of it here. It’s rough and gravelly when angry (and in my opinion, sexy as hell) to a warm alto when happy, and if you’ve heard any of her other work it gets kind of squeaky when excited (very cute). Lion-O’s voice is slowly getting deeper and rougher as the show progresses and he matures (It’s especially deep in this episode). I’m willing to lay odds and Pumyra’s voice mellows out as her story progresses to match her development.
I get how not everyone likes it though, I don’t think it’s such a huge change from the old Pumyra, but whatever.
I simply didn’t know. It’s only now that I come to this forum since recently that I see this info posted. The overwhelming majority of viewers will not be aware of such information, they just watch a show and take it at face value. Some changes I like (for example the reincarnations of monkian and jackalman from their former more goofy selves) and others, like this one, not so much.
Yeah, I just recently marathoned the whole second season, and she was barely ever doing anything. Nothing was really ever said about her and she was kinda just in the background.
I don’t know about any rivalry or jealousy, but it would be nice to see how Cheetara and Pumyra interact, being the only adult (sort of) women on the team. Maybe they’re forced to share a room on the Sabertank and their personalities initially clash before they reach an understanding, unfortunately since the season is quickly wrapping up I doubt they’ll have the time to devote to what would be purely a character piece. Maybe in the next episode they’ll butt heads over how to infiltrate the mine and rescue the slaves with Lion-O caught in the middle. Their rivalry really doesn’t have anything to do with him (being more about methods and ideology), but since he’s king he gets final call so they both vie for his attention.
Cheetara would be suggestive (not sexually, stop it) and gentle, probably using the same intimate voice she used when attempting to help him with Sight Beyond Sight to sway him (hey, it worked before), where Pumyra is much more aggressive and proactive, actually grabbing him and physically dragging him where she thinks he needs to go.
Haha! I like what you said about Pumyra. I think I’m going to like her more than Cheetara. She’s just awesome, mainly because she’s not like Cheetara in a sense that she is more violent.
I can see this scenario happening easily. I think Lion-O will also lean towards Pumyra’s ideas, mainly because she was a slave at one point. I’m sure Cheetara wouldn’t like this, but I’m sure Lion-O still has a little bit of resentment towards her because of what happened. I’m not saying they aren’t on good terms, but no one forgets something like that.
I’m getting off-topic, but my point is Pumyra is bringing a whole different attitude and personality to the cats, and it’s going to be interesting how they can make her and the others interact.
I think Liono will lean towards Pumyras suggestions more because her wilder nature appeals to his impetuous rebellious streak we saw in the pilot and a few times since. Yes he is growing and maturing, but it is still there. For example, where Cheetara thinks before she acts, Pumyra will react much more on instinct and heart, and Liono does too in a lot of ways.
Lion-O still follows his heart, but now he also tempers that with knowledge, experience, maturity. He’ll probably be simultaneously drawn to and frustrated by her because she reminds her of how he used to be.
