i think every character in this series is relate able in certain way. im not necessarily saying a character needs to be evil to gain depth. it’s just that i liked the betrayal angle approach the writers were taking tygra’s character. it would have added a new layer to the story if they had tygra betray lion in the AP. i know most OS fans probably didn’t like the change in the NS tygra but a few of us liked it. the thing is, tygra may have chose to be by his little brother’s side but it still doesn’t change the way he feels about him. as far as im concerned, their fight in the astral plane didn’t solve anything and if i remember clearly, they never came to a resolution with their feelings due to the interrupted by mumra. the reason i say this is because if he is gonna be by his brother’s side and still be jealous of what he thinks liono has, then his character hasn’t grown.
If he has finally decided to let go some of the anger and resentment he has towards Lion-O (which I think was the entire purpose of the episode ) then that is growth. How is that NOT growth?
I still think the fake sword disappearing at that moment was suppose to be symbolic and metaphorical. Tygra was coming to terms with his position in life. He would never betray Lion-O. So he no longer felt the need for the sword, or the crown. Thus it became useless bait .
Really if the writers don’t show some sort of change in Tygra’s character and his position with Lion-O, then that’s just irresponsible. It would have been a waist of 22 minuets.
I’m not saying its going to be roses and butterflies. But no change? Then was was the point of the last episode?

well to bring it back to Cheetara while considering your Tygra post, I believe her choosing Tygra will be a good thing for him. Like you said he let go of the sword in the astral plane. and Cheetara is sure to be a calming force of reason to him in regards to Lion-O. She’ll be a good influence on him.
if that is what it takes for tygra’s character to stop feeling the way he does towards liono, then that to me is bad writing. i think the writers need to make an episode where liono and tygra really really hash it out with no interruptions and come to some kind of understanding.

Lion-O and Tygra came to that understanding after their knock-down drag-out. It was foundational and, if the writers do what it looks like they will, the audience will see the brothers’ relationship challenged in ways that take advantage of that new understanding.
With that said, Cheetara’s potential influence on Tygra will be key to his character arc. Women are a powerful and tremendously motivating force for men. How a man reacts/responds to that force tells you if he’s worth his salt. We’ve see a good measure of it from Tygra already when he thought Cheetara chose Lion-o. It will be interesting to see where the writers take that relationship.
I understood at the time that Tygra and Lion-O had made peace with each other in the Astral Plane. The petty jealousy over the sword/crown is over, and Cheetara was not there. The very situations that are so ambiguous to many (here I’ll include the last couple of minutes in EP13) are pretty straightforward to me.
At least, I don’t need that much analysis or explanations in black and white, considering I watch the show with my kids I usually conclude the same as they do.
We shall be proven right / wrong / none of the above in the upcoming eps.
The creators said that Cheetara is proficient in combat and magic. What kind of skills would she have. Her speed is part natural and part cleric magic, but what else would be cool for her to do?
well we already saw her grow roots from her staff, so she can make plants grow. and Jaga used electricity in the premiere to take down those mechas, so she could be able to learn to do that.
^ I thought the staff itself held that magic. It would be great if she shot lightning bolts!
you could be right about that. But I doubt the other Thundercats can do that with the staff. I think she’s the only one that can use it like that. also even before she got that staff she could make the old one shrink and grow.

I’m new to the boards, but have lurked as a guest for awhile. I’m a bit behind, but just got to see Curse of Ratilla. Have to give Cheetara high marks for this one!! This was the first time we get to see the potential of her magic. If she is able to break Jaga’s curse, she’s got to be fairly powerful. And it would be so cool to see her use the sword of omens as Jaga did! Hoping to see her in more episodes like this one.
…And here’s hoping my girl perks up.
I’m really hoping that Cheetara and Lion-O will repair their relationship.
I just watched Book 2 on DVD. Cheetara and Lion-O barely spoke to each other after Lion-O nearly sacrificed Tygra in New Alliances.
Edit: But it was clear that she still cared about and worried about Lion-O a great deal (The Pit), and tried to have his back (New Alliances, Curse of Ratilla).
It wasn’t clear to me why she didn’t provide the protection and support in the final scenes. She really is a great character, and deserves to be explored better. I definitely want to see her recapture and grow her role as cleric in season 2.
(And I hope the Cheetara fans come back to this board.) Or, I can just make this a blog…

Hello, Cheetariffic, and I must say I agree with your concern for Cheetara. Cheetara’s relationship with Lion-O is somewhat strained with only providing a few sentences in conversations. She does care for Lion-O but not in the same cleric way. I’m guessing, the reason why she didn’t provide protection for him was because of Tygra.

i personally think the romance part of her development destroyed her overall character development. after the triangle thing, she was never relevant to the plot anymore. it was such as waste of great character such as Cheetara. i was just imagining what a Cheetara centric episode would have been like if she had one, especially with her special abilities.
