That was a pretty poor episode. If it continues likes this, this reboot is finished.
While the episode doesn’t come close to the quality of the first episode, I only have big gripe with it…
A garbage truck? Really?
The fellow who wrote last night’s episode said on his Twitter account that it was based on Moby Dick and a cat food commercial. I feel like it took him all of 22 minutes to write it, so poor overall that it was.
What I am hoping the Thundercats find in the Book of Omens? The original Thundercats, of course!

It may take Mumm-Ra and Grune to where the Book of Omens is located, but that does not necessarily mean they will be able to get their hands on it. It may need a key i.e. the Sword of Omens.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Mumm-Ra’s pyramid can move either by flying or by teleporting using the obelisks in a cool thunderstorm kind of way.
As for Jaga ? I guess he is alive in that lamp, but is being forced to show the way otherwise massive amounts of pain get inflicted on him. Anyway who knows, Jaga could just be taking Mumm-Ra and Grune on a wild goose chase. It wouldn’t surprise me if Mumm-Ra has underestimated just how powerful Jaga is.
Or maybe a sea anemone.

It’s good they were able to properly eulogize Claudus and his remains. I was wondering about that.
The fishmen reminded me of the fishmen from the Castlevania video game series.
I found Jaga’s scene to be grotesque. I hope his spirit is soon freed. The latern navigator reminded me of the “head of the navigator” from the Secret of Monkey Island.
As I said in the sneak peak thread, I didn’t care for how Lion-O treated the Thunderkittens in the beginning. Now that I’ve seen the episode, I don’t like how Lion-O disregarded Jaga’s final instruction. Wasn’t Jaga the only one who believed in Lion-O at his lowest point in the premiere episode?
Lion-O seemed quite insane at the front of the ship, chopping flying rocks, but the worst in my opinion was how Lion-O took the captain’s obsession for his own.
I can understand how his thirst for revenge against Mumm-Ra may give him a kindred spirit in the captain, but one minute Lion-O is telling them he is Lord of the Thundercats, the next minute Lion-O seems to be taking orders from the fishman captain. “I’m right beside you, Captain”. Why is the Lord of the Thundercats taking orders from the fishman captain? This demonstrates to me that Lion-O is a weak person and isn’t fit to be a leader. Sure he made the right choice in the end, but I don’t think the Lord of the Thundercats should have gone down that road in the first place. Tygra and Cheetara better make sure that Lion-O doesn’t join any charismatic cults along the way.
I’m not sure what to say about this episode. I want to love it but i just can’t. The first two episodes were actually really really good, and that i really mean. I cried when i watch them as i saw Lion-O Swing his sword for the first time, how you got to see Mumm-Ra and finally hear teh “HO”.
This was just.. Feels like an filler episode almost. the story hardely even progressed their way. Still, even if i dont love it as much at the premiere it was still a good watch.
Wow! The third episode was ok! But it all felt so rushed! It jumped form one point to the other! I would have enjoyed if the Cats were walking a bit longer through the ruins of Thundera! But it all happened so fast! I think the episodes should have more time! Like 35 min or so!
I liked Lion-O’s attitude! Gives him a little bad ass touch! But once again it all happened to fast! He turned from caring cat to ****y cat to I’m sorry cat in seconds! That was bad!
The Kittens were not as annoying as they were in the first two episodes! Quite liked them this time!
Did Snarf say “Snarf” in one scene? Or was it just me making up things that weren’t there! I hope he will stay quiet! 
Tygra did not have so much impact on the episode like he did in the first two! Was kind of a watered-down version to his first appereance! Don’t know how to think about!
Mumm-Ra was great! Can’t wait to see him getting more involved in action!

I just want to say that there is a reason the producers want 52 episodes. Some of you guys come up with dozens of questions, how on earth can they all be adressed in a 22 minute episode???
In time everything will be explained, I have no worry about that.
As for the episode itself. This episode will not be remembered as an important one, a filler episode.
I liked the new characters design and variety, ship design was cool, loved the laser gun, charismatic captain, good action. Focus on Lion’o, the other Cats will have their own episodes in the future probably. As a story it was rushed but seriously why on earth are episodes only 22 minutes long

I enjoyed it. I have no problem with the short intro. It’s okay, and better than the hacked up Toonami remix of the original in the 1990s. I’m one of the people who thinks the classic version was great and didn’t really want to see an attempt to top it, anyway.
As for the episode itself, I found it a fun watch. The Moby Dick parallels didn’t bug me. I laughed at Lion-O’s arrogant demand to be released and also thought it was a lot like OS Lion-O. The kittens were flipping adorable. The funeral was a nice touch, and I thought when the garbage truck scene happened that, “Well, I guess one man’s trash really is another man’s treasure!” But I’m a sarcastic wise-ass, so…
Also, I didn’t think Tygra’s sea/sand sickness was that unrealistic, since the one time I was seasick it happened to me in a similar way. It was on a summer camp deep sea fishing trip and I was fine while the boat was moving. When it stopped and was just rocking back and forth on the waves, that was when it hit me. I didn’t catch any fish on that trip; I was curled up in a fetal position on a bench thinking “make it stop!” When the boat started moving again, the motion sickness abated and I felt better.
On the second veiwing there’s a lot more stuff in play than we’re giving credit.

Now the the race is on-- The bad guys have a map to the Book of Omens and so do the good guys. The good guys just don’t realize the kittens have it yet.

We have met a force more stubborn than Lion-O. The kittens can out stubborn Lion-O at his worst. (Hey NO mean feat of hard-headness there.)

I think we saw the beginning of group dyamics being forged. It wasn’t Cheetara but Tygra brought the kittens up twice to Lion-O. I’m wondering if letting them join was A) Lion-O’s way of showing he was sorry to Tygra in his own face saving way. And B) Tygra feeling responsible and falling in to ‘big brother’ mode with the kittens for later episodes.
This episode reminds me of some Air Bender episodes where you don’t appriecate the flow until you see it lumped up together with others.
Man, when Lion-O was going nuts with the sword into the stone wall, and we pulled back and it we see that he was carving the Thundercats insignia into the wall, that really hit me for some reason. A powerful scene.
I thought this was a great bridge episode, exactly what this series needs. A nice self-contained story while pushing the overall-story arc forward at the beginning and the end. Reminded me a lot of the structure of episodes of Burn Notice, if anyone watches that show on USA.
What I like best so far is the hard hitting action. When Lion’o etc hit someone it feels weighted and hard, we saw that again on episode 3 when the ramlak whack a fishman, it feels hard.
I also like how they are not hiding death, we’ve seen several fishman dragged into the sea and a clear sentence about the death of their captain
Same goes for the 2nd episode with Claudus and a couple of dead bodies on the bridge.
I think the main difference with the last airbender is that thundercats is probably more action orientated while avatar also ralies on emotions and bringing it on screen, whereas the thundercats bring brutal fights on screen
There’s no garbage truck in the show?? The lizards have an ATV vehicle of some sort. Considering that they had giant walking mechs, I don’t think a truck with an open bed is all that far fetched. They were looting after all.
It may have been a “filler” episode, but I am really enjoying the “serialized” way they are doing it. This episode picked up right where it needed to and they ended on the path to the Book of Omens.
In this OS, the stand alone episodes were just that, they stood alone. I hope in the new series, the serialized story telling continues, makes it really feel like one big story, which is what it is supposed to be.
I wasn’t a fan of the Moby Dick reference, but I think it was a good way for Lion-O to calm down and focus. I don’t think it was too fast for Lion-O to change his tune. He was blinded with emotion at his father’s murder, plus he isn’t ready to be king all this is thrown at him at once, he wants revenge. But after seeing the effects of what revenge is doing he realizes it isn’t worth the lives of the fishpeople, and revenge destroys those seeking it (the Fishpeople captain). Sorry I haven’t remembered his name yet. There is a difference between revenge and justice.
Lion-O comes to his senses when he sees the crew going to drown and Lion-O questions the motive of seeking revenge on the Ramlak for the crew and the captain says he can get another crew, showing he, in fact, does not value his crew. Whereas, Lion-O (I assume) values his fellow Thundarians.
Hopefully, they find more survivors, and can set up a new settlement and rebuild.
We are only on episode 3, we have a lot of ?s to get answered and lots of background to get through and lots of story to tell, its going to be an epic journey.
I know I am stretching on this one, but the Fishpeople’s ship with that long tusk on the front of it made it look like a Narwhal, which in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, is what everyone thought was attacking ships, a giant Narwhal.
I think it’s a little too early to pronounce death on a show. Especially since it’s only the 3rd episode.

Pretty much, yeah. But it was a pretty good one, at least. Lion-O got a chance to see that obsession with revenge ultimately doesn’t do you any good. And we got a sense of team-building. Had it not been for the scene with Mumm-Ra, Grune and Jaga, however, there would have been almost nothing to connect it to the overarching story. Like you said, though, there’s going to be about 52 episodes in all. So that’ll give them plenty of time to tell their story.
I liked it. Had fun watching it. It don’t expect it to be anywhere near my favorite episode in the series though. Looking forward to the Petalars next week. Though I hope they get to some more “known” bad guys soon.

As you can probably tell, my own overall impressions were very positive, I was very impressed with how they handled both Lion-O’s development and the introduction of the Thunderkittens who I thought I was destined to hate but actually really evoked the spirit of the original characters!
I agree with those who say that there will almost certainly be future episodes of the show that will easily eclipse this episode, but IMO this episode is necessary to move the story arc further forward…plus, I guess I’m still just excited for new ThunderCats stories!
Anyway, hope you guys enjoy the review, and thanks for all the awesome and insightful comments so far!

That’s what I thought, too. What I thought was a little different this time was that now it appears to actually have some weight behind it; Lion-O’s ticked off. His civilization is all but dead and his father’s been murdered. And while it still sounds kind of arrogant when he says it, it also kind of carries a tone of, “We’re still here!” I’m sure word of the fall of Thundera has spread to other areas of Third Earth, so it would be natural for others to assume the Thunderians were all exterminated. So Lion-O’s declaration in a way now also serves as an “F you!” to that.
Back in the OS, it just came across as arrogant like you said, and petulant. And since no one on Third Earth in that version would have even known who the Thundercats were, Lion-O might as well have said he was the Sultan of Swat for all anyone knew. And even then it still would have been meaningless to them. So at least in this new version, there’s that chance that it would mean something to some people.
