Cheetara would not intervene and she wouldn’t take sides. In her position, she would only defend Lion-O against any threat she deemed he could not handle, like in the premiere, she waited until he was being choked to death and not able to get out of it to strike. She would know Tygra wouldn’t kill his brother. And I’m sure that as he is also a prince, she would use her skills to help Tygra as well.
I can’t imagine him going off on his own.
I agree. The show is feeling a little flat so far and could use depth.
Too much Lion-O in both last week and this week. I want more character development with the others and not all on Lion-O. One of the things I loved about Lord of the Rings was that it wasn’t just one character that stood out, it was the ensemble. You had nine members of the fellowship of the ring, each one strongly developed. Even in Harry Potter, we understood all 3 kids and not just Harry’s background.

Sadly, this actually crossed my mind as I watched this episode.
It’s not just for children. They said they were trying to reach adults and children alike with this cartoon.
I was under the impression that Wolfe’s notes constituted the original Bible for the show as he thought up all the characters. Guess, I should see what (gratuitous plug) Hear The Roar has to say.
My point is that by episode 4 in the original series, we had a pretty good idea who was who, and what their role was. Here, personalities keep changing so I’m thinking both Lion-o and Tygra are bi-polar. Cheetara is relegated as the voice of reason as the only female. In the OS things did center around Lion-o but the other characters usually had their say. No so far here, not to any depth. I am trying to pinpoint what I am not feeling with this new show and the best I can say is no heart and no charisma.
And please think, it’s on Cartoon Network. Say that loud to yourself. CARTOON NETWOORK.
It’s not somewhere were you see stuff like Prison Break, Smallville, Lost or anyother tv series. IT AIRS ON CARTOON NETWORK. It’s a show for the children handsdown and a big promotion for the action figures. The series was designed as a marketing ploy for a new ThunderCats toyline. Thundercats represents a throwback to the drearily toy-driven 1980s, a period that seems destined to keep returning as much out of pragmatism as nostalgia. You can’t expect this to be high production or anything.

Yeah, Cartoon Network that has “Adult Swim.” This is not a channel geared just towards kids like the Disney Channel is. I’ve seen a lot of stuff on that channel that are not deisgned for children. And perhaps that’s why Cartoon Network took on the series, if other channels felt it wasn’t geared enough towards kids to take on.
If the producers wanted to tout it as an adult series, it should have been on Adult Swim, like other anime on CN. But to denigrate the OS as not adult, then just turn out a series on supposedly the same kiddie level is a sham. I can’t talk for other older fans, but I expected more. The OS was not hollow, unlike this one.
You might argue that someone was worried about leading the lizards to the book as well. So one way or the other they had to shake them before continuing on.
A surprise attack might have been enough to beat the mutants back and lose their tails. On the other hand superior numbers running and trying to give them the slip was not a bad idea either.
Though I will agree with the others… Two episodes of straight Lion-O emoing is enough. I’d like to see them give the other characters the chance. Cheetara I realize is probably coming up when they discover Jaga is in fact alive. But at least let us see what’s going on in Tygra’s head with a little dialog at least. He lost his father just like Lion-O did and is dealing with all the same issues.
I’m surprised Miyazaki hasn’t sued WB for using his style so much. Every episode looks like a Studio Ghibli product.

I heard that too and I didn’t like it. He’s looks like a mutated frog more than he does a lizard.
When they mean more mature for these shows it just means being able to punch somebody in the face without having to do a cutaway/flash of light before impact. I do like Lion-o hacking away with the sword this time around:thumbsup:
This is still a product to sell toys like it was in the 80’s. Only this time kids and adults want to buy them.
From what I understand, what passed for the “bible” was only about 7 pages long. There was almost nothing about it that explained the backgrounds of the characters, what Third Earth was or the overall geographical layout of the planet and who or what lived on it (aside from Mumm-Ra of course), the cultural background of Thundera or anything like that. Compare that to the bible of a show like Star Trek: The Next Generation. I had a copy of that, and it was a good 50 pages long and went into exhaustive detail about who the characters were, what the Enterprise was capable of, what the overall intent of the show was, how the phasers and transporters worked, what sort of stories were allowed, etc. A good show needs a comprehensive bible like that, and none of that was in evidence in the OS and it showed.

If you’ve seen Adult Swim, then they really couldn’t have shown it to kids, could they? If you’ve seen any episodes of The Venture Bros., Metalocalypse or some of the other stuff, you know that it can get really perverse and violent. I don’t think TCats really lends itself to the kind of makeover they gave Battlestar Galactica, where they made it really dark and serious and humorless, to the point where almost every episode I watched made me want to slit my wrists by the end of it. At the end of the day, it’s still a high adventure show. I don’t think however that necessarily precludes it from telling more “adult” stories. This episode I think proves that. “Adult” doesn’t necessarily equal dark, violent and gritty. It can also mean mature and intelligent, and that’s what they did here. I’m sorry, but with the OS, I felt like my intelligence was being insulted, and I actually felt like I was losing IQ points while watching. I don’t get that with the new show at all. In fact, I find it to be a good Sci-Fi Fantasy drama/adventure in the vein of the original Star Trek or Doctor Who.
I thinkhe will leave the group at some point but, even though I used to think he would be tempted by Grune, I doubt it now. He saw Grune killing his fahter and somehow is responsible for how things are right now for him.
Now, I’m wondering if in the beginning Tygra was out in the woods secretely watching over the Thunderkittens. Lion-o and Cheetara seemed pretty oblivious by the fire. Unless this group thinks it’s an actual good idea to have two 6 year old kittens running around strange, dark, woods after dark by themselves?
And yup, the kittens do look much better groomed and cared for this episode.

Yes, but it was Grune’s betrayal that allowed that to happen. I can’t see Tygra being able to separate that and in any way forgive or justify Grune’s part in Thundera’s destruction and Claudus’ death.
Before the series started, I used to think that, even when grune was involved in the betray and murder of Claudus, the TCs wouldn’t actually see him, so he ahs the benefit of doubt on his side as there wouldn’t be any proofs (which would have been a smart move from the bad boys); then Claudus would find Tygra and tell him that he (Grune) had nothing to do it the whole thing, that he was framed, whatever, and take Tygra to his sode for a while.
Now Tygra knows Grune has to do with it, and I doubt he will forgive him and join to him, for whatever reason.

No I can’t see Tygra being tempted by Grune either.
One reason my money is still on something out of Airbender and there’s a pocket of possibly (Tiger) Thunderian resistance out there. 1) lead by noble that was a complete thorn in Claudis’s side or blames Claudis’s house for Thunderia’s destuction. That’s where we’ll meet up with Bengali and they’ll tempt Tygra in to thinking about leaving the group.
At least until the mutants take them down from within and they get wiped out and/or captured.
My bet anyway.
And damn, you people are right… Tygra without his whip is like Linus from Peanuts without his blue blanket. I like the gun… But the whip you could do so much with from ladder to gym set.
I just don’t see Tygra going off on his own, if for no other reason, it would put more emphasis on Tygra than the show probably would like to do. It’s all about Lion-O, not Tygra. Unless they did it just to get him out of the picture for awhile and then he comes back without us ever seeing what he did when he was away.
I have little faith that the new series will give Tygra any more love than the old series did.
I didn’t think it strange that we didn’t see Tygra. Clearly they didn’t want Tygra there so that Lion-O and Cheetara could have a tender moment. I don’t think it’s any more or less than that. I seriously doubt he was watching the kids, I don’t think any of them feel they have to keep their eyes too close on the kids considering they are tagalongs and aren’t going to want to stray far from the group. If you want to give Tygra a reason for being absent, best thought I could come up with is he was scouting the area making sure there weren’t any enemies hidden about before the went to sleep for the night.
I agree with Nine Tiger in most parts. The big difference is that I will keep watching because I want to know what other places/characters nof the OS will show up!
Besides that I still hope some backstory will surface rather sooner than later. So far it are nothing stories with Lion’o and some new species in the centre circle.
The 2 last episodes were not bad but I don’t see the point in them yet…
“Old Friends” should definately flesh things out. The betrayal between Grune and Panthro should be fully explained. I also really really hope that Lion’o does know panthro because he really should after watching the pilot episodes.
As far as Tygra goes, he will be a side character, just like in the old show, he is there but that’s it.
