Cartoon Network ThunderCats Trailer

As were on the topic of Jaga…Slithor, Grune, do u think the other Tcats could see jaga in his ghost form? or was it only Lion-O who could see him?

I know they could see him in ‘ghost warrior’ when he fought Grune but it seemed inconsistent other than that. e.g. Lion-o saying something like “Jaga just told me..” and another instance when Jaga finished talking and tygra says “well thats decided then…”

Confused.com! lol

The incident in Ghost Warrior (which I re-watched last night) may be explainable because Lion-O actually summoned Jaga with the sword the same way he summons the other Thundercats to where he is when in need. Of course you know their eyes always signaled this by briefly flashing a bright yellow color. Perhaps while in some sort of state brought on by the Eye of Thundera and because Jaga was summoned this time by Lion-O they were able to see him. In general though from my recollection they were unable to see him as Lion-O did.

On a totally different topic, and something to think about, we don’t actually know that Thundera is going to explode. We just assume this because we have seen the trailer, and know from Jelenic’s interviews that the show will take place on Third Earth at some point. Its entirely possible that Lion-O, Cheetara, and Tygra are somehow and for some reason exiled to Third Earth with no way to return or communicate back, but not because of the destruction of Thundera. Maybe this has to do with the ‘revolt’ that some people are speculating on, but I’m not so sure it is a revolt that those scenes show. I’m going to have to re-watch the trailer again to see if that seems to be the case.

I like this idea!! Taking a point some1 made form another thread, could it be that Lion-O and Claudius are fighting for real in the trailer, not training? Claudius banishes Lion-O and rather than Tygra stick around to replace him as the new ‘lord to be’ nobly turns down that oppertunity to follow and protect his younger brother in their new home on 3rd earth!!
Not sure where cheatarah comes into it tho!! Tygra’s girlfriend?? :stuck_out_tongue:

I remember in one episode Snarf sees Jaga appear to Lion-O…I think it’s either Sword in a Hole or Garden of Delights…(definately an ep where Lion-O, Panthro and Snarf are locked up together…

However that might be because of Snarf’s closeness to Lion-O. So only Lion-O and Snarf can see him. I believe in a later series episode, Snarfer could hear Jaga, but not see him. That was The Last Day I think.

I think that, besides Ghost Warrior, they couldn’t. Lion-O always explained what Jaga told him, or the others asked him “why did Jaga tell you?” when they saw Lion-O talking to Jaga.

Hmmm I still agree with blackiecats tho that there were some episodes it seemed other saw/heard him.
TBH probably just another 1 of those really silly incosistencies tht plagued the series! lol

Like Grune, I also always believed that only Lion-O could see Jaga, excepting in special cricumstances such as in “Ghost Warrior” that Grune pointed out.

I wish, though, that the show could have played that up more, in that Lion-O would have feared saying anything about seeing visions of Jaga lest the other Thundercats think he was crazy. Or just getting funny looks if they happened to see him apparently talking to no one. And only after “Ghost Warrior” would they finally realize that Jaga’s spirit was indeed real.

I also wanted to explore that more. How long would Lion-O continue to need Jaga’s advice? I would assume that at some point when Lion-O was truly mature and became a confident leader, Jaga would no longer need to advise him, as Lion-O would now have the confidence, experience and wisdom to make those tough decisions for himself. I figured if there ever was something Jaga needed to tell him in our story that was of dire importance, he would do so only in dreams now, and even then he would not appear to him, but just send him visions of things that might happen.

What I never understood was this:

Of course, the other TCs knew Lion-O spoke and saw Jaga, because they were with him when that happened.

But in “Cat Fight”, Mumm-Ra took the form of Jaga to “warn” him about the new TCs being evil. So:

  1. How did Mumm-Ra ever know Lion-O was ale to see and talk to Jaga (I never saw him doing it in front of Mumm-Ra), and even more, how did Mumm-Ra know how Jaga looked and took his form?

  2. Was Lion-O stupid? Just a few eps before, it was Jaga who told him that his dreams about the other thunderians were true, and that he had to rescue them. Would the same person who tell you to rescue some of your kind will warn you against them later? Why didn’t Jaga warn Lion-O about the new TCs being evil since the beginning? Obviously Lion-O was a little dim-witted lol. Also, wouldn’t it have been easier if Jaga appeared to Lion-O and told him not to trust the Red-eyed Jaga? Even more, tell him: whenever you see me with red eyes, don’t trust me… I’m stoned lol.

I believe it was easier for Lion-O because his emotional ties to Jaga were the closest. Panthro, & the others had pretty much said their goodbyes when they stepped into the suspension capsules.

has anyone else?

Hey! im new here, been reading alot…but this is my first post hehe

Has anyone else notice or have an idea whats going on in here?

guess something shady is going on in there btw hehe

P.S. Loved the Trailer and the animation:thumbsup:

I read there is an inquiry about the Thundercats/Mumm-ra first acquaintance.

As you understand this was a hot topic here, and we never got a clear answer to this question either, from the facts throughout the Thundercats 1985 cartoon.

The old imprints depicting something like an ancient battle between Claudus(apparently) VS Mumm-ra in the HD Trailer give rise to this issue once again.

Let me refresh the Older fans’ memories and enlighten the New:

I lay down all the facts in chronological order and took into account every significant information referring to the past so as to come to a reasonable conclusion. The important points are already there by the writers to help us shed some light on this interesting issue without relying merely on assumptions. We should also keep in mind that in Fantasy, the time is quite relative and not clearly expressed, for instance do we know how many years exactly had passed by the time Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader in Revenge of the Sith and fought his son later in Return of the Jedi?

The closest source straight from the show revealing when Mumm-Ra discovered the Sword and the Thundercats as well, which I rationally presume since it is directly connected to them as the eminent part of their legacy and they go hand in hand, is early in the episode “Unholly Alliance”. The Evil Wizard uttered the following words: "I have known of its power for a thousand years, from a time when this was still First Earth». However, by putting together the pieces of the puzzle, something doesn’t fit right. Read below the points to help you judge better by yourself, I took the facts exactly as they were presented during the 130 episodes.

  1. The oldest reference we have of Mumm-Ra is 7,000 years ago when he beat and sent Wizz-Ra to the Seventh Dimension.

2)Mumm-Ra freed Amortus from the Land of No Return where he[Amortus] was banished by the Thunderians -no Time is given of this event.

  1. The Giant Stone Statues in ‘Thundercubs pt.1’ are described by Bengali and Lynx-o as Thundercats of the First Age and at least 2000 years old.

  2. The Ancient-tailed Thundercats of Amortus have little resemblance to the Giant Stones, they differ above all in height. I don’t think they are too 2000 years old but they might have some relation.

  3. Mumm-Ra seems panic stricken and almost fell off his chair by the greatness of Shadowmaster, he isn’t aware of the fierce battle between Jaga, Claudus and Shadowmaster which is said to have taken place eons ago before the destruction of Thundera. Also, Shadowmaster was supposed to be the most powerful wizard in the whole Thundera, how come Mumm-Ra had heard of Ratilla the Terrible as well as many other great magicians and crucial incidents across the Galaxy but nothing of him? t Eons ago, despite being stated twice in the episode by Jaga and Shadowmaster himself, is an overstatement confusing things even further but any citation to Thundera’s history, let alone to those 2 notable characters (Jaga, Clauds) has a special gravity.

  4. Mumm-ra is very familiar with the history of the destruction of Thundera in ‘Thundercubs pt.2’. I don’t believe he had simply read of it from an old history book!

  5. One thing is certain about Jaga’s age, “many centuries ago” he was still young when he released the samurai from the Double-Headed Dragon of Doom, additionally according to the Ancient Spirits narration Jaga was also “Lord of the Thundercats” at that time.

  6. Mumm-Ra tells Mutants that he knows of the Sword’s powers for almost 1000 years.

The only logical way for all the above points to fall into the right place and be coherent is if Jaga and Claudus are very, very old indeed! Mumm-Ra first learned of the Thundercat’s existence, 1000 years ago, Shadowmaster was cast away by Thundera much earlier and the Ancient- tailed Thunderians were around Jaga’s age. Probably through Amortus, word of the Eye reached Mumm-Ra possibly for the first time. Mumm-Ra has also referred to a period of “thee Thunderian ages ago” when he possessed the Golden Sphere of Setti and his power then was even greater than the Ancient Spirits of Evil. I think it’s kind of difficult to track down exactly Mumm-Ra’s first appearance and how far his knowledge of the universe extended.

Nevertheless, it’s hard to believe that Jaga and Claudus or Thunderians generally have such a long lifespan!

The New Series will help us clear up the above and i am glad that the Thunderian society and its enemies will be put into practice!! Besides the resources are pretty rich!

Trying to make sense of the past history of the original Thundercats I’ve found is a task guaranteed to make your head hurt at the very least, if not outright explode!

Of course, the reason for this as we know from Larry Kenney was that the writers never bothered to look at any of the previously-written scripts to fact-check them and avoid contradictions. Another problem was the show didn’t even have a bible that firmly established anything. And of course, even though we had VCR’s, they still weren’t quite commonplace enough that everybody had them. Organized fandom had yet to be formed for the show, too. And the internet didn’t exist, so fans and showrunners couldn’t get the instant feedback that we enjoy today. So there were a lot of reasons for inconsistency.

The numbers I’m guessing were just arbitrarily given by the writers without any thought that anyone would want to refer to them later. Considering that time and space are relative, though, it’s quite possible you could rationalize that they were all correct…especially if you want to factor in that Thunderians may measure time differently than we do. Plus, we don’t know how long Thunderians live anyway. I would say 300 years at most. But I’d have a hard time believing they live to be 500 or even a thousand.

I would say given that Egyptian civilization was at its peak some 5,000 years ago and add to that, Third Earth could probably be around 2,000-3,000 years from our time. At least that’s how we figured it. And while that may not seem likely given when we saw in the show, if you ever saw Life After People, it shows that all traces of our civilization could be easily wiped away within that time.

Given that, Thundera’s early history could be taking place right around now…or earlier or later given Einstein’s relativity theory again. Yes, I know I’m overthinking this, but it’s probably the best way to make any sense of it all!

To make matters worse Lord Slithor, if Tygra’s comment on ‘Unholy Alliance’ concerning the trip to Third Earth is accurate, after Thundera was destroyed and the Thundercats were journeying across space indefinitely until they finally reached the closest planet (Third Earth, because their ship had undergone serious damage from the Mutants) then all the above i mentioned are most likely to have happened in…bygone generations.

Here is Tygra’s guote: “Lord Lion-O spent 10 Galacto Years in a suspension capsule…”

How long is a Galacto Year! and is it possible they had stayed in the capsules all this period!!

Again…“my head hurts!” lol

There’s lots of Science-Fiction stories dealing with people who have been in hibernation for centuries, if not milennia (Buck Rogers and Planet of the Apes just to name-drop a couple of better known examples). But where Thundercats are concerned, since the show seemed rooted in what could be considered Pulp Sci-Fi and Fantasy, it doesn’t stick to much hard science. To wit: breathing and even “falling” in space! So in this context, I’m guessing “10 Galacto-Years” could be just a more far-out way of saying “years.”

I’m trying to remember whether their ship’s FTL/hyperspace drive was damaged in the Mutant attack or not. If it wasn’t, then the writers can sort of fudge just how long exactly it was they spent in space and just say 10 years.

It could have just as easily been in bygone generations like you said. Seeing as how the space/time continuum is curved and…ow! My head hurts again!

Well, we don’t really know how much time they spent in those capsules.

If Grune was a friend of Jaga, and if he terrorized Third Earth “centuries ago”, that means a lot of time passed between Thundera’s explosion and their arrival to Third Earth. The capsules were designed to keep them alive, I think.

Also, in “Exodus” we can see Jaga getting older while piloting the ship, and I don’t think he wouldn’t have not entered a capsule if Third Earth was right around the corner; it seems Third Earth was the closest planet from where they were, but it still was too far away.

Also, we don’t know how fast TCs age, it could be much slower than humans.

On another topic (not unrelated though), Third Earth was supposed to be Earth, but it wasn’t, so it doesn’t matter how developed or how old Egypt civilization was (I know Snarf once made a remark about Egypt, and in another time he ordered “Mexican food”, which totally screwed the show for me).

Just think of this, had Third Earth been really our planet, there was no way for a mummy (Egypt) to live even close to the warrior maidens (presumably Amazons, originally a town from Greece), not to say there would be a cold, icy region a few miles away.

Well, early on when the show first came out, I had wondered if Third Earth was maybe a parallel world. And that the whole show for that matter could have been set in an alternate universe. The name Third Earth sounded awfully similar to Middle Earth, which was also a world that in some ways was very much like our own, but just different enough to suggest that it wasn’t. And I don’t recall having read anything about Tolkien or The Lord of the Rings where he even tried to remotely suggest that Middle Earth was some sort of unknown part of our history.

If Third Earth really is some kind of an alternate Earth, it certainly would help to explain many of the nagging questions I always had. And since obviously history unfolded there very differently, a lot of the apparent historical inconsistencies could make sense.

Well with regard to mummy’s living next to amazonians, living next to snow-people, If this is set in third earth, and we’re in 1st earth, the tectonic plates could have moved a fair bit in the transition and explain why there such a varied number of peoples  …then again if it was only a ‘thousand years ago’ when third earth was 1st earth it wouldn’t really be long enough and I think im pointlessly trying to defend a flawed storyline/map

Trying to figure all this out, mind-bending as it is, is part of the fun!

Yeah…maybe…but the more inconsistencies and silly mistakes I find, the more annoyed I get with the writers for doing a ‘cowboy’ job and thus lose a little bit of love for Thundercats :frowning: .

On a more related note, as all the Tcats badges seem to be plain red in the new trailer, can we expect the black-cat insignia to show up upon the sword of omens’ summon? Similar to how the insignia’s glowed in the original??

The more I see the trailer, the more it looks like the first episode of He-man 2002. Especially the guards.

I still think it looks interesting but at the same time its gonna add so much to the ‘Tcats is a copy of He-man’ stigma.
