Color me amazed. That was awesome!! I had to rewatch it several times. OMG! I hope it does well and is as amazing as the trailer. I wonder what the intro and theme will be like now. Its going to be hard to top the original theme and opener. I was iffy about Cheetarah before. Now I’m not. She is Hot and looks like she can kick some butt. Before i was going to be picky about the toy line, picking things here and there. What was I thinking?!? I want it all now! I still can hope for a cats lair however and maybe the new playset is more or less an arena? I want to see Panthro in action now. I cannot wait to see more! This is what I’ve been waiting for.

I love the fact that Jaga,Claudus and Grune seem to have a big role. It I’ll be interesting to see how the relationship with Grune gets bad.
But who was the lord of the thundercats before Lion’o? Was it Jaga or Claudus? I forgot.
I hope we’ll see Claudus, Grune and Jaga in some epic battles too.
Futhermore I hope Monkian,Jackelman,Slithe,Vultureman and Ratar’o return. An episode from the greatest fighter “The Demolisher” would be great too but that won’t happen probably.
I think it WAS Claudus until he got blinded by fending off the Mutants’ attack on Thundera (‘Return to Thundera’) and then Jaga took over.

The series is also inconsistent on whether Jaga actually had the title of “Lord of the Thundercats”, if I recall. (The guards in Return to Thundera identified Claudus as Lord of the Thundercats but Jaga as bearer of the Sword of Omens.)
I’ve been re-watching the Original Thundercats cartoon and lets face it, its rather mediocre. I caught re-runs in the early 90s when I was very young, I didn’t love it but I liked it. Re-watching it now and it suffers the same thing most 80s cartoons do, the main characters are just so boring/boyscouts and cardboard cut outs, villains have for the most part lame or silly plots, still Thundercats is still much better than most 80s cartoons since it has some sense of continuity and an actual Mythology. Thats what is amazing about the 80s shows, it built an awesome world, however the show never really explains the awesome world it lives in and the show hurts because of it. The new show however seems to be taken full advantage and fleshing out the awesome mythology of the Thundercats, something that couldn’t be done in the 80s but is now possible since standards have changed. Finally the awesome Thundercats universe will be able to be exploited.
This is WAAAAAAYYY off the mark. If it was so mediocre how does it even have the fanbase it does?
No, Inhumanoids, Bravestarr, C.O.P.S., Jayce & the Wheeled Warriors, Visionaries, and a slew of other 80s shows were mediocre.
Thundercats is a top tier 80s show that has aged very well. The voice acting is top notch, the animation still holds up today better than anything outside of Transformers & G.I. Joe, and the Season 1 storyline is some of the best of any action toon show ever.
Season 2 is a drop off in comparison (but then again so is any later season of virtually every 80s cartoon ever made), but Season 1 of Thundercats defines greatness and is a model for any current show to follow
Mumm-Ra in the first few episodes of season 1 is probably only rivaled by Megatron in terms of sheer power and if not for a few lucky breaks from the Thundercats (one in particular where Lion-O shields himself in a battle in the woods right as Mumm-Ra has overpowered him) where they discover his only weakness, might have destroyed them before they even established themselves there.
I don’t mean to jump on you personally, but I’m going to challenge any viewpoint that says the original show was ‘mediocre’ as you put it.
thoughts and suggestions on new series
I thought the trailer was pretty cool, looks a bit more serious and dramatic than the original series, which is probably a good thing. I’m not thrilled about the tigra vs lion-o possibility, only because it deviates dramatically fromt he original story, but ill be open and wait until the whole story unfolds. One thing I do like is the early stage at it starts of at, back on thundera. After the original serie’s episode “return to thundera”, I always wished they would have explored that a little more (needless to say that season’s two New Thundera was very different from that first depiction). Althought they’ve obviously changed the origin story, im happy overall as long as (hopefully) they work their way back to the original series as far as third earth (which was the basic idea of the cartoon). Another amazing thing would be if they touched on all those book of omens and treasure of thundera back story. All that legend about the sword of plundarr and the book of omens was such a great back story and it always felt like they didnt dig far enough into it…maybe explaining the origin of the thundercats, the origin of the sword of omens, etc…so many threads to pull in order to make this new cartoon a success. such a rich story with many tools and a solid foundation. Just like all the fans of the original show im keeping my fingers crossed so that it is a great success
I’m sure they will. Its looking like we’re going to see the origin of the Sword of Omens, Grune’s betrayal, how Lion-O became Lord of the Thundercats…and a slew of back story that was only ever hinted at or never mentioned at all in the first show.
The only real weakness of the first show, if you’d really even want to call it that is that the writing was more of “a day in the life of” instead of actually story driven. There were several arcs (The first 3 or 4 episodes all tied together, Thundercats Ho, the trials, some others). Just from Jelenic’s interviews and the snippits of what we’ve seen it looks like its almost going to be completely story driven.
That I would say is probably an improvement, but not a major one as I didn’t have a problem with the approach they took before (other than some canonical mishaps because, as Larry said in an interview they rarely ever went back to check old shows for story lines, so some things don’t make sense because of that).
Overall I’m looking forward to two things

Grune’s betrayal - I really hope they portray him as ridiculously powerful villain.
Also, in the old show Grune and Jaga were almost equals with Jaga slightly superior.
In this trailer Jaga looks a little too old and frail to even consider fighting Grune, although Claudus looks like he could go toe to toe with him.

And also, I love the new designs of the new show…the old show will never be mediocre, however the new show shows promise of it surpassing the original…and if you dare to growl at me with that saber-tooth and spiked-mace of yours, I’ll squirt you again with this water bottle! Don’t think I won’t! I have 16 ounces waiting to be used, damnit!

Yeah that’s the first thing I thought of when lnyxana was talking about water bottles. XD
Now before I continue I should say I’m only 23 episodes in (besides the episodes I saw as a kid) and I’m assuming the show isn’t going to be changing much but it very well could and I’m sure my opinion will change somewhat.
I agree, Thundercats is a top tier 80s cartoon, other iconic shows like He-Man and Transformers can’t hold a candle to it. Heck I had to force myself to finish the “Top 10 He-Man episodes” DVD I once bought and those were supposed to be the best episodes. I’m sure it was revolutionary for its time but it hasn’t aged very well and thats where I disagree. Now it may be unfair to compare it to cartoons today and even in toons in the 90s since there are/were fewer restrictions, more creative control and better technology. But thats what I’m comparing it to and yeah the show is a bit dull. I am also seeing the show without nostalgia for the most part.
Oh and don’t worry, I don’t feel like you jumped on me or anything, we’re just discussing and this is a forum to discuss after all, I’m glad I get to expand on my opinion.
And to get a bit more back on topic, Thundercats was still a fantastic show for its time and it has an amazing universe. Most of the stuff that hasn’t aged well are mostly the fault of the decade the show came out and the new show will no longer have those restrictions so I think it’ll be a blast and I’m definitely hyped.

Class isn’t till 12:30 so I can get up at 6am and have six hours to do it. Maybe after tomorrow’s algebra’s exam I could sketch it…but don’t hold me to it…ya never know when you have a seven year old and a nine year old

Just noticed something as well. Play the original thundercats theme while watching the trailer muted. It’s the almost the same -exact- length. Kinda makes you think doesn’t it? There’s a lot of parts in the trailer that fit with the original theme too.
