I’m posting for the first time here to relate my enjoyment of Cheetara and the show as a whole, but mostly Cheetara. I can’t say she’s my favorite because Panthro exists, but I look forward to seeing her on screen more than any character. I love her design and her animation. Her character is nothing to shake a stick at either. It’s undeveloped, sure, but the bits we’ve seen show’s a personality largely free of great distractions or fixations. She knows her job, but she doesn’t know everything. She’s not the all knowing adviser, but she’ll protect and support her king and her team.
I see so much potential in Cheetara. It would be a real pity if we didn’t get to see it realized. I think this show so far as been inexcusably unfair to her. She’s become boring and too predictable. We have not seen much past the hot warrior chick with Obi Wan influences. Someone in the fandom called her a wisdom speaking totem pole with breast, 13 episodes deep and I shudder at how accurate that is.
The most of her scarce screen time has been devoted to fueling this love triangle. Almost all of her dialog was about her faith in Lion-O and unfortunately it made her seem one dimensional and bland. Her personality is much to generic and stock. I’m hoping the settling of the triangle means we can get passed this and really give her some traits that in combination with other traits, make her stand out . I WANT to see her become a favorite of many! She needs something more so more fans can feel connected to her. I wonder, if she was out of the show would more cry because they were upset to see her go, or ticked because of nostalgia and loyalty to the OS? Do we need someone with a Joss Whedon angle to write her episodes/dialog?
She has no real faults. Everyone including the twins have some sort of fault in them. Some could say her unwavering support and inability to constructively criticize Lion-O as one, but I think that intended to be a plus. Being able to fight in an action show is not a character plus, its just more stock.
Into the Astral Plane and Between Brothers were the most Cheetara packed episodes, but she still failed to be the focus. More then anything those episodes displayed Tygra’s feelings about her and their origin. Danggit, I love Tygra but the Cleric origin should have been Cheetara’s story:( I found the Astrid story romantic, but it takes a little away from her and adds to Tygra. We get to see Tygra’s more compassionate side, but it took away from Cheetara’s resolve to be a Cleric. She was almost ready to give up on her biggest dream until one of her better developed male cast mates helped her out. I’m not saying that’s wrong. I think its sweet and pulls at my heart strings but because of her lack of development outside of a couple of repetitive themes, she has no character. Now if this was about 15 years ago, and she was being written this way, I would have already lost hope. That IMO is the source of the lack on interest or actual distaste many NS fans have for her. She’s falling flat.
I have hope though. I’m pretty sure the next episode is going to be a Cheetara episode. I have a really strong feeling its going to develop her sixth sense. My prediction is she had a feeling something was about to happen in Thundera, something bad. That could be a logical for reason for her following the heir to the throne around. Well makes more sense then her having a crush on him and following him because of it;)
Once again, I watched like 3 reruns of the OS when I was younger but is it true Cheetara struggled with her sixth sense because she was afraid others would find her crazy? Would love to see that here. Cheetara is confident, she’s just less jerky about it then Tygra:D Her being shaken by her own gifts would be an intersting plot point that could make her more real to fans.
Thats a brife rundown on my thoughts and feelings so far about THE thundercat female. I cant wait to be able to come back here with new interesting bits and pieces about our favorite spotty feline:thumbsup:
I think Cheetara’s biggest flaw now is her not thinking of herself enough. She’s thrown into her duty as the last of the clerics and that’s all. So basically, her being a wisdom speaking totem pole is a flaw, she’ll have to speak for herself more.
Her sixth sense and her potential shame from it would really force her into a personal situation. She needs to be more personal with the team, and Lion-O especially, because despite that many people (sometimes vehemently) disagree, she’s been to professional with him. She needs to stop being such a Cleric with him and treat him like the guy he is.
Not that Cheetara wouldn’t genuinely believe in Lion-O, she just needs to get to know him past the sword and his being “different”. She really needs to get to know everyone better, and everyone needs to get to know everyone better. Then again, I’m pretty sure everyone knows what a badass Panthro is, especially the now what with the no arms and the “any sacrifice” deal.
I also believe she feels Lion-O has what it takes on the inside. I think I like where you’re coming from with the personal angle. She needs to be more willing to see that Lion-O as of now is not ready to lead, and needs more of his men CONSTRUCTIVELY telling him why he should do something this way or whatever. There is a running gag that Lion-O has one stupid plan after another, yet we have 5 other characters who follow that stupid plan. Heck,at least he’s being proactive. The others are just following blindly. Cheetara sees the great potential in Lion-O, so much that it blinds her to how unready he is at this moment. The last 13 episodes have not convinced me of any growth on Lion-O’s part. I’m still fighting to see it. I’m hoping 14-26 is the pay off:thumbsup:
I really really hope they go the OS angle with her sixth sense and show her struggling with it .

Chetara’s sixth sense played a pivotal role in the original series, it is adamant that her unique ability be present in the New Series as well but in a more drastic way. It could add a metaphysical aspect in the whole story, The same goes for Tygra’s latent mind-power. I like Cheetara’s position as a part of the Clerics, also she supported Lion-o from the outset, sticking up for him when the rest of the team cast shadows of doubt. It’s very interesting to see how Lion-O will react now after watching Cheetara hugging and kissing his brother.
I am definitely looking forward to how things will be different after this revelation.
I agree in that I’m looking forward for the sixth sense and the mind powers.
Do producers read these boards? It’d be nice iof they knew what fans expect.
Hmm, interesting. I actually thought that the focus there was on Cheetara. More time spent with her than with Tygra. And I really didn’t think it took anything away from her resolve to accept help when it was offered and needed. She could have been proud, refused his help, and never reached her goal, but no, she succeeded. That the girl made it that far on her own without any support prior spoke volumes to me already. And for a complete stranger to offer encouragement, even if he had his doubts about her being able to achieve her goal, as you said that was touching; and it resonated with her. The rest of their past together is a mystery until now, but apparently Tygra hadn’t the same amount of fondness looking back on that memory. That was his first meeting with her, and by the end of it, he felt perhaps she didn’t view him of import.
-Although, her statement “Stealth was you greatest strength”, made me think that she’s been keeping tabs on the boy and known precisely what he’s been up to over the years. That’s how I understood that sentence.
I, like Chique, agree wholeheartedly that this is a problem for her. I don’t know if it’s because of the perspective we’ve been given, but there hadn’t been much shown of her creating bonds with her new crew. It could be the cause of her horribly mixed signals being sent, or trying to take on emotional role in the group that she’s not prepared for. As much as I love the idea of her and Tygra, I imagine some bumpy roads ahead for those two. Which is normal, and I bet it would be hilarious (in that ironic way) at times, but we’ll never see it.
Im not upset or bothered that she accepted it. I was a little ( very little) upset that she was about to give up. Tygra is partly responsible for her clericy. She was about to call it a day, but because of his gift she was able to stick it out. Honestly if we were given even one Cheetara story that had nothing to do with this love triangle, then it wouldn’t bother me. It really doesn’t bother me now, but I was trying to make a point. If this theme that they have continues ( I doubt it will) with all of her important story lines leading back to Tygra or Lion-O, I would be concerned about her active presence in this story. IMO, she’s really flat right now. Very stock and stereotypical.
+1 on the second part. She has no strong or developed bounds with anyone, not even Lion-O. Romantic or not, for the CheeTygra relationship to have what I would call “good” development we should have gotten some sort of conversation between the two. Once again this doesn’t have to look remotely romantic for it to be developed. Some sort of mutual understanding or some sort of bound that is seemingly beneficial to the both of them. My little shipper heart hopes to see that develop soon. Even with Lion-O, her relationship is weak. It’s always about her giving him the confidence to what he needs to. Always. Once again how has this been beneficial to her?
I see the potential for ALL of the characters to develop strong relationships with all of their friends. I’m just waiting to see the crew take the opportunity. Which may never happen. The OS was all about Lion-O too. Which sucks for me because Lion-O is not my first or second favorite character, LOL.
@ Chique : Ok, I get you. Sorry if I came off kinda pushy. I know this isn’t true for you, but I’ve seen that comment be used as reasons why she should’ve chosen Lion-O :rolleyes:. We’re just wanting more Cheetara, unrelated to the boys if at all possible. Perhaps they could start that with showing more or her relationship with Jaga? Since they already have…and then segue into maybe an incomplete part of her training (sixth sense)?
You know what would be awesome?! If at some point, both the boys were incapacitated (captured and snarking at each other naturally) and Cheetara and co had to save the day- minus the SoO. Dude…:eek:…
she was there day after day after day with no food. eventually it would’ve been give up or die if Tygra hadn’t given her the flower. remember she was still a kid. I don’t think kids can go as long without food as adults can.
I don’t see Cheetara’s near failure as diminishing at all. She didn’t fail, of course, and that moment was crucial to her growth. She had no where and no one to go to. I can assume from that fact that she didn’t have the kindest of childhoods. With Jaga dismissing her everyday and no one paying her any attention, she may well have been resigned to the fact that these people, the clerics, weren’t a place for her to go either. She was about to resign herself to living alone as she had been. However, a little kindness can go a long way, as they say, and having someone believe in you can push you ten times farther then when you’re on your own. Aside from the nutritious value of the flower, of course.
Basically, I think the gift gave her confidence in the kindness of others when she was about to resign herself to the coldness show to her by Jaga’s test. Hey, people aren’t so bad, huh?
I was watching last weeks rerun (the Petalars), and paid close attention to the campfire scene between Lion-O and Cheetara. I may be one of the few that didn’t see that scene as her leading him on. She was trying to be reassuring and supportive. She didn’t give him a “come hither” look either.
I also can’t wait to see Lion-O’s reaction to the kiss when the new episodes start. Maybe Lion-O will surprise and take it like a man. I don’t believe Cheetara has those kinds of feelings for him. A strong feeling of friendship, yes, but not romantic.
I think Cheetara is extremely loyal to Lion-O. There is a theory floating around that she , as a cleric, is in tune with the sword. Just like the sword knows Lion-O has what it takes, it also encourages the near blind faith Cheetara has in Lion-O. That and we all know she’s got some sort of sixth sense or intuition.
If my theory holds any truth, then I wouldn’t be surprised if she was confused because of it.
The campfire cast sexy shadows though! It made them look like they were about to hither to and fro. It seemed romantic to Lion-O, and some viewers were so misled by this misleading tactic that they believe that Cheetara was going in for a smooch, even though you can see by re-watching the scene that she doesn’t. The fact that the animation doesn’t show such a move becomes subjective in the seductive light of the campfire.
I don’t dislike any pairing here, I just don’t like the cries of “Cheetara’s a tease!” and “She was leading him on!”
every body has their opinion of that scene and mine are that it was meant to lead liono on. i think the writers wasted unnecessary time trying to mislead the viewers with this love triangle. they spent way too much time building up the vague romantic interaction between liono/cheetara just to have her choose tygra to prove to the viewers that the main protagonist doesn’t always get the girl. to have that as a cliffhanger for next season kind of makes me think negatively about the direction this show is going. this love triangle through out the season became the main focus of the story and mumra, the stones, book of omens and anything concerning their quest became almost a subplot. the season finale could have been so much better than this mediocre finale they gave us. i was hoping they would have had tygra betray liono and take the stone for himself and gain some kind of power from it. i believe that would have added more depth to his character and the story. instead the chose to play it safe and have tygra not evolve as a major character. tygra’s character had so much potential and if they writers kept exploring the darkness within him, he would have stoodout from the rest of the thundercats. for next season he’s pretty much gonna ride the backseat again.
The writers did have the intention to have Lion-O misinterpret Cheetara. The love triangle was a sub-plot they intended to play out. If you are of the opinion that the main plot took a back seat to that sub plot you may want consider how much weight you give the few moments of romantic rivalry. The plot has carried on from point to point. It wasn’t until Tygra decided to enter the Astral Plane out of jealousy that any action taken was motivated by some romantic notion. Even then, it was just another thing for Tygra to be bitter about.
As far as how Tygra’s character develops, any thoughts are interesting to consider. I didn’t want Tygra to betray Lion-O at any point. Ultimately, Tygra is one of the good guys. His jealousies were cumulatively petty compared to his loyalty. This makes him admirable, while if he had let his squabbles push him far enough to turn from his kingdom and family into the hands of the evil force that destroyed both…that’s just the most pathetic and despicable character. It would show that all he really wanted was the power and not the recognition or respect of the people he was loyal to. Tygra’s character shouldn’t have develop so poorly to be important.
How has the love triangle been given more focus than the other plots? The fandom chose to ignore the other aspects of the show and instead focus on the love triangle. That has nothing to do with the way the shows been written. I dont think Tygra and Cheetara was written to prove the hero doesn’t always get the girl. I think everyone has been in Lion-O’s shoes before. When you like someone, everything they do seems like it was romantically inclined. Every look, smile, touch or gesture. This is why speaking up on your feelings is important. Lion-O cant be mislead, because he never asked her how she felt.
Lion-O and Cheetara dont have some solid etablished relationship. The only time we saw them interact was when Lion-O needed support or encouragement. To some, that looked like it was being set up for Lion-O to misread her.
How does evil= evolution? That’s just a change in direction. Beside, Mumm-Ra is the big bad. Tygra would have been playing back seat to him.
Tygra does not need to be evil to gain depth. He gained depth when he chose to help his brother instead of giving into his desire to rule. He fought his own selfish wants, and chose to remain by his brother’s side. We all know he had the opportunity to end Lion-O. He chose not to. That adds depth and growth to his character. Fighting your own inner demons for the sake of those you love, takes will power. It gave what some thought was a shifty character, a definite stance.
I think some people may have gotten too hyped over the darkness thing. No one said he was evil. Just that he had a darkness in him. The darkness was his jealousy and insecurities. They were beginning to eat away at him, and he was forced to finally make a choice.
I feel like the writers took a chance with Tygra. He’s not the run of the mill side kick. He was not 100% behind Lion-O. They did not have some strong buddy buddy relationship.
I think they made him relatable. Some writers like to make their characters too “good”. They have no real fault about them. I think this is silly. Everyone has a something inside of them, that may not be as pretty as they’d like it to be. And thats ok. Thats normal, it doesn’t make you a bad person. I think they accomplished sending this message to the audience. Having natural human emotions do not make you evil or bad. It makes you human.
I would be proud to know the little ones I love look up to Tygra. That they know its ok to have those feelings and desires. What makes you great is your willingness to fight them.
