I’m still looking for an HD encode of the trailer and not the SD uploaded as HD that are on youtube right now. The only real HD one was recorded off a camcorder and not captured so it looks worse than the SD encode.
Great points Tygra_Rules, i was so sure about my statement because the general impression through the whole 130 episodes is that Tygra can be invisible only through the use of his Bolo Whip. Besides, in one moment in Out Of Sight while he desperately tries to reverse the invisibility process, he says:’ Count down to invisibility… making the two of us invisible has overloaded the Whip’ clearly insinuating he has this ability because of his weapon.

I know they made it believe he can only turn invisible with the whip, that’s why that inconsistency bothers me… like trying to make us believe that Cheetara can only use her sixth sense when holding her staff or something.
When he “overloaded” the whip in Out of Sight… that was kind of ridicule IMO, basing it in all what he did in previous eps.
You like to talk a lot about DBZ and I don’t understand why, it’s a really old show that was incredible popular and that’s about it. The original Thundercats was anime too, the designs are 80’s anime style with Tatsunoko’s influence in it, The intro is Kanada style of animation, It couldn’t be more anime visually.
There is anime with very cartoon like design and there is anime with realistic looking design like ghost in the shell 1 and 2, Jin Roh, Patlabor 2 and 3, Otogi Zoshi, Magnetic Rose, Blood the Last Vampire, Satoshi Kon’s work and realistic but stylized at the same time stuff like Ninja scroll, Vampire Hunter D Bloodlust, Shigurui and Street fighter 2 the animated movie just to name a few.
The video was to show the style I was expecting from Studio 4C. The animation(movement) is an example of the realistic style and it doesn’t matter if it is an OVA or a TV show because the video below is equally impressive in terms of animation too and was a Tv series, isn’t rotoscoped BTW and all the Japanese shows are low budget, full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood had something like 500 000 $ for the whole show(64 episodes) and that’s the same money you need to produce one SpongeBob Squarepants episode.

The quality of the animation is as good as the staff behind it and the new Thundercats doesn’t look that hot for some reason. Iron Man was badly animated and Wolverine was badly done. It’s like the Japanese animators doesn’t care for American properties anymore, they just take the money and that’s it. The best animators in japan are freelancers and japan is making less and less shows each year, so it doesn’t look like they are swimming in money and that’s the reason why I was expecting something really impressive.
@Casshern - I somewhat agree that, a lot of core anime fans might consider Thundercats to be anime, or anime inspired or what have you.
Still, I consider Thundercats and Vampire Hunter Z to be two totally different styles of shows. Bascially anything that came on mainstream American television in the 80s I don’t really hold to be “anime” (although Voltron is pretty close) which is why I keep putting quotation marks around it.
We’ve discussed it at length on these boards in other threads and people much more familiar with the shows you mentioned than I am (again by choice) have made mention that while the animation company behind Thundercats was an Asian company, the character designs themselves were more in line with traditional Western style in terms of things like eye orientation, facial proportions, body proportions, etc.
There’s definitely a much heavier western style animation influence on the original show than something like Ghost in a Shell, and definitely more so than the new show.
I don’t mean to put words in your mouth, but it sounds to me your saying the animation style as being not up to standard, is more that it just isn’t in line with your personal preference of shows. I’ve heard of most of the shows that you’ve mentioned but never watched more than an episode or two of any of them. While the anime market IMO has probably grown since the 80s, I still think its a niche market as the viewership of say something like Batman the Animated series, is much broader and more appealing than some of the other shows you mentioned, at least to the primary target audience of this new show: The Western World (U.S. Europe, etc). I’m guessing here of course but I really feel pretty confident in that guess.
That’s why, to me, this Thundercats show does stretch the boundaries of being anime inspired, without completely crossing that line. Of course I could be completely wrong here too since I’m basing this off of two captured stills and a minute long trailer. From what I’ve seen, that’s my assessment, and I think they pushed it as far as they could to be an “anime” show to bring in a new audience of kids/teens of today, while still retaining much of the original loyal fanbase that, the purists of them (like me), wouldn’t take to a full fledged Thundercats “anime”.

But I still don’t like it, there is not enough seconds for a decent Tygra gif. So I was waiting for either a new clip of the up-coming show or just wait till it airs to make a killer Tygra gif.
BTW, thanks for the rough cat tongue lick, it was cute and made me blush. I have to admit, I’ve been in this fandom since 2004 and many have flirted with me, but the “rough tongue lick” was a first and I’m rather shocked about that the more I think about this fandom considering this show is based on cats and cats have rough tongues. Come to think more about it, I’ve read hundreds of T-cat fanfiction and written a few myself and never once did I ever read about T-cats having rough tongues. I’ll keep that in mind the next time I write a T-cat fanfiction.
You don’t have to worry, Grune. I wasn’t exactly crazy about the original myself, but I chalk that up to me having been somewhat older when the show came out (I was 15 at the time) and I’m guessing the majority of the fans who really loved it were younger…like 10 and under, and Thundercats was made for a younger audience then anyway. That may not sound like a huge difference, but believe me, at that age it can make all the difference in the world.
But I’m not here to tread on anyone’s toes, and I didn’t come to start flamewars or hurt anyone. If we come to differences of opinion on anything, I’m happy to agree to disagree. I may be a Mutant, but I’m a very well-behaved one! Consider it as keeping in the spirit of detente!
Anyway…what was I going to say? Oh yeah! Now that there’s a higher-res trailer out now - with several extra seconds of footage no less - it’s easier to make things out more clearly.
Again, why do I keep thinking of the new Battlestar Galactica when I think of this? The music heard at the beginning really reinforces it, because it reminds me so much of Bear McCreary’s opening theme for BSG. Listen to this and tell me if it sounds kind of similar.
Also it looks like the reptilian mutants are enslaved to the Thunderians, seeing as how there are shots of them in stocks and bloodied(!) in the background The mural at the very beginning also looks like it depicts an ancient war between the Thunderians and the Mutants (who were led by Mumm-Ra?). It could be surmised that the Mutants lost and were enslaved. It wouldn’t be a surprise, then, if a major part of the plot in the pilot - and a continuing thread throughout the rest of the series - would be that they rose up and rebelled (probably with either Mumm-Ra’s or Grune’s help), much like the Cylons did in the new BSG. I can almost imagine it now…

About the Extended High Quality Trailer which shows the ancient imprints at the beginning, depicting a fierce battle between mumm-ra and a Thundercat, probably Claudus or one of his ancestors, it takes me way back to an older thread where we were discussing the possibility of the Evil Wizard being aware of Thundera and the Thundercats race. Now it’s pretty clear…And i think it is a very smart scenario.
I don’t have much to say about the New Series, simply EPIC. It has blown me away in every aspect. I am grateful beyond words. I am very happy that all the anxiety and concern we were expressing 4-5 months ago over lengthy posts has finally settled with the best outcome.
All i care now is for the Premiere night!!

mmm…I was hoping Mumm-Ra wasn’t tied to the Thundercats/Thunderra before they arrived to Third Earth but it does seem like Lion-O’s father defeated him before. It also seems that Mumm-Ra already used the Mutants as an army.

For what I’m reading, Mumm-Ra is already related to the TCs… I don’t like that. But maybe this time there will be no Third Earth at all?
Third Earth has been mentioned in interviews, heck its mentioned that Panthro has been in third earth for a while which is why he is older and “roughed up”. Its clear they are fleshing out the story which is something the original show never did, they set up an awesome universe yet never explained any of it and the new show is trying to make it all fit together nicely. So I expect we’ll see the downfall of Thunderra and how it all happened.
