Tygra’s role as the brains of the group might just be starting to show now.
The Drifter was a great character. And I don’t know what it was, but I got a Rankin-Bass vibe from him. Not the os Thundercats kind but the Christmas special kind. Call me odd but.
I know what you mean, I got that too… I think its his way of speaking, it has something 1960’s about it, reminded me of the Cheshire Cat in a lot of ways…
Stephen Root totally reminded me of the Snowman at the beginning of Rudolph (which was, of course, a Rankin/Bass show).
That crossed my mind as well and I think it would have come across as a cheat. Lion-O wouldn’t have learned a valuable lesson about how to fight smarter.
I liked this episode actually. i’m not usually a fan of Lion-o solo episodes seeing as it is called Thundercats..as in the group, but this was very entertaining and I am really appreciating the artwork.

Nope, you’re not the only one. Like I said in my own review, I got that same impression off of him too.
While a six week break might seem unusually long, it makes sense when you consider CN’s got other shows set to debut on that night like their new Green Lantern series and the return of Young Justice. And these days it’s not unusual for a show to go on a hiatus for that long. It used to be shows would debut their seasons in the Fall and run straight to Spring, at which point they’d air reruns until the next season started. But now with cable and DVR, it no longer matters when they premiere, and they just air how many episodes they’ve got ready, take a break and then air more once they’re in the can. And in CN’s case, it sounds like they’ve got it set up on an alternating schedule, so that once one show’s finished its batch of episodes, they can go ahead and start running a different show until they’re done, and so forth.
I’m not too worried about this. They’ve got a lot of cool shows on Fridays. I’m just hoping doesn’t conflict with my watching Fringe on that same night!

I think I’ll like this episode more in the future once the season plays itself out. I was kind of annoyed with the back to back Lion-O only shows (last weeks was understandable and awesome). Kind of tainted my enjoyment of this one. I wanted to see the other characters.
I feel like this was the tactical moral of the story:
“The secret of swordsmanship - the wind in the willows.”
This weeks episode “The Duelist and the Drifter” gets a 4 out of ten from me. When I saw the episode was gonna be about swords and dueling, I thought for sure that Hachiman would make an appearance. However it didn’t turn out that way LOL. Anyway it was an odd episode for a while and the Rabbit Drifter reminded me of the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. It didn’t get good for me until the last seven minutes, good moral and all but I hope this series doesn’t expect morals at the end of each story to make it a long running series. Hopefully next week will be better.
You and me both. Hopefully Fringe will stick to a 9pm time slot.
Sorry Hachiman fans that he didn’t make an appearance. We all would have loved to see him too and he actually would of been suited for the episode. That being said I really did like the odd singular quirkiness of the Drifter. I dug his appearance and demeanor. It belies his actual swordsmanship and proficient weapon making skill underneath. Kind of like when Yoda first appears to Luke in ESB.
Very good story telling.
The design of the town and his people where very interesting.
I would love too see again not only the drifter but several others too especially the pig, the dog and the ninja who did the test of the sword before lion-o.
A world with only the old characters is not the same as interesting a one with many new ones.
Actually it looked like it was all Tygra’s idea to try to hook the book up. At least by Pathro’s “Let’s hope your brother has better luck finding supplies.” So it looks like this project was all Tygra.
Pathro came up through the ranks of the army. The back bone of any army is logistics and engineering. The basic rules of machines and engineering don’t change. People always think about the fighting but never things like moving men and supplies to where they needed to be, taking buildings down, building bridges ect.
Besides we don’t know how long Pathro and his lady have been together. I think the fact that Tygra is even allowed to TOUCH her says alot about what Pathro feels about Tygra’s ability.

I thought the crow was mumm-ra, in the os mumm-ra worked from the shadows with others being manipulated to do the hard work for him.
oh yeah me too when I saw it crow at them, especially as he turned into a black bird thing being defeated in eps 5 I think (when Jaga sacrifices himself).
Beautiful episode, well written with background animation to die for! Yes, the story is Lion-O-centric but the series is about his coming-of-age journey and the lessons he must learn along the way. And how he learned this lastest one was fabulous, the Drifter showing him how to be a reed in the wind instead of a bull in a china shop. I agree that, after returning all those swords to their rightful owners, the Drifter must come back to teach Lion-O much more about being a true swordsman because Lion-O can definitely use it. As for the Duelist, he was clearly the neighborhood bully who was exposed as a coward who hid behind the swords he took from lesser opponents, so I don’t think we’ll see him again anytime soon. And, yes, I spotted the two Orko-like characters in the background during the second clash between Lion-O and the Duelist.
At present we’re only eight episodes into a projected 52-episode run, so I’m sure the producers have episodes planned for the other Cats as well, as it would be wrong for them not to do this. That being said, it’s interesting how the show started with Lion-O as the one interested in technology, and now it’s Tygra who’s becoming the techno-geek (he has to be learning this from Panthro; who else can he learn it from?). If WilyKat is helping to fix the ThunderTank, than he’s also taking instructions from Panthro.
To be honest, Tugra never complained about technology or said it was useless or stupid, he just didn’t believe it existed. It’s different.
