I think some of you are taking this animated TV show (thats aimed for kids) WWAAAAAAYYYY too seriously. I keep waiting to see a post say, “I havent seen Tygra pee yet; why hasnt we seen this yet!?”
Sure, we would all like to see storyline advances, character development, Tygra’s whip, Sight beyond Sight and other things that were used in the OS. But this is not the OS, and every single one of us knew that going into ep1. Ive enjoyed the show, and yes, I have minor gripes as well. Mainly, the storylines seemed too rushed. This is a show that could easily be an hour long every friday; but since thats not an option - we have to deal with it.
I re-watched the first season of the OS last month with my kids to get them familiar with the characters. Its the first time Ive watched the show (in whole episodes, not clips) since I was a kid. …and both me and my kids agreed that the beginning of season 1 was slow, and boring. the Mutants had no technology to start the show - and they had ZERO chance of winning any battles, as my 8 year old pointed out. Mumm-ra didnt really make that many appearances early in season 1. Lion-O discovered different people and places early in Season 1. It wasnt like there was an all-out raging war with the Cats vs. Mutants. There were a lot of episodes where I was like, “I watched this? ..maybe it was more entertaining with I was 7.” It just seemed too slow with almost no action. Too many times it seemed like the show was Lion-O and Snarf walking around giving life lessons. The 10th episode, Lord of the Snows, was the best episode of the first 10.
So, after watching the first 3 weeks of the new show - I like this one better; and my kids LOVE this show, …Much more than the OS. And like I said, of course theres things we all want to see - and I believe this show will be A LOT better going forward each week. Theres plenty of time for Character development and storylines. Hell, we just got introduced to Panthro! I wasnt thrilled with the Ramlak episode. But like the original Season 1, the Thundercats are discovering their planet and everything on it. But this happens to be better.
Song of the Petalars was better than any of the first 3 episodes of the OS. The first episode of the new series, in my opinion, was better than almost any episode from the OS.
I just think that some of you people are getting too tweaked out when the new series is basically going along with the OS: Their discovering their planet. ..The twists in the storylines just happen to be different.
I’m saying maybe it will get better with time. They are dragging their heels right now.
In the OS that WAS a brand new planet not Thundera. They had lost pretty much everything and were starting over from scratch. This is Thundera and nobody before Claudus became Lord decided to explore the planet? How did they become so powerful in the first place to run down the lizard people and make them despise them so much?
I’m sure they’ll get to that sooner or later but I’m thinking how can you say you’re an all powerful people and you don’t even know what’s in your “kingdom”?
Believe it or not, Coldwin, it sounds like you and Cheezey and Ocelli and I are both on the exact same page and liking this show for a lot of the same reasons! Yep. I’m just as surprised as you are. Know what else? I’m actually very happy about that. I guess miracles really do happen.
Does our Thundercats team, these kids know much about the world? I HARDELY THINK SO. That you talk about was aimed at the adults and those who fought in the wars that were.
Yes, those are questions to be answered and Im sure we’ll see those in later episodes. So far they’ve left the impression that Lion-O and the others never left the walls of their kingdom. So for them, their exploring their planet for the first time, much like in the OS. To me it appears that Claudus was blind to everything that went on around them by not leaving their walls, and was against change (magic vs. technology)
LOL! I think if they’d just spilt the ‘kitten time’ up a little bit among the other characters it would would help with some of the complaints.
Next to Lion-O I think they’ve got the most screen time.
And you’re right we really are rushing to judgment on things.
It’s tough to really know how characters are going to grow and bounce off of one another until all the team dynamics are in place. The final piece of the team is now here.
They very well might use Pathro as a sounding board for Tygra’s development. In the OS they did have a quirky friendship none of the others really understood. (Trust me, it won’t leave the table) It’s something they might be planning to carry over. And if they do Tygra is no longer the odd man out group wise.
Another show I could compare it to might be Babylon 5. The first season also started out kind of slow with stand-alone episodes, with elements of the the larger story (like the Shadows) getting teased-out. It really wasn’t until the second or third seasons that the main story really began to unfold and get going. Midway through the thrid and all of the fourth, it took center stage. Looks like the new TCats might be going the same way.

While I guess he could be just trying to hype it up, I really expect it to get better. The only thing I’m not really satisfied with is how little Cheetara and Tygra have done so far. I want a little less Lion-O and a little more everyone else.
And yeah I kinda wish the episodes were an hour long too. they do feel slightly rushed (though less so when you watch them without commercials oddly enough) and an hour long animated show would be kinda groundbreaking. No one makes hour long animated shows. at least not in the US.
Just so I can say it, I still have a lot of hope for this show. Im not only willing, but I actually want to see whats going to happen next. Ive been seeing the same type of complaints and its been pretty justified. On the other hand the show is new. As it progresses the writers will have more to work with in terms of figuring out how to write each of the characters.
I agree A:TLAB started of slower and ended on a much stronger show. If memory serves me I actually left the show about 6 episodes in and then came back around the last bit of season two. I think I really just forgot about it for a while.
I just have this feeling of uncertainty . Like I have no idea who Im going to be watching when the next ep airs. Its not a good feeling.
One thing I do like (especially in this episode) is that even though the mechas are obviously CG, they don’t look jarringly out of place. I was really worried about that when I saw the wondercon trailer.
I’ve noticed a lot of CG blending, not just with the mechs, but little things too, like the energy from the bolas that captured the twins and the chameleon lizards cloaking ability. But it sorta fits with the magic/technology theme of the show.
I wonder why some of you even bother watching at all. It ain’t War and Peace, folks. I take it for what it’s worth: a fun show with cool character designs rebooting something I loved as a child.
This episode was great, I want some Petalars pack-ins with the next wave of action figures Bandai does!
I said Claudus and the lords BEFORE him. Claudus said it was their Thundercat ancestors that defeated Mumm-ra. Where did they meet up with him in the first place if they’ve never did any serious exploring before now?
YE my point. THE THUNDECATS AS A RACE, has probably done some exploring. Has our team done that? Probably NO. If they had maps or what ever to show that they had explored third earth they are probably GONE BY NOW as Thundera got attacked.
well seeing as how we dont know how far back those ancestors were…
for all we know it could’ve been centuries ago. most likely was. and if they’ve been walled up all that time the world would have changed in that time and any records they had could have been lost.
The new serie is so heavily inspired by The Avatar. The dramatic style, the upcoming character twists and storylines. People here on the board need to pay more attention and not just posting some weird messages on the board. As far as I remember the producers said it loud and clearly at IGN that there will be some big confrontationen between Lion-O and Tygra and even now some of you try to bash everything down.
My only advice for you guys is to watch The Avatar from Episode 1. You’ll see how this ThunderCats show will play it cards out later because it’s for most people obvious who are familiar with The Avatar. Honestly people, you have no damn idea how well done Avatar has been made and how ThunderCats is getting in to the same direction. Listen to me guys and watch the whole first season of The Avatar. You’ll understand the current TC much better after watching it.
As long as they don’t make Tygra a Zuko character I’m good.
And if they do go with Airbender forumula you’re going to see characters come in to their powers, be trained in them, and grow with them for the final battle.
One reason I’m not writing Tygra coming in to his mind powers off yet.
For me, as long as they don’t do something crazy at the end like say “God did it,” (BSG) or have all the characters in some big place like a church doing a group hug (Lost) then I’m fine.
