But well yeah. I do bother. I mean, I do look at it as something else now, but still. Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Slithe, Lion-O, Cheetara (except the cleric thing), heck even Kit and Kat all have the same abilities, skills and backgrounds, very slightly different than the original and it works. WHY do this to Tygra? Just taking that in account with the other characters, why bother watching the new series? All the characters, except Tygra, have at least 90% similarity with their OS counterparts. Only Tygra doesn’t. Even Lynx-O in Ep. 2 was clearly him. Again, Tygra the only one ruined. After seeing Panthro for just a short moment changed my view on him. THAT is clearly Panthro and we haven’t heard anything from him except “I’m Panthro” .
I’m not hating, it just feels weired and makes it very hard, not only for me I bet, for many to accept. I like the new Tygra visual. The armor looks good on him, his character is just totally screwed.
A poster on another forum brought up a similar point. Just how far is the Petalars’ home? Some of them were adults when they drifted off, what if most of the die while on the way home?
I found the concept and design of the petalars really well made. I would’ve liked to see them interact w/ them more, maybe if it were 1 hr show. for that matter if TC were an hour show the stories wouldnt feel kinda rushed and maybe the heavy attachment the TC had w/ them would’ve been more believable.
For biengs that only live 24 hrs they had a very good amount of wisdom, I dont know how can you get that amount of wisdom and experience in a 24 hr lifespan specially since a lot of them walked from where the TC found them to the cliff and thats it, that was their whole life hehe
I also wonder how far was their home from Briar woods since it was a long journey for them, maybe it was a mile away lol
I also agree w/ cytre about tygra but i will give it some time since his character still in development but if it stays like that then yeah, they kinda screwed up tygra.
I think the prolem isn’t if Tygra will develop as a character or not, but how he’s changed from his counterpart in the OS, while the other characters, if not exactly the same, can be identified with their OS’s coutnerpart in at least 90%. In the NS there is nothing of the OS Tygra.
And I wouldn’t like an 1-hour show as things go right now. It’d be 58 minutes of Lion-o and 2 mins of Tygra, Cheetara and the kittens :D.
I actually didn’t care for the Petalars. They reminded me too much of the head-tilting things from Princess Mononoke; more creepy than cute.
But I liked the rest of the episode. It was nice to see some of the lizards get some differentation, and of course, couldn’t miss with that Panthro entrance.
[spoiler]Just a note: saw next episode on Comcast Guide listed V for violence and S for Sexual situation. It’s Panthro & Grune Time for the plot. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm…
I’m taking a stand for the Thundercats show. I know how remakes, reboots and such can make or break a already existing show. Look at the many Game to Movie or Cartoon to Movie etc. jumps. Mortal Kombat for instance or streetfighter. Far Cry and yes even Resident Evil. Look what they did with the Smurfs or Scooby Doo, Garfield and uhh The new Adventures of He-Man (not the 2002 one) or even the He-Man movie in the 90’s.
Too many examples of how Hollywood tends to ruin every thing they pick up to refilm or reboot/remake. There are only very few that have not been ruined. Spiderman actually has been a good Cartoon/Comic to Movie. But why? I’ll lean out the window and just say, Stan Lee had much influence to stay original. Transformers was not too bad. Maybe Micheal Bay was such a Transformers fan that he new what would happen if he screw that up.
Then we have some X-Men movies that were ok too. But put all those on a weigh and see where it leans toward. Exactly. Screwed up Shows.
Now like I said, I’m giving the new series a chance, I just know staying true to the original series would have also made a great remake. I hope the new series won’t have any other major things bugging me. I’m accepting Panthro’s chops, but I still can’t get around with Tygra.
Why I emphasize that so much? Well besides Lion-O, Tygra and Panthro have been my favorites. They where my Trio back in the day. Both Tygra and Panthro did a good job making Lion-O to the man he turned out to be. I can’t see that job alone on Panthro and doing that with 2 “kids”.
About the episode.
Yes I liked it a lot. The story was actually very nice. I didn’t cry, it’s just a Cartoon after all, but the story was nice. I enjoyed it. Can’t wait to see what happens next.
I wanted to pick up the discussion about Cheetara and Lion-O at the early beginning of the episode.
The discussion was about how Cheetara and Lion-O getting closer to each other and how Snarf ruined it. I just watched that episode again and I don’t see that at all.
Lion-O is talking with her in a quite moment about his feelings and his of his Father. She puts her hand on his to comfort him, not to flirt. They talk a bit more and then Cheetara says something about hope and looks at Lion-O. Again no Flirting. She always has that look somehow and I think thats ok. Not like many screwed up people thinking acting “girly” is a sexual oppression.
Snarf interrupts yes, but not cause of the “flirt” so many interpreter but cause of the Mutants heading their way.
A very good entrance to the episode IMO. Emphasizes how Lion-O does grieve the lost of his Father, but didn’t have the time to really mourn or talk about his feelings and then when he does they are in threat again.
He was talking about his loss and how he is losing sight of life. Talking helps people. He was in that process and got comforted and encouraged then Snarf interrupts.
Honestly, I don’t get the part of him and Cheetara flirting or any other romance. Just cause some people want it to happen it will as the creators have mentioned with the triangle situation. I don’t think thats a good idea though. That will cause rivaling between the TCats and that again doesn’t fit with the Code of Thundera.
That could be because that’s how Lion-O was starting to interpret the situation

She’s a counselor to Lion-O too. Where Lion-O doesn’t believe in himself, Cheetara is the one person on the team who knows what he’s capable of and pushing him towards his ultimate place on king. And because of it, Lion-O interprets a lot of her interest as affection. So we start seeing some possible romance between the two."
Just the way it’s worded makes me think that this situation (and many more in the future) is more of Lion-O thinking she’s showing interest. I can’t say flirting because it seems out of place in the situation, but you could say affectionate comfort.
Personally I think she’s just giving him comfort–I don’t see any romance on her end during the conversation.
Lion-O’s response after the interruption sounds like the perfect c**k blocked reply to me. All things considered Im willing to be thats how we were suppose to interpret it, but I can see it a different way.
As for Cheetara, Im not as sure that she ment to come across as flirtatious. She was just doing her job.
Has the Code of Thundera even been mentioned in the new series so far? If not, I’m thinking they’re eventually going to create or re-discover the Code of Thundera, so them not getting along now doesn’t mean they’re breaking the code since they’re not following it to begin with.
I’m not thrilled about the future love-triangle either, though.
About Lion-O and Tygra not getting along: They’re both in the middle of growing up under some very extreme circumstances. I see this first part of the series as a coming-of-age story for both of them, and the goal of the first part of their journey is Lion-O settling into his role as Lord of the Thundercats and Tygra accepting Lion-O as his king rather than just seeing him as a little brother who isn’t acting the way he thinks their dead father would have wanted. If Tygra is going to be developed the way I think, then I’m sure he will be a great support for Lion-O in the future.
About the episode: I thoroughly enjoyed it. A single tear was shed when Emrick died. I’m really excited to see what new!Panthro is like.
