Good point.
LOL! You think they wanted to lay to rest all the bad guy jokes about making Tygra a rug too? ![]()
My own personal theory is they chose white because they wanted us to see the smart-ass eyebrow of snark directed at Lion-O much better. ![]()

I only have one word to describe the difficult week long wait between episodes: WHISKERS!!!
(sorry for the cussing) ![]()
Okay thoughts on episode 3.
Was it filler, no I don’t think it was, it was stand alone but it was important to see where Lion-O was in his own mindset.
I really liked the idea behind the episode, it was a great concept to see Lion-O’s lust for vengence parralleled with Captain Ahab, oh sorry I mean Captain Toonar, hunt. Just such a shame the writing didn’t live up to the possibility to me. It had some great moments, like the funeral and pretty much everything to do with the young’ens, but saddly much of it missed the mark. Why were Tygra and Cheetara in the main plot at all, they weren’t used. It felt rushed, but with only twenty mins its hard to get the timing right, still not an excuse. Tygra’s motion sickness was good to see but is a clichee. Hopefully this is an exception not the norm.
Also, while I did love the scene, I don’t think they need Mumm-Ra and Grune in this episode, save that for episode four or maybe even five, let the stand alones, you know stand alone.
So true, Balgus82. Makes one wonder who Moby Dick copied?
Most likely Homer and the Illiad.
Achllies’s calling out of Hector to avenge his friend’s death is pretty classic stuff.
“So it was here that the lord of men Agamemnon angered me.
Still, we will let all this be a thing of the past, and for all our
sorrow beat down by force the anger deeply within us.
Now I shall go, to overtake that killer of a dear life,
Hektor; then I will accept my own death, at whatever
time Zeus wishes to bring it about, and the other immortals”
But there’s quite a few Bible stories that deal with vengence not being a good thing either.
I still say a comic book series would help flesh out the off screen moments that they couldn’t cover because of time restraints, like their journey to the sandsea through that jungle and Lion-O and Tygra armoring up, ect.
Any one else see a resemblance to Ma-Mutt in the little lantern object Mumm-Ra was holding?
And as for the intro: Why have an intro so soon? It would spoil Panthro joining back up with the crew, the Thundertank, etc. Things yet to be “revealed” on the new cartoon. I’d love to see one myself, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were added to the second season or in a later episode.
After watching Ramlak Rising for the second time, I enjoyed it much more. I want to see things like this on their journey – new characters, new situations. That’s what I enjoyed so much as a kid about the original!
Yeah, my brother brought that to my notice :). I hope he does appear, I liked him.
I only remember Safari Joe making the rug joke ![]()
Other bad guys called him “the striped one” though.
It kinda looked more like a cat than a dog to me.
To be perfectly honest…it reminded me of the Cave of Wonders in Aladdin. lol
At first glance I kind of dismissed it as some kind of creepy Gargoyle face, but seeing the episode a second time I kind of wondered if it was another one of those ‘nods.’ I’d much rather see Ma-Mutt as a character in the series as well.. but I do wonder if that was meant to resemble him. ._.
Just thinking how I’d have liked to see Hachiman as a warrior seeking revenge the same way Lion-O was. He could have taken him under his wing, taught him about swordsmanship and in the end proven how wrong revenge was, without having to be so Moby Dick and giving fans of the os a chance to see what he’d look like in the new series.
I have to say that I was a little disapointed after that first episode. This episode was very predictable and seemed like a waste to me. Having said that I still think its going to be a good series.
My only gripes are in the looks of some of the characters. I can’t stand the way Panthro looks even though he hasn’t appeared in the show yet. And something about Cheetara’s design seems off. It’s the black/brown stripe going down the front of her legs…just seems like a bad design choice. I think Lion-O looked fine in the premiere but I really can’t stand the one shoulder pad look. That needs to go, it’s too snake-armor He-Man. And finally that brings me to Snarf. I always hated him and thought he was annoying as a kid but at least he had a personality and occasionly served a purpose. This new Pokemon Snarf is completely useless. I mean, why even have him in the show?
Anyway, other than the actual look of these characters I am enjoing the show and hope episode 4 moves the story along and does something a little more original.
Artistic wise - my favorite scene in the episode was during the journey sequence of seeing or heroes on their long walk, I loved the art and lighting of the jungle like scene when we’re looking up at the backs of Kit and Kat’s heads as they walk. That scene was very graphically pleasing to me. ![]()
Watching it again, I like how Tygra’s expression lightens as soon as Lion-O says their destination is for the Book of Omens. Lion-O and Tygra both seem to be rather full of angst. He strikes me as though he may be more fatherly towards the kids. Wouldn’t that be funny if at the end of the series, he ends up adopting them?
I’ll be honest, I am not looking forward to seeing a love triangle between Lion-O, Cheetara, and Tygra. I fear it’s going to annoy the heck out of me.
Heh-heh, Lion-O and Tygra would be be feeling a bit angsty right now; they lost their father and their kingdom. And who strikes you as being the most fatherly toward Kat and Kit? Is it Tygra? ![]()
Oops, guess I didn’t make that very clear. Tygra seems somewhat fatherly. Or probably more like a fun uncle at this point. Someone who feels responsible for the kids but not placing the kinds of restrictions on them that a parent would to keep them out of danger.
Lion-O, on the other hand, is acting more like a jerky big brother who doesn’t want his little siblings tagging along.
I agree. Are they suppose to function like garters or something ? Does it have something to do with those weights on her ankles? Though Im not upset by it, I also think the main 3 looked better before they got outfit changes.
It makes sense though. Tygra, being an orphan and later adopted, would show more sympathy to the kittens’ situation, and maybe would act like a father to them because he has incorporated Claudus example (I like the idea of him adopting them by the end, maybe with Cheetara as their mom :D). Lion-o, in the other hand, has now the chance to be an older brother to the kittens, and I guess he might act just like Tygra acted towards him; I also think Lion-o doesn’t have Claudus model as incorporated as Tygra, who was always by his side, following him, so lion-o shouldn’t know that much about fatehrhood (not that Tygra does, but I think he got a better model through his life).
Also, Lion-o did look like a stupid ass to me this season. He didn’t act like a leader at all, but more of as a tyrant, following his own wishes and needs, guided by his thirst of revenge, rather than caring for his people. And confusing prudence (from Cheetara and Tygra) with some sort of cowarcy/softness. He needs so much to grow up. And even more, at the end he had an epiphany and saved the day and become the big hero? WTF? That was just so out of character IMO. It would have been better for the plot if Cheetara and/or Tygra rescued the crew and taught him what was important. I don’t like this idea of Lion-o doing all by himself, the idea is that he learns some lessons from the other. At least he apologized at the end.
Also, I liked how Tygra and Cheetara, but especially Tygra, followed his leadership without questioning it, although one can clearly notice he disagreed. It makes me see him not only as a loyal, upright man, but also humbl when he needs to. BUT I don’t want the producers to portrait him as nothing more than a rules-follower who can’t be assertive enough to make his own point worthy. And it seemed to me the brothers do share a feeling and an aim after all, is the way of trying to get it fulfilled which varies.
I’m glad that the kittens showed some of the cunning they had in the OS.
Oh, adn I just loved to see Grune’s chest holding Mumm-ra’s sign. That was a great detail.
But overall, I found the episode kind of “weak”.
I had another viewing of this episode last night and I still enjoyed it. The story did what it was supposed to with a few issues probably due to time restraints. I do wonder why they didn’t ride those Thunderian mounts instead of walking, though.
Maybe the animals were killed as well, ran away, or were taken by the lizard men.
