Continuing the weekly talkback thread series, this week is “The Duelist and the Drifter”. In this thread there are no spoiler tags needed, as the title has a spoiler warning!

I also finally got an answer to the whole which Planet are they on the Big Sphere or the Moon and The official Crew Blog answer was “Sorry we can’t answer that” eek::sneaky: Oh well let the Debate continue.
Now, THAT’S what you call a story. No huge secrets revealed. No back story. No Mumm-Ra. And it was probably one of the best episodes so far. I mean, I love all the myth-building stuff, but I’m a sucker for some solid storytelling and this had it in spades.
But come on, this story was all about The Drifter, who was SUCH an amazingly realized creation. From his design to the whimsical way he moved to the excellent voice acting… just top notch.
I enjoyed the hell out of this episode. I hope we see The Drifter again.
Personally, i think this is my favorite episode yet. I don’t know about anyone else…but I find when Lion-o learns a life lesson, that those are some of the better episodes. This is also an episode I think we can all learn from. Learning how to use our weaknesses to our advantage, in order to succeed. Or at the very least, being aware of our own shortcomings.
I think he learned fighting only brute force will only get you so far unless you learn some finesse. Before defeating the drifter in that second duel, I think Lion-O pretty much just fought offensively most of the time by trying to recklessly overwhelm his opponent than trying to look for openings in his opponents defense, creating openings, or minimizing his own holes in his defense. That is a major part of fighting.
Personally, I was surprised on how much I liked this episode. Though I still hope we’ll get some character building in the next episodes for the other thundercats.
I think he is learning about technology from Panthro.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Lion-O is trying to learn from Panthro as well but his enthusiasm about technology is getting the better of him and probably causing more problems than actually learning. Hence why he was going out for supplies.
I’ll talk in more detail in the review for the site, but these comments pretty much mirror my own feelings - I can totally see why it won’t be every fan’s cup of tea, but personally I really, really enjoyed this episode!
Where did you hear that? These past two weeks have been funny for me and so I’m not as on top of things as I should be…that’s very sad news if so!
Really enjoyed it a ton. Great episode characters and a great “little” story (that could easily tie into the main story if the Drifter or Duelist returns again) with the awesome Drifter really adding the weight to it especially with his back-story and how he lost his prized sword to the Duelist himself, loved the little touches they gave to his character. The Drifter needs to show up again in the future.
Only flaw for me, totally thought the same thing, how the hell does Tygra suddenly know how wire stuff to even start messing with parts of the Thundertank let alone trying to hook the Book of Omens to it, tech barely existed to him a few “weeks” (?) ago, sure he didn’t exactly succeed right away (or maybe still hasn’t since we don’t know yet) but Tygra needed some screentime to set it up.
While perhaps they exaggerated a bit (to show off some totally sweet animation!) to me Lion-O has been doing this a while he’s just very one-sided like his dad in aggressive swordplay especially in a real emotional battle, it’s not like using a sword is new to him just because he’s only gotten the Sword of Omens recently, I think he’s been training with a sword for a while, considering he was dueling with Claudus (even if Claudus had the upper-hand he was still parrying successfully and Claudus clearly wasn’t entirely holding back a ton while showing off the power of the Sword of Omens) right from the start in the premiere when he was presented with the sword I’d imagine they’d been training him with swords for quite a while in preparation. It’s just that now he’s finally getting lessons about the rest of swordplay, and I guess I could see the Duelist was probably not ready for him to even display any of those kind of tactics which could account for how Lion-O looked more refined at them then he probably should be so quickly if he’s new to it.
6 Weeks? I missed something… I know the 8:30 slot is missing next week due to 1 hour Clone Wars premiere, but it should be back the following week.
I’m not sure I follow the logic in the show. Mumm-Ra can’t even touch the Sword of Omens before it blasts him away. But the villainous Duelist can pick it up and it doesn’t react to the evil? Weird.
He surely isn’t a good guy, but I wouldn’t label him as evil.
My main problem with the episode is that Lion-O loses to an accomplished duelist with arguably the most powerful sword in existence, so he decides to get a cheap sword and challenge him again. His persistence is admirable, but putting his life on the line when the Duelist defeated him so easily is just stupid. Not to mention that even putting the Sword of Omens on the line in the first place is just insanely moronic, Lion-O should be smarter than this.
The Duelist also has an extensive collection of swords so he has obviously faced off against multiple styles. Lion-O shouldn’t have been able to beat him just because he decided to dodge all of the sudden, I’m sure other swordsman use this technique so he’d be more than capable of adapting.
