Do you really think Jaga knows that actual location of the Book of Omens? He told Lion-O where to look. I’m guessing he’s only pointing Mumm-Ra to that same place, but doesn’t actually know where the book physically is.
I don’t know what Pirats of Dark Water is. But I did get a Pirates of the Carribean vibe.

About Episode 3…
Overall I really enjoyed it. The series is just a pleasure to look at and the music is fantastic. Boo about the intro (or lack thereof…) so I really hope they do have an extended one for the DVD/BD release.
I was a little annoyed the Moby Dick rehash was so on the nose, but that was minor. I hate when people refer to stories as “filler.” There was a time when shows were made of single episode stories! Just because it doesn’t relate to the main mythology doesn’t mean it’s filler or can’t be enjoyed for what it is!
As for the Thunderkittens… they are amazing. Who would have thought? They are definitely my favorite characters. And Snarf is amazing too!
Okay, just watched. Glad to see they’re sustaining the level of quality from the pilot.
What I liked:

[li]The opening with Kit playing her flute. Very nice and somber. While we may not get a whole lot of time to dwell on the destruction of Thundera, I felt this was a nice way of eulogizing the fall of this civilization. And speaking eulogizing…[/li][li]Liked the little funeral service for Claudus. We had never seen anything close to a religion among the Thundercats, and it was nice to finally see them practice some form of ritual (I always thought they observed a from of ancestor worship myself, and that scene seemed to be kind of leaning in that direction).[/li][li]Lion-O’s behavior in context bears out what I thought. And more importantly, sets the stage for what is the theme of this episode. Speaking of which…[/li][li]While there is a moral in this episode, like in the old show (in this case, “The path of blind vengeance never ends well”) they don’t hit you over the head with it or tack it or force it on. Instead it’s organic to the story and trusts the audience to figure it out on their own, which is how it should be.[/li][li]Nice to see the show retaining its penchant for really far out locales. A literal sea of sand? Cool. Something tells me Third Earth in this show would make for a hell of an MMO (are you listening out there, Cartoon Network?)[/li][li]Seasick Tygra! LOL! I’m sure that’s a callout to the old show or maybe a fanfic somewhere.[/li][li]Before I saw this episode, I thought, “The only thing that would make this show even cooler would be if they used a Wilhelm scream.” Well sure enough, a few seconds into the Ramlak’s first attack, I heard it! Kudos to the sound designer!:D[/li][li]The Moby Dick parallels were obvious, but it was clear they were having fun with it. I especially enjoyed the double reference of both Moby Dick and Wrath of Khan with the captain quoting “For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee!”:)[/li][li]Kit and Kit are doing a great job of living up to their reputation of being tricksters way more than on the old show. I agree with Lion-O: they’re more than capable of taking care of themselves!:)[/li][li]Jaga?! Not dead?! Wow. That was…um…unexpected. Well, at least he can’t be accused of being an Obi-Wan ripoff this time.[/li][li]First he murders Claudus, then he tortures Jaga and traps him an a lantern? Yeah, Mumm-Ra really is eeeeeeeevil with a capital E in here. Just like I’ve wanted him to be. 
[/li][li]Mumm-Ra’s pyramid is pretty cool-looking. Though it looks like you’d expect a Goa’uld ship to land on it at any moment. Overall, though, I approve. :)[/li][/ul]

I wonder if the ball that Jaga got sucked into didn’t suck him into the “astral plane” which is the title of a future episode.
Will they designed the Goa’uld ships to land on the ancient pyramids of Giza. And that’s what Mumm-Ra’s pyramid was designed after in the OS. So not sure if you’re thinking something different?
Forgot to mention that I liked what they did with Ramlak. Very Lovecraftian. Then they applied the tentacle madness as the common sea faring foe, the Kraken.
The Wilhelm scream is kind of an in-joke among sound designers and movie fans. You’ve probably heard it before and probably weren’t aware of it. But once you recognize it, you’ll hear it everywhere. It’s been around for decades, but really became popular after its use in Star Wars and other George Lucas-related productions, and it kind of went from there. Just was was saying how high-tech and futuristic it looked, and that it was kind of reminiscent of Goa’uld ship design was all I meant.
I liked the episode, some odd stuff but I think that’s expected in a kids show. The intro sucked but we were at least warned about it.
When I saw Jaga get sucked into the lantern my thoughts immediately went to the OS episode “The Astral Prison”.
The landscapes were really nice, the animation is still top notch and so is the music.
The Thunderkittens were super cute, especially the scene when they were doing the Meows to Lion-O, so Adorable, and the way they fight against the tentacle by biting it to death, lol so funny.
I found Lion-O to be insensitive in this episode and I actually like Tygra better.
Tygra in Armor is super sexy (Have a weakness for tigers), Also during the fights Tygra seems to be using the laser gun now more then his whip.
The Sea creature Pirates remind me of the Beserkers and it was good to see Jaga is still alive, but I still have a feeling he will die during the course of the series.
So far so good and I can’t wait for next week.
Was a bit disappointed with the intro…come on guys, Tcats was all about the intro! I hope we do see alonger one sometime.
But then…Coming to the ep I totally forgot about it! I really enjoyed it. Loving the characters & it was great to see Lion’-O acting all in charge & later realizing his mistake The Thunderkittens are pure gold in this series. Also am I tho only one who loved that Fishman cook. He had his moments too. I’m was amazed to see them show Claudus’ funeral. That was unexpected but it added depth to the Tcats culture.
Still can’t get how they fell for the obvious bait at the beginning. But it was the ending that made my day. The new Ancent spirits of Evil statues look Amazing & it was nicce to see Grune stand side but side with Mum-Ra. Can’t wait for the next.
I wasn’t pleased with the episode.
The writing wasn’t that strong as for the first two episodes. Why had they to cut the tygra-armor changing stuff? It doesn’t make any sense. The overall plot for the episode was classic but not really well done. Nobody will fall for such a stupid trap anymore, it was just a bad plot-device. And the dialogues with the fishmen were just stupid and childish. Wasn’t TC2011 almost 10 years in the making? I don’t see any proof for it in that episode.
The Lion-O/Tygra-moment was really strange. I actually hoped for more drama and not such american tv way-around stupidness. You know, how people tend to overplay dramatic moments and such things. You might can argument with the point that Tygra knews very well that Claudus was Lion-Os real father and that he is actually the one who had to be careful now. Even as brothers, it is still Lion-O who was the real son for Claudus due their bloodline, genes, whatever. I think Tygra knew that well and maybe thought he shouldn’t start any childish fights with Lion-O for now.
Lion-O was of course full of anger in the episode. He really didn’t care for anybody at all as long he can revenge his father. Sadly he learned his lesson to quick and that’s the whole problem with the episode: No one is buying this one. We’re talking about revenge. In the very same episode about losing everything and in the end he accepts his anger? Oh come on. He should had learned that fully driven anger will get only your own ass kicked. I didn’t liked his unbelieveable recovery at the end. It’s so cheap.

weak episode
i havent had time to read all the postings, but i think overall the episode was weak, there was no real developing dialogue at all through out the episode, just remarks along with one or two liners…no one said anything significant. it reminded me of those old 80s episodes that had no long term meaning to the series. sailing through that “sea” didnt really get them anywhere, it was our typical 80’s good deed token episode.
P.S. lion- o was cray, didnt make any sense, tygra became a weak and boring, how the hell did tygra get his armour?
Anyone with bothanical knowledge who has figured out if there is a name reference in Ramlak?
In thundercats it is a common theme to let the characters names reflect who they are: E.g. Tygra (Tiger), Toonar (Tuna), Mumm-Ra (Mummy) etc etc…
The first thing that popped to my mind was Ramsons…
In Swedish it is called Ramslök which is pretty close to Ramlak…
Since it is a garlic… maybe they were thinking Ramsons+Garlic= Ramlak
What would speak for it is that ramsons needs a lot of water… and that it fills the air with a garlic scent (“I can taste it’s foul breath on the wind”). Also it has long green leaves that could resemble the tentacles.
What speaks against it, is that the flower doesn’t look like the flower in the cartoon.
Has anyone found a better match?
well the 3rd episode was ok to be fair.
However those fishmen were awful. They looked like they had been drawn/designed by a 5 year old. That really spoiled the episode for me. It seems like they spent all their time designing the main characters and didn’t bother giving the fishies any thought.
As for Lion-o dragging the ship towards them? yeah right, as if!
The Ramlak frankly wasn’t big enough to to hold all that water.
Like i said, it was ok but it could have been so much more.
I think we’ll see Tygra use his whip in more close quarters fighting.
In this series they gave him both a long range and medium range weapon and the gun as the long range was a much better choice.
Ok my turn to make some points.
Every one noticed the Moby dick theme but am I the only one to catch the Hansel & Gretel Theme between this Kittens and the Cook?
As for using such obvious themes well that is the way the stories are passed from one generation to another. The actual kids watching this will have never read Moby Dick (heck I haven’t even read it.) So yes as soon as I heard the Quote of “I spit my last breath at thee” I said to myself that is from Star Trek. Yes I did realize its origins but that is its origin to me. So in 10-15 years some kid will be watching some show where a Character quotes the same line from Moby Dick and says “Hey they took that from ThunderCats!” :rolleyes: What-cha gonna do!

Also another minor pet peeve of mine but why do they bother with credits if they are just going to play them on a quartet of the screen, speed up to hyper-speed, with loud obnoxious Adverts over the top… Please CN give the people who work on these shows the proper respect the deserve!
I thought is was rather stereotypical to cast the pirates as a fish race. What is next Robber Raccoons, or Landfill Skunks??? Hmmmmm…
I want to know who built the skiff they sailed away on in the end. Was it the crew or Tygra?
Speaking of Tygra I think he is playing his role right now of the Good Loyal Solder. Don’t argue with your commander. Just Fallow Orders. Make a suggestion but don’t argue it. Chetara is the insightful Cleric contemplating the universe in the background and not offering much support till it is required. The Kittens are just Smart Ass little kids (like so many I know) and will eventually get in over their heads. The question is will Tygra rescue them and say “lets keep this between us” or will Lion-O do it and say “Don’t make a habit of this!” with a sly wink to follow.
As for the episode as a Whole… They traveled the road in front of them and strayed a bit. However in the process they (or Lion-O) realized their true path and made some friends too boot. I think we will see this come back to them later. : The ThunderCats are hopelessly outnumbered by the berzerkers then out of nowhere Tunars crew sails in to rescue them in repayment for the ThunderCats good deed of restoring their Oasis. Or to draw another Star-wars theme The Ewoks to the rescue. This may be how Lion-O will defeat Mumm-Ra’s forces/army in the end. He will have wandered Third earth Making many Allies which will all come to his aid in the final Battle!
I’ll have to watch this episode again before I comment any more but this is just what stood out at me! Perhaps I will also have to make a few retractions after I watch it again after all I didn’t want to say this but where was Snarf on the ship?
