"Omens" (special one-hour series premiere) - Official Talkback Thread! (CONTAINS SPOILERS!) :)

I finally watched it, and noticed some things.

  1. When Cheetara runs through the cats that are torturing the lizardmen, saying “Try to catch me”, that’s also a homage to the OS intro when she appears running among the mutants. That adds to Tygra saying “Now you see me, now you don’t” in honoring the OS.

  2. Cheetara and Tygra both kneel at Lion-O when Jaga is proclaiming him Lord of the TCs, that takes me to think that they both knew something by then. If not, why did they kneel? How disd they know they were suupposesd to do that?

  3. Not liking Lion-O that much, too much of a smarta*s IMO.

  4. When Cheetara revealed herself as a cleric, I think the one who says “Cheetara?” is actually Lion-O. The voice soudned more like him. The fact that they showed Tygra’s reaction first might be that he was surprised because of:
    a) he doesn’t think a female could be a good warrior and it amazed him,
    b) he recognized her as the one cleric he winked an eye earlier,
    c) he was as surprised as Lion-O to see the same person that helped them before was a cleric, or
    d) folowing the theory someone came up with, the both y knew each other from childhood and then they lost track of each other, amybe when Claudus adopted Tygra (of course Cheetara always knew what was of Tygra, being adopted by the king and all), and Tygra is surprised to see his old friend has become a cleric.

  5. I didn’t dislike Tygra as much as I thought I would. It did surprise me though that they showed no reaction from him neither when they found out Grune weas the traitor, nor when he killed Claudus, his father after all. Was he in shock? And even when he showed, over all, loyalty to Lion-O, I expect his character to grow some more and become more humble, but without liosng his coc-ky escense. And I think he should have some hidden talent, maybe the so much awaited mind powers, because he’s not showing anything yet (at least the OS Tygra was the archiotect and scientist of the group… what does this Tygra bring to the team?)

  6. Tygra can now swim very good!

  7. I like Wilykat’s look… Wilykit’s not that much.

  8. Was that lookout Thunderian Lynx-O? Nice to see him thias early in the show. Wonder if that’s when he lost his sight.

9: Mumm-ra got affected by the sun rays… is he some kind of vampiric creature now? Wouldn’t surprise me. Vampires are everywhere these days lol. But I don’t like the idea of him not being able to fight at daylight.

  1. The whole show seemed to MOTU IMO, with Lion-O being the untrusted one who will become king and yada yada… and a lot of SW too, with the clerics who resembled Jedi Knights. Sorry, but even when I liked the show, I’m taking 1 or 2 points out for klack of originality.

  2. How will Lion-O and Tygra’s relationship will be showcased now? Will they try to put themselves in the other’s place? I mean, will Tyghra try to understand the burden that Lion-O now carries with being the Lord of the TCs, right after losing his father? Will Lion-O try to understand Tygra’s feelings at the loss of his father, the desilussion with his hero, and the fact that he might have always felt that no matter what he did, he would never be the same as Lion-O to his father? Claudus told Lion-O he made him proud that day; did he ever tell that -with those words- to Tygra?

  3. Also, Grune told Tygra he reminded of him when he was younger. Would that affect Tygra’s psyche in some way and represent a conflict for him about his good or bad nature’ Kind of Harry Potter having something of Voldemort inside him?

  4. We already know that there’s going to be a Lion-O-Cheetara-Tygra love triangle but, is Cheetara allowed to fall in love being a cleric? If they’re like Jedi Knights, then she wouldn’t. Will that represent a conflict to her? Who will she choose? I hope Tygra.

Can’t wait to see how this all is going to end!

Even if Cheetara wasn’t allowed to fall in love (though I seriously doubt that’s the case) who would stop her? She’s the last Cleric and can do whatever she wants (just like Luke if you wanna compare to Jedi.)

So I finally got to see the entire one hour premiere, and it was AWESOME! I’m glad they added some new twists, but still kept some oldies in. Claudus was awesome, as was Jaga and the clerics. I think it’s cool we haven’t seen all of the mutants yet, which adds more excitement to when they finally do come into the storyline. I liked seeing Lynxo also even if only for a second. All I can say is that I am 100% satisfied, and can’t wait to see the new episodes on Fridays!

I’m not satisfied. I’m not satisfied at all.

… at least not until I can get the whole series on DVD so I can have one huge marathon. XD

I actually walked away feeling VERY sorry for Tygra.

Lord, imagine being stuck between Lion-O and Claudis 24/7?

Those two lions butting heads? Talk about being stuck between an immovable object and irrepressible force.

As for not showing any emotions, I thought that was pretty in character. Tygra never wore his emotions openly. He was a reserved observer by nature.

My favorite line in the whole premiere was from Tygra.

Lion-O: “You’re just so perfect aren’t you Tygra.”

Tygra: “Thank you Lion-O.”

He’s a snarky mofo this time around. lol

btw did anyone notice Grune’s face when Lion-O asked him about technology? He looked angry or annoyed. It was only a brief flash, but even then you could tell he was hiding something.

I was curious about the ratings for the premiere, and just saw them posted on ThunderCatsNOW. Sorry if this has been linked before:

Seems like it did pretty well!

http://www.thundercatslair.org/forums/showthread.php?t=7257

Saying I can’t read? Or search? Or do anything remotely constructive???

It’s all true! Sorry about that!

My favorite line was from Cheetara.

Lion-O - “You think I’m crazy don’t you?”

Cheetara - “I think you’re… Different.”

It looked to me like he was already blind – his pupils looked milky. Yes, he recognized the enemy, but of course we already know Lynx-O doesn’t need sight to hold his own.

Actually, if he shows up later in the series, it would fit nicely with the magic/technology tension in the new show. Lynx-O, after all, was the one who seemed to benefit most from it in the original series – successfully piloting an aircraft with the help of a Braille Board.

Yeah, but she has a hell of a lot more of it in the new series. I hate to bring the practicality argument into it, but you don’t see a lot of runners with D cups.

I don’t think the problem is so much “sexy cartoon women” as “all the cartoon women have the exact same physique and outfit”. Belly shirt, giant breasts, impossibly tiny waist. Old Cheetara was sexy but had an athletic physique, and I’d like to see more of that. Women can be beautiful whether tall, short, skinny, chubby, muscular, dressed scantily or conservatively.

(Tangentially, remember April’s first appearance on the 2003 TMNT series? She wore a belly shirt to work. With a lab coat over it. Again, I know it’s silly to worry about realism in something called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but really.)

And no, sorry, I’m going to have to call BS on your saying the show’s not for children. Yes, we’re watching it, but assuming we’re the target audience is the kind of hubris I’ve really grown tired of seeing in cartoon fandom. Yes, the writers, artists, producers, cast and crew are putting stuff in there for us, and I appreciate it – but as far as the network’s concerned, the purpose of this show is advertising and merchandising to 12-year-old boys. Which is probably a slightly older demographic than the original series, but it’s still a kids’ show.

And while I’m hardly Mr. Conservative and seldom resort to “Think of the children!” chest-thumping, I do think mass media portrayals of women create unreasonable standards of beauty, both for boys and girls. Again, the problem isn’t necessarily that a character is easy on the eyes, it’s that “easy on the eyes” is defined so narrowly.

I think they’ve got to give Tygra the ability to cast illusions to cloak himself and others.

Think about it.

They’re outcast now. Hunted by the various races and a very evil cranky mummy. Lion-O and Cheetara with their lighter coloring can blend in. Throw a cloak on and cover the ears and they might pass for something else.

Tygra? No way in hell. Being striped and orange-- he’s kind of going to stick out in just about every place they go. Heck, he stuck out in a city of other cat races. Unless they have plans to keep Tygra invisible everytime they pass a villiage or town. I think Tygra will allow them to walk freely by throwing an illusion around the group.

Just my opinion.

I’d been wondering why you’ve been so quiet.

Hadn’t thought of that.

What are you implying by “knew something?”

Aw, no, TR! The new Lion-O rocks!

I think so too.

I think it was your letter C, surprised that the girl who helped them out earlier was actually a cleric.

I would have liked to have seen him show emotion to Grune’s betrayal. Grune was his hero, after all.

The way he spoke in the jail cell to Lion-O when he was setting on the bed confuses me some. I hope he’s not just a flat character without feelings. I hope it’s just that he’s accustomed to burying sad feelings and not showing that kind of emotion. And that might be demonstrated in how angry he got at Lion-O when Lion-O told him about his vision. He’s really hurting deep down and at that moment, lashed out stronger than he might normally because of the emotion he was working to control.

Until the Safari Joe episode and then suddenly it will be discovered he can’t swim.

He was already blind. His words indicated that and when he opened his eyes, they were whited over indicating blindness.

It replaces his reflection being the thing he can’t stand. I like it actually.

I dunno. What do you mean “showcased?”

Maybe that was on his mind in the jail cell.

Wouldn’t it be interesting if this is an inner conflict for her? Would be interesting if she doesn’t end up with either of them because she chooses to live by the code of a cleric in being celebousy? I know I totally mispelled that word.

Me too!

Dude! Anakin Skywalker?! Darth Vader?! If she knows ANYTHING about her Star Wars history, she’ll know that the destruction of the Jedi started with Anakin’s choice to go his own way and marry instead of following the Jedi code. :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with you on that. I do like having my dvd sets and just being able to watch one after another.

Mine was from Lion-O after Tygra asked him when he was going to grow up.

“When I do, I hope I’m nothing like you.” And I loved Tygra’s response to that. So much like me and my oldest brother.

Didn’t notice.

I did like that one! I loved the nuances of her voice in the way she said it.

I am happy with her voice. I’m happy with all their voices except Wilykat’s, I never cared for the way the Charlie Brown kids sounded. Always sounded unrealistic to me for kids to sound that way. Anyway…

My point is that Luke married too, after he was the last Jedi, and he didn’t destroy the Jedi by doing it btw.

Anakin had more going against him than just getting married.

anyway… this isn’t a Star Wars forum. lol

As long as Tygra doesn’t go dark side, I’ll be happy.

That’d be because the show hasn’t aired in Latin America yet, but I found a site where they have the whole episode. You can’t watch more than 30 mins a day though, so I had to watch it in 2 days. Hopefully this week’s ep will be less than 30 mins as it’ll be a single ep

Not sure muself. They just knlt and then kept running, as if they had been prepared for this moment. Just an impression I had, but could be compleely out of place.

I’d have loved to see him displaying some emotion as well. Maybe you’re right and he’s a guy who keeps for himself. Hey! Maybe Cheetara helps him with that? Like you, I hope they don’t make him that flat the whole series.

LOL!

I meant how are they going to treat it now.

It would be great! She’s not only tore between 2 guys, but between her beliefs as well.

Me too. And Luke marrying Mary Jade is fans work, not the saga itself

It’s part of the official story, not fanfic.

LOL Did you mean Mara Jade or are you thinking Mary Sue?

Right, but it’s like saying Han and Leia then had twins Jacen and Jaina, and Anakin Solo… it’s official but at the same time it’s somehow out of it.

I knew I was getting it wrong somewhere lol

Spider-man? lol;)
