Being an He-Fan, I’ve heard people say they don’t like the comedic hero-sidekicks like Orko or Cringer.
Well I love both of those characters because I understand them, but even their combined “annoyance”-factor isn’t a match for Snarf, whom I detest absolutely.
Yes he has a purpose in the legion of Thundercats, yes he has been given few family-ties and history, but the way he (early in the series) keeps trying to make everyone look at him for what he can do (or did) is something that bothers me no-end.
Okay, I could go on and on, but I’ll leave my rant to that.

I always liked him and like you always liked Orko in He-man. A cartoon would be pretty boring and too serious if it were not for these types of characters. Actually one of my favourite season 1 episodes is infact Snarf Takes Up The Challenge
Like Neil, I’ve always liked Snarf - his prescence never bothered me, indeed when I was a kid he was second only to Lion-O himself as my favourite ThunderCat! Also like Neil, I really enjoy “Snarf Takes Up The Challenge”, just because I like seeing the little guys proving their worth and making a difference!
I also really love the character of Orko in MOTU - I was always semi-ambivalent towards him until someone pointed out to me what an important character he was, rescuing Prince Adam and Cringer from the Tar Swamp and thus allowing He-Man to come to be. And, Cringer always makes me laugh, or at least I find him very endearing. So yeah, I’m a big fan of the characters everyone loves to hate!

I actually liked Orko in He-man, as a kid watching the show, he is the one most kids relate to, goofing up all the time, getting into trouble, etc. I loved all the characters, but when Orko came on, he always made me laugh, or get into the story that much more, plus his voice wasn’t annoying.
Snarf on the other hand, that dude made me want to gouge my eyes out with spoons and flick them at the TV.! He had some good moments, but his voice and that annoying “Ssssnarf,Snarrfff” was sometimes too much. Just an all around annoying character.

Yeah that was one of the specific things that started bothering me very quickly, was the repeated saying and manner it was said…snarf, snarf!
I’m sure if Orko had been floating around saying “orko!” between his every sentence, I would have hated his guts too no-end.
I HATED him. I absolutely DETEST him, like Orko, Wendi and Marvin or any other of those characters TV execs force into cool properties thinking kids need someone useless and annoying to identify with. The worst consequence of this is that eventually, in any one of these shows, the writers are required to write a story in which the clumsy, cowardly and weak character somehow saves the day, usually only because the mission requires someone to get into a hole so small that none of the adults fit in it. Something that would be easily solved by coming up with a cool adult character with the power to change size or shape.
Come to think of it, I loved the McGuiness issues of the comic and I’ve just realized these is no sign of that Snarf pest anywhere…
I liked neither even as a kid. But to discuss Snarf; Irritating voice, just didn’t like the concept. They could have made him a bit more vicious-looking and cool like the other Thundercats. Not that they’re particularly vicious-looking as they are cool so more room for a vicious Thundercat! Not that it would even be an option in this case of cartoons, but one can dream.
And by the way, His name is Snarf and he is a snarf?? What’s up with that?! I know he had another name he was emarrased of but that doesn’t explain Snarfer. It’s like my name would be Human or Humaner! Well, sorry, I don’t like him.
I think Snarf is a necessary evil. Kids needed something to laugh at and make them feel better about themselves. Personally, I liked Snarf and I could handle Snarfer. I think if a new show (and there are hints about it) were to air without the Snarves, it just wouldn’t be right.
Snarf is alright. I mean don’t get me wrong he could annoy me but overall I think his character was OK and especially in eps like Snark takes up the Challenge. I do prefer Orko and Cringer though,I think they had far more personality.
