Well it wasn’t great but I really enjoyed it and it has peaked my interest to watch next weeks episode. Calling it crap is a bit harsh and considering the crap that is on TV today it was damn good. “Long live the New ThunderCats series!”
It was an okay episode. I personally never cared for “pirate-type” movies or shows. The beginning of the episode was good when they were in Thundera, but after that, it went down hill for a bit. Atleast the show picked up at the end.
One thing I have to add…exactly how much can those Thunderkittens eat? LOL
I must edit…yep, I’m one of the rare and few people that doesn’t care for Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Sorry, I don’t care for pirate movies, I find them boring. And seeing the chef feed the Thunderkittens food reminds me of that Simpsons Tree House of Horror episode where the aliens are feeding the Simpsons in order to fatten them up so they can eat the Simpsons.
They were the best thing out of this whole episode. It was like a mix of William Overgard and Moby Dick.
And after having Cheetara’s extreme boobage thrown in my face I can say with absolute certainty that she is the April O’Neil of the new millennium:p
I thought it was a nice followup to the premiere, albeit a bit lighthearted. The bit at the end was nice because it gives us anticipation for next week! ![]()
After seeing you mention that, it makes me look at some of the pics I have of 80’s April, and it makes me hopeful for some of the same of Cheetara. ![]()
No they’re not dirty!!
I wouldn’t consider it the best choice of episode coming off of the premiere, it by no means turns me off to the series. I am just excited for next weeks episode as I was for this weeks and for the premiere.
I think calling it horrible is a little extreme and judging this episode as the downfall of the series is a extreme as well.
I have a feeling nostalgia is coming into play here. Remember, the classic show included a planetary gyroscope as a plot device mind you. And ridiculousness like that tended to be the exception not the rule.
april o’neil was definitely a hottie haha. i kinda like that steam-punk lookin power boat they took off in at the end.
I agree with you. After the action and story packed premier this episode did seem to be a bit…hmm… “Bleh” but there’s gonna be eps like that. I like how it added a little more to characterization and it did set up some things for coming episodes.
Still looking forward to Friday’s ep! ![]()
You’re not the only one, Lynxie. For some reason the popularity of the POTC movies eludes me too. And you’re right, for a bunch of stories that had pirate skeletons, sea monsters, voodoo, Davy Jones and sailing off the edge of the world, it should have been awesome. But there was something about the characters and the way the scripts were written that never quite clicked with me.

I thought I detected a faint Overgardian stench over the whole thing. Only unlike an Overgard script, it was was halfway decent and didn’t make my brain hurt!
I thought not. Good book. BTW the line “I spit my last breath at thee” is from Moby Dick. Star Trek used the line that last Friday’s episode used. So what does that have to do with stuff? READ A FRIGGIN’ BOOK once in while. You’ll find all types of stuff borrowed, good or not so good.
That’s what I was trying to figure out. Someone said that Its based on Moby Dick and the quote was from Moby Dick, but somehow instead of copying Moby Dick they copied Star Trek instead. o.O
I mean don’t get me wrong. I understand that Star Trek also copied Moby Dick…but that doesn’t mean Thundercats copied Star Trek.
..I didnt think it was very good. It was predictable and boring; and my kids felt the same way. It was just really disappointing seeing a filler show this early in the series. Theres soo many characters (some we havent even see yet) with so many storylines that I had hoped there would be a little more substance in this one. Of course, last week was outstanding, so following that up would have been hard anyway.
…my 4 year old is still mad he hasnt seen Panthro yet! lol he thought ep3 was gonna be the one!
Finally got to see the episode, and in all honesty it was an alright episode. The music, however, was excellent. Things happened a little quickly, like Lion-O’s change in attitude towards going after Mumm-Ra or the Book. I wondered why he didn’t ask the captain about his pyramid or about taking him there. However, I must say that I appreciate the mature tone of the show.
O and the intro is horrible, it’s not even an intro; just a title card. They didn’t even bother to recycle the text animation from the trailer, instead they went with a simple fade in. The insignia animation was practically recycled from the old show and cropped for widescreen.
That was the first thing I thought about too.
Apparently Jaga knows where to find it but he didn’t tell claudus where it was. There’s something about it!
I also sensed a first reason for future conflict between Mumm-ra and Grune. The first one is after the book and the latter is after the sword.
This EP was saved by the end and the beginning. The pirate stuff in the middle was nice but I felt this episode came to early. I think there were more pressing stories to tell first.
But still, voice acting ,animation, music, atmosphere is still spot on. Just too bad for the filler story.
I’m wondering if it’s leading in to us finding out Claudis’s kingdom was not as unified as we once thought.
Add in did anyone else catch that Tygra’s got a lot more white on him than the OS? Tygra was a Bengal in the orginal. I’m wondering if they do plan to break the Tiger’s up in to Siberian vs Bengal races in this series. With one or the other having been a royal thorn in Claudis’s side?
And here’s something interesting-- Tygra was wearing armor simular to Claudis’s in that attack. The new green armor since Claudis’s death seems to be some visible sign he’s no longer a prince or something.

The joys of science fiction is it does referr to so much classic lit. ![]()
I think I learned more and went digging for more references after reading my ‘garbage’ (My English teacher’s words not mine) sci fi books than I ever did in my English lit classes.
Sadly I’m a bit ‘Meh’ at this episode as well. The start was beautiful. Kit playing her flute as we watch the older cats say goodbye to the king. Touching to see that they have some religon and gives us a bit of a inside look to the culture of the thundercats.
The kittens joining the questing party was cute as well, the mewling gave me cavities it was so sweet. Lion-os reaction was well uneeded really. Poor little orphans! I’m suprised Tygra didnt press harder for them seeing he too is a orphan.
Pirate ship stuff…bleh. Didnt like how they accepted the tech so easily. Didnt like how the moods changed on a dime. Meh.
Tygra seasick was great
Kittens being kittens was adorable
The end with Mumm-ra? OMG HE IS SO EVIL NOW! I LOVE IT! LOVE LOVE LOVE! He was always my second fav character, and at laaaast hes more then the bumbling ididot they made him second season…GAH my Mumm-ra <3
Yes, the new Tygra has more white, the new Tygra has more white on his face, which no tiger, bengal or siberian has that much white in the natural pattern and the new Tygra also has white on his neck, which both Siberian and Bengal have white on their necks going under to the bellies
I actually really noticed white on Tygra’s arms when he was whipping his whip around.
Siberians have more white on the front legs and paws than Bengals do. They gave Tygra white all the way up to the elbows in the new series. In the old series he didn’t have it.
The white on the face I figured was probably to help him stand out from the background and dark green uniform so you could see expressions better.
That, but the white face also makes him look less “cat like” like the rest of the main cast, without having his species colors on his face. They all look more “human” than the rest of the Thunderians
