Cartoon Network ThunderCats Trailer

I’m curious about the destruction of Thundera as well. I mean, what will it take to make a whole planet explode? It’s not like Palpatine was around looking for the Rebel Alliance while in his little Death Star toy, right?

ETA: I know it was due to a series of earthquakes and all that.

Glad it worked for ya on Facebook. Vimeo is being kind of a pain so I’m trying Veoh now.

I’m not too crazy about planet exploding, its too cliche and has been used way too much, for an origin story. Superman had dibs on it anyway. It can be something that destroys life on Thunderra like a Meteor or something that makes Thunderra unlivable so they need to escape. It could also be the Mutants that have a “world destroying” weapon or to not copy Star Wars a climate altering or something like I mentioned makes the world useless for living Thats what I hope for at least..

Alright, here it is on Veoh. Should be viewable by everyone.

Thank you!

ETA: it didn’t work either as Veoh is not available here… I’ll just have to wait till it shows up in YouTube or something.

Thanks anyway.

I tried putting it on youtube, but it blocked it in all countries but the US… I’ll see if 4shared or something will work.

Not a fan of the planet’s destruction either. And I think it made it worse in season 3 when “the planet pulled together again”… just ridicule.

Besides, the show was giving a good message by telling kids that sometimes you lose things, like people you love or your home, and have to deal with it. Pulling Thundera together again was a bad message in that sense as I see it.

Thanks for all your effort!

Let me know if this one works!

In the original, it was the Sword of Plun-Darr. Jaga defeated Ratilla, took Ratilla’s Sword of Plun-Darr, and threw it in a volcano to destroy it/encase it in molten lava. The plan backfired and the Sword of Plun-Darr reacted to the lava and started the events that led to ThunDera exploding.

Maybe in the new one, the Mutants will have satellites orbiting ThunDera that can rain down powerful beams at will. But that would be a bit of a rip-off of the Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War…

It did! Thank you so much!

Awesome, glad to hear it!

Thanks for that Astro… interesting new beginning to the whole thing. Makes for some interesting questions. This seems to indicate that Mumm-ra and the TCats have had contact before. But how?

Did Mumm-ra attempt to invade the TCats home? Was he always there on Thundera?

Did the TCats win and exile/repel Mumm-ra? Did Mumm-ra win and the TCats fled their original old homeworld (possibly third earth?)

Here’s a real crazy idea…

TCats where the original “people” of Earth. Mumm-ra was a TCat who got involved in evil black magic and it forever altered him. He manipulated various organizes to create the mutants as his servants and went to war with the TCats. During the war one of the tactics that Mumm-ra used was to “devolve” some of the TCats… sort of the opposite of the process he used to create the mutants.

The war comes to an end, but neither side really won. The TCats were able to over power Mumm-ra and severely injury him… he escaped but was all put dead. Mumm-ra makes a pact with the Spirits of Evil, who save him but only through a long hibernation.

As for the TCats, they survived, but only barely. And the planet was heavily damaged by the poison of Mumm-ra’s magic. They know they can’t life there anymore and fly off into space to find a new home.

Years pass. On Earth the planet slowly heals itself. Now that the TCats are gone, this leaves it open for a new species to evolve. Mumm-ra’s spirit works to add and advance this as he views Humans as his next possible servants when he can finally take physical form again. This is why Egypt is one of the first great civilizations… Mumm-ra aided and pushed it along. Of course, something when wrong. Maybe Humans got to smart and Mumm-ra feared he wouldn’t be able to control them, so he worked again to cause Humans to destroy themselves in a nuclear war. BTW, those “devolved” TCats? Those are the Big Cats that exist in our time. They are the descendants of those poor TCats who were afflicted by magic.

On Thundera the TCats have their own troubles. Not all is well with the people, or the planet. The ruling body realizes that their planet is in danger, and they decide it’s time to find another home… they look for, and eventually find their original home… restored after so many thousands of years from the poison that caused them to flee. They decide to head home.

Okay, I know there’s a million holes in that “history.” But it might make for an interesting concept.

It would be easy to think this out of line with the original show, but in Unholy Alliance, when the mutants first encounter Mumm-Ra in his pyramid, they are shocked to learn that he knows about the Eye of Thundera. To quote

“I have known of its power for a thousand years, from a time when this was still First Earth”.

Now there would be many potential “plot holes” the writers would need to wiggle around if they even bother to consider them

  • How does Lion-O not recognize Mumm-Ra when he first encounters him?
  • It could be that Claudus fought him, but that Lion-O or the other Thundercats aside from Claudus and maybe Jaga never saw Mumm-Ra in person. Also as an alternative, perhaps their time in the suspension capsule somehow was responsible for that portion of their memory being erased as a side effect
  • How do the Mutants not recognize Mumm-Ra?
  • This one would be more difficult to explain. However that battle scene appears on a heiroglypic somewhere outside of cat’s Lair, depicting what we ASSUME to be Claudus because it looks like him. Perhaps it is an ancient anscestor of Claudus and Lion-O? And thus the Mutants we know from the original series weren’t alive yet. If it is Claudus, it stands to reason still that perhaps it was a very young Claudus and still the Mutants were not alive at that time (since we don’t know their age or at what rate they age in comparison to Thundercats).

Those are just a couple of explanations that would be plausible. That of course is if the writers even bother trying to square this new series backstory against the little bits of information we know from the original. They may not try to or care to do so.

Still, we have evidence to suggest that Mumm-Ra knew of and likely encountered Thundercats before Lion-O, Cheetara, Panthro, Tygra, and Snarf appeared on Third Earth.

Actually, I kind kind of like that angle, as it ties them more deeply together from the beginning, as opposed to the old show where the Thundercats crashed on Third Earth and Mumm-Ra is just there.

I personally always liked the idea that there could be more to the conflict between the Thundercats and Mumm-Ra than what we saw. It was hinted at in “Book of Omens” in that Mumm-Ra was a “champion” for the Ancient Spirits of Evil. So when he failed, they simply got another one: Pyron. Now yes, at first blush that sounds kind of weird and lame as it seemingly flew in the face of everything that came before, but we know there are also Ancient Spirits of Goodness. What if the whole thing was kind of a cosmic chess match between the two? For whatever reason or another, they were incapable of fighting one another directly, so they chose others to fight for them by proxy. Mythology is full of such conflicts. Even the show Babylon 5 did this in the way it was revealed the Vorlons and the Shadows fought each other. My fiancee and I even made this the central idea in our story. I think it would actually help make this show more grander and epic in scope, tying it in further to a lot of mythological and archetypal elements that I thought were always inherent in it.

Red Ramage, I think that would be too LotR / MotU lol

Grune, maybe it wasn’t an accident or a casual thing that Jaga chose Third Earth for the TCs to live in. Maybe he knew there was some bad elements from ancient Thundera (Mumm-Ra and Grune) and the TCs’ presence will be necessary there.

Huh, u really enjoyed that didn’t u! lol. I feel somewhat special now! Well good, good, but you don’t kow where my tongues been :stuck_out_tongue: (ok i’ll stop now).
Anywho thanks muchly for the effort of the tygra gif, guess they need to be a minimum length huh?
Oh and feel free to contact my agent on the use of my copy-righted ‘rough Tcats tongue’ idea for the fanfiction :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not to keen on it either as I dont think the whole ancient egyptian devil priest bit (which I think is awesome) will fit in well with an intergalactic travelling demon.
There is 100% gonna be a third earth, Thundera I think will be destroyed one way or another, maybe it would be interesting to have a different method than the original too (tho quite liked the sword of plundarr destroying it from within and was hoping to see Jaga feel massively guilty/responsible for causing it).

I previously posted I thought the reptilians were dragging a cocoon along but that it wasn’t gonna be Mumm-Ra inside, in light of the extra footage I now believe it WILL be Mumm-Ra trapped inside(from previous battle depicted maybe) and Grune will release him.

Furthermore I don’t think the writers will try n explain how Tcats didn’t recognise Mumm-Ra in orignal, they will just start with a clean fresh story.

Perhaps after a ‘second war’ Mumm-Ra decides if HE cant have Thundera then nobody can, and destroys/severely damages the planet forcing them to go to third earth.

All of this massively deviates from Mumm-Ra’s origins in the original (which I dont like) but hey! If u can’t beat them, join em

Grune you are mixing continuities, this continuity might not have the Thundercats/Mutants meeting for the first time in Third Earth. I just hope Mumm-Ra isn’t too tied to the Thundercats, I kinda liked how they met all these hostile things in Third Earth for the first time, so we know he is tied somewhat, I just hope he isn’t tied way too much and make Mumm-Ra into “I hate the thundercats rawr villain” and keep him in a “I rule third earth and anything that can oppose me will be dealt with”. The only thing I like about that is it might explain why he wants the Eye of thunderra, something that isn’t explained very well in the original show.

Oh and does Tygra look a bit young to anyone else? I hope he’s older than Lion-O. I like Lion-O being the youngest, it makes him more interesting, we already know they won’t be aging this time around on their way to third earth but Lion-O can still be the youngest one.

I was always interested in that aspect of the backstory. My fiancee and I had a theory of how it tied into the larger events of the series and the greater conflict between the ASOE and ASOG.

Basically, we figured that the Thundercats in general and Lion-O in particular had always been intended by the ASOG to be their champions. They were destined at some point to fight Mumm-Ra. However, the destruction of Thundera by Jaga’s action of throwing the Sword of Plun-Darr into it threw the entire plan off balance, and it forced the two to encounter each other much sooner than planned. Jaga was warned of this, and tried to make up for it by tampering with Lion-O’s suspension capsule so he would be an adult by the time they arrived on Third Earth (not an accident as was speculated) and be physically strong enough to fight Mumm-Ra.

But this wasn’t enough for the ASOG. So as penance for essentially drawing a mustache on their grand design, Jaga was made to act as a spiritual advisor to Lion-O. So his Obi-Wan routine wasn’t a voluntary choice on his part.

No, I’m not. I gave you a quote from the original series to suggest Mumm-Ra in fact had encountered Thundercats prior to their ship landing on Third Earth. I also never mentioned anything in that post about the Thundercats and Mutants encountering each other, so what do you mean this continuity might not have the Thundercats/Mutants meeting for the first time on Third Earth? The original didn’t either, so I don’t know what you’re saying there.

Jaga seemed to care for Lion-O very much in the original series. If he didn’t, I don’t think he would have constantly reminded him “I will always be with you Lion-O”. I mean if he were forced to say that by the Ancient Spirits of Good instead of being able to pass completely to the afterlife, those Ancient Spirits of Good aren’t really that good are they? I can’t really see them forcing a good character who acted with courage by ensuring their ship made it to Third Earth, sacrificing his own life, to have to begrudgingly serve as an In and Out counselor to Lion-O. I think out of love he found a way to communicate with him and wanted to be there for him in his times of need.

If you’re referring to the RB series, Jaga didn’t choose Third Earth. They were originally heading for a different galaxy all together in Exodus before the Mutants boarded their ship and damaged the control systems. They weren’t able to make it to their original galaxy and instead had to settle for the galaxy where Third Earth was.

I wouldn’t say Jaga never truly cared for Lion-O, or that his promise of always being with him wasn’t heartfelt. In our story in fact, Jaga confesses to Lion-O that he had always felt guilty about what he had done, both to Thundera and to Lion-O’s life. So he accepted the duty of being his spiritual guide, as he agreed with the ASOG that it would be an appropriate form of atonement. Jaga fully expects Lion-O to be furious with him, but Lion-O forgives him, and says that he is way too hard on himself. In a way he’s grateful, because if he had never had the experiences he did on Third Earth, he would never have become the man he was now. So I’d say the way we did it, it was still very much in keeping with the character, and even adds more depth by bringing out a more flawed side.
