Well, maybe they used some kind of other cleaning agent made out of other compounds? maybe the basic formula for hand soap and the word for ‘soap’ in that particular languge was what was lost?
Or maybe, being cats, they just licked themselves clean. lol
I remember in The Spaceship beneath the Sands, Tygra and Cheetara got caught in that sticky net the mutants prepared. After they got rescued by Panthro and Lion-O, Cheetara was helping Tygra to get rid of that sticky net, rubbing and rinsing him with something that seemed a wet woolen cloth. I guessTygra (and Cheetara ) could have taken a bath with some soap or something similar to get rid of it
I was always under the impression that Thundercats took place in our future as well.
So what we’re seeing is the kingdom of Thundera on Third Earth, which means Claudus and his people are descendants of Thunderian immigrants? That would make a lot more sense than the destruction/reconstruction of the planet Thundera – unless the Thunderians are actually native to Third Earth, which would also eliminate the “Thundera blows up” plotline. ![]()
There’s something else I noted when I again watched the teaser for the new series. The mural shows Claudus leading a Thunderian army against an army of lizard warriors headed by Mumm-Ra, as if they were two rival kings fighting for a throne. I wonder if this is a major theme for the new cartoon: A good king (Claudus) battling an evil king (Mumm-Ra)? That would explain the shackled lizards in the teaser; they could be prisoners of war. And Grune standing on top of that cart the lizards were pulling, loaded with giant yellow crystals. Are those the Stones of Power that Lion-O must search for? ![]()
While reading that first quote, it mentions the Kingdom of Thundera - now, I’m split on the idea that everything was always on Third Earth - but reading that doesn’t rule out the possibility that there WAS still a Thundera planet.
Maybe they’re just changing the history a bit - rather than like in the original, Thundera never re-formed - it would make sense to me that the Thundercats would eventually create their own Kingdom of Thundera, the refugees in space just making their way to Third Earth instead of New Thundera.
It’s all just speculation, but I wouldn’t be so quick to assume there isn’t still an Exodus story in the Thundercats history.
Gradually it is becoming as clear as crystal that the chain of events of the original cartoon won’t be considered at all. The most important incidents which took place in the old scenario are completely alienated here. If we keep comparing and trying to find possible ties we will be rather disappointed..
We can’t say now if the New scenario, which has altered almost everything, is going to be equally intriguing. But it is a fact that the trailer revealed some very interesting points.
Thundera looks (beginning of the WonderCon trailer) like it is in an enclosed area of Third Earth. So in essence, you could imagine it being it’s own mini planet confined with walls.
Sorry guys, I not only like this idea…I LOVE it. It’s smart, logical, and opens up new opportunities for the series to go.
So if we forget about the original, where Mumm-ra was living in Third Earth for many centuries ago before the Thundercats arrived, were they aware of the Evil Wizard’s presence? And i am curious to see if this big chunk of rock Grune is standing on top has anything to do with Thundranium!
i still think that yellow crystal rock thing could be a cocoon or something Mumm-Ra’s trapped in and that Grune is attempting to free him or something.
Wow, I’m underwhelmed. This goes one step further than CBS did with Hawaii Five-O. Discard everything but the names and cash in on the built in audience. At least Five-O keep Hawaii as their location.
This idea makes me think of the concept in used in Logan’s Run. A society kept in an enclosed space while the rest of the world was in ruins from a nuclear war. I wonder if people in the kingdom of thundera get to live past the age of 30. Sorry gang, I’m not impressed. I will watch, but I’m not going to count on much. Hope I’m wrong.
But the rest of the world is living and breathing with inhabitats not familiar with the people living in Thundera. Doesn’t that kind of remind you of the original, in that the concept which is Thundera is destroyed and the remaining ThunderCats (royal) must discover and encounter places and creatures that they never knew existed?
I’m not trying to make you change your mind…I respect your opinion, but I don’t get where the idea that the new series is only carrying on the names? Lion-O is going to grow throughout the series, learn lessons the same way the original series Lion-O did, just without the adult body. Along with him will be his companions Cheetara and Tygra, who will help him develop and become the future Lord of the ThunderCats.
That sounds very familiar to me! ![]()
I’m sorry everybody, but I like this idea too. It’s makes all the anthros come from 1 planet instead of 3 (thus streamlining the story), gets rid of the stupid Superman knock-off origin, and gets rid of the idiotic concept of a planet re-forming because of mum-ra magic and a big gyroscope (ugh!). Sometimes change is a good thing!
Exactly! They can still keep the rebuilding of Thundera in the new series without having to make some poorly written story about a planet reforming. Jump the shark anyone?
But yeah, I think it just makes sense. Remove the layer of the original series that we are using to compare this new series to and look at the bigger picture – because the new series is very similar if we just eliminate the fatty layer! LOL What the heck am I talking about! ![]()
The fact that the New Series is taking its own course, deviating from the 80s cartoon doesn’t entail the original scenario was an ‘idiotic concept’! How can you say that!!, there were many benefits by dividing the story into three planets and many things made sense helping the story to unfold in various directions, whereas now crucial issues are left to be answered and i really hope the cast of writers has been doing a good job, otherwise the plot will have serious gaps.

How come Mumm-ra and Thundercats were living in the same planet but never faced each other?
-
Ok, This one ‘Empire stood above all others’ i buy it but i hope the writers won’t overdo it! i mean we are still talking about a planet, not an entire galaxy!
-
The possibilities of Lion-o forming his Thundercats team, in the way we all dream and desire, is diminished since there are always going to be other Thunderians nearby. The strong bonding between the Thundercats’ members was very well emphasized at the original since they had to work closely in order to repel any threats at an unknown planet where they were on their own. Now this ‘solitary’ feeling can’t be so easily stressed here.
-
I really hope the fantasy element in the new series(which so far seems to be pretty eminent) isn’t played up to the detriment of the sci-fi aspect…
-
If the scenario turns out to be, the Bad guys have wiped out the Good guys and Lion-o is coming back to avenge his murdered father and free his enslaved people then it sounds very stereotyped…
6.Most likely the kingdom of Thundera will become the Empire of Mutants ruled by the Evil Mumm-ra, Lion-o will be considered dead and he will return many years later, once he practices the mystic power of the sword of omens, to reclaim his Thundera. This is were the first concept art, depicting Lion-o older and wilder fit to!! The negative part with this scenario, it is very predictable and doesn’t have the originality factor that each episode of the old series had,you couldn’t tell what enemy or danger will come forward on each episode in the 80s cartoon, especially during Season 1, there was a constant feeling that unexpected things will take place and wasn’t aware of what will happen the next day . Now there is a central plot where everything will revolve around that and a continuity driven story. I am not implying it is bad but i see it expanding in a few seasons only.
You’ll be pleased to know that at the Wondercon panel the show was confirmed to be 50/50 sci fi and fantasy ![]()
And i believe it!! Besides, there isn’t much to be said relying merely on a 2:13 min. Trailer.
I am not opposing to the New series. i am just trying see the other side of the coin.
The only thing given for granted, which we, the hardcore Thundercats fans, should slowly start realizing and let in it sink in, is that the Old will have almost nothing in common with the New. so any comparisons will be to no avail.
Per your #5 and #6, have you seen (sarcasm) a little known (/sarcasm) movie called “The Lion King”? It was a movie made back in the early 1990’s I believe. It’s about a Lion that was killed by his brother, and his only son was believed to have been killed too. After several years the son returned to reclaim his rightful place as king of the pride and to avenge his father’s murder. Yeah, that story has been done once or twice already…
I too feel that having multiple planets made the story better, not worse. Crash landing on an alien planet allows for random stories about exploring the unknown. Characters from multiple planets results in no need to explain how such different (intelligent) creatures are native to the same planet.
If the biggest problem with having ThunDera as a planet was the reforming of it, there are other alternatives. They could have made a New ThunDera like the planet of Snarfs; find out most other ThunDerian refugees made it to another planet that was uninhabited and make that “New ThunDera”. The original had that option built in. The ThunderCat convoy leaving ThunDera had a planet picked out to evacuate to. But after the Mutant attack, they were unable to get there. They could have made the story change from reforming ThunDera to getting the resources to make it to the original destination. Just saying they didn’t have to scrap the entire backstory to avoid reforming ThunDera.
Personally, I reforming ThunDera did seem a bit unrealistic. But not anymore than a 5,000+ year old mummy plotting global domination by transforming into anything he wants with unlimited power, but can be defeated by his own reflection…
I can only reply to some opf your points ![]()

Mumm-Ra and the Tcs could have perfectly lived in the same planet, without facing each other before, simply because planets are big lol. Or have you faced every man and woman on Earth?

-
I don’t like the one empire above the others thing either.
-
In the old series, the bond between the TCs, which was shown to strong in the beginning, wasn’t that much at the end IMO. People who have bonded that much don’t leave 2 of tehir members in a strange planet, each one alone in a different building to take care of them on their own, not being abkle to share with teh others and not being able to live in their own homeworld, while the other 7 members are happy together there.
About this, there was something that always intrigued me. In the last episode of season 3, Mumm-Ra destroyed the Tower of Omens, but in the first one of season 4, Tygra was left there while Pumyra was in Cats Lair. Two things: if the tower was destroyed, wouldn’t it have been better if both Tygra and Pumyra stayed in Cats Lair; at least that way they wouldn’t be so lonely. Also, if we assume they rebuilt the tower (with no sense at all since there were no more Lunatacks and Mutants), wouldn’t it have been more logic that Pumyra stayed there and Tygra in the Lair… I mean, those were the buildings they lived ususally and knew them perfectly well, why changing them later?
I respect all of the other fans of the old series’s opinions, but yes, even back when I was ten I thought the concept of Mum-ra restoring his arch enimies entire planet just to get the sword of Plun-darr was idiotic- that’s when I stopped watching the show, and did not see the rest of the series until I watched it on DVD years later. If he had the power to restore an entire planet, he could have used that magic to retrieve the sword another way. Heck, if he’s that powerful, it’s already streacting belivability that he can’t easily crushed the T-cats when they first showed up!
And no, I did not find the fact they came from three diffrent planets more ‘epic’. I found it ridiculous that Anthros based on earth animals came from three diffrent planets that were very loosely connected- when I was younger I even wrote fanfic that had the T-cats and mutants ancestors originally coming from earth and settling Thundera and Plun-darr to make it make sense.
And as for the scope of the story… is anyone actually thinking about how big a planet actually IS? How many diffrent cultures, civilizations, and groups you can have on a single planet like third earth? I think Star Wars has put most Sci-fi fans under the mentality that each planet has ONE group of people, ONE culture, and that’s it. That concept is just so… ugh!
And as for Mum-ra existing on the same planet as the T-cats, if the mural in the first trailer is any indication, he HAS faced them before, and probably got his tail kicked in. Which gives Mum-ra a good reson for aiding in the destruction of thundera, and seeking to destroy Lion-o’s group before they can aquire the ‘stones of power’.
And also, as to the idea of them being aliens on third earth, being strangers in a strange land… there still using that, Thundera has been and isolated kingdom for centuries, and the Cats are going out into a world they know nothing about… Panthro will have to be there guide in this brave new world. And with the other Tunderians enslaved back in thundera, they ARE alone out there! Compare it to the European explorers of the Sixteeth century, who came to the New World. They knew nothing of the Americas, of the cultures and civilizations that existed here, and so coming to these new Continents for them was LIKE THEY HAD STEPPED ONTO ANOTHER PLANET!
