What is going on with Ebay Thundercats auctions?

What are we to do? Hmmm well i guess we just give in to the monopoly. There’s no other way

That is exactly what I have done.

splash, did the buyer ever pay yet?

I’m a member of Ebay and I’m not a thief. I think that comment is a bit too much of a generalisation as everyone isn’t the same. I’ve met some excellent honest sellers and buyers on Ebay so it isn’t all bad

My problem is the few that spoil it for others. These are the ones Ebay does nothing about and makes it easier for, with their ridiculous policies!

Without Ebay the vintage toys collecting community would be basically dead. If i were to post a poll how people got their toys i bet you Ebay would win hands down. Yes Ebay is full of thieves but so is the rest of the world. Its always a risk when buying something but its a risk one must take in order to enjoy your hobbies

He hasn’t paid yet, but we have talked by email and phone, and get it all set up today. I sent him the Pay Pal payment request just a little while ago, so it looks like everything is going forward.

8 back Panthro on Ebay going for $1,234 as of now http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=011&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=320136328318&rd=1&rd=1 …and reserve not met? Are you freaking kidding me? Something is not right

That does smell funny, I sense a shill bidder. I would like to see the list of actual bidders. The funny thing is its not even a first first 8back as it has the ljn pamphlet inside.

Ahhh yeah i didnt even notice that. The early first run 8 backs had no pamphlet, such a small detail like that. Funny cause all my 8 backs except one have no pamphlet even the Panthro

Beautiful piece!

Not sure on the price though, but then when did we last see this piece on Ebay?

Who knows?? (shrugs) :?

Reserve was still not met at over $1300? I smell fish

I can’t see a panflet inside it. Are you sure? Even in the side view I can’t tell, because it should have some volume, right?

Hard to tell really, I looks like there is some volume by vieweing it from the front bvut from the side you really cant see anything it looks more like it doesnt have any

Honestly, I do not smell anything fishy. This is by FAR the best 8-back Panthro I’ve ever seen (and I don’t see a pamphlet either). This may be one of the best examples of this figure in existance. In my opinion, it should be worth somewhere in the $1,200 - $1,500 range (looks like it would grade at least an AFA80) as of right now. But with investment pieces such as this one, I’d assume the seller has a “stock buyer’s” mindset, where you don’t buy a stock for it’s current value, but rather it’s future potential. I also don’t see how he would be scamming people by having a high reserve…Let me guys know what you think!

-D

The pamphlet is there in the tray (its hard to see cause his pics are dark) The little tray indent on the inner bubble is the final evolution of those pamphlets. Also hasnt anyone noticed that huge flaw with the hangtab, and the fact that the top left corner on the bubble looks like its started to lift the bubble is yellow and its has a soft bottom right corner. Cant tell anything else cause the pics suck, if you have such a high reserve on something you take more than 5 pics, you dont see the one side of the bubble at all.. Its not even that rare of a piece, Ive seen 3 or 4 of them in the past year or so. Aside from what I have brought up here it is a nice piece, but no way in hell worth 1300.

All right here is my take on this. I have been following Ebay almost non-stop daily for the last 3 years. No joke when i say non-stop and I have only seen maybe 2 Panthros and out of those Panthros both were party lifted bubbles. Now dont get me wrong this Panthro is in damn good condition no doubt however a price of $1200-$1500 is in no way warranted. Now dan07 if you want to pay that much for a figure I got a Panthro here that is pamphlet free and would likely grade an 80, its one of my highest grade figures. Anyways I guess to each its own but I would refuse to pay that much for it but if someone else would, hey by all means. I’m a collector first but if somebody threw that much in my face I’ll take it.

With a reserve that high it all seems too fishy, its just my opinion and I’m by no means talking bad about sellers. It just looks odd from a long time collector’s POV. That seller contacted me several times in the past inquiring about more info on the Panthro and I did tell the seller that it was rare indeed but maybe the seller took it a little bit to the extreme with a reserve that high. My estimate is that it was set at the $1500 range which would be insane. Hell i dont even think a TW Lion-O in the most mint condition should sell for over 1 grand.
Anyways I cant really tell too well if the pamphlet is there or not, my guess would be not but as Matt said the picture is rather dark. It is clearly seen on the left side of the bubble that it is starting to separate and although the card is very nice and its possible that it has a clear bubble as well it still does not warrant a price tag of 1200-1500. Thats just plain crazy but then again its not surprising me anymore how much people are paying these days. With the rumors of a new movie I think people are jumping in the bandwagon attempting to get some sort of huge profit in the near future. I’m sorry to say this but if anybody is looking for some sort of profit by buying now and selling in a near future even 1 or 2 years from now I have some news…IT AINT GONNA HAPPEN. Now if anybody wouldve jumped 3,4,5 or more years ago you’re sitting in a little gold mine.

Oh and if anybody expects to get that much, like Matt says it would be advised to take as many high res pics as possible

You want to see high res pics of a Panthro in excellent condition? Look no further. And please, please refrain from using these pictures on any other public place other than TCL. You may save to your hard drive and keep it for personal viewing but I would advise these pics not to be used for Ebay purposes. I may sound a bit harsh but I just dont want anyone to get ripped off by using my pics. How’s this for $60 dollars

And thats all folks!!!

Nice, I’ve got a complete MOC collection now in my Hard Drive! hehehe! Nice Panthro!

Matt - I don’t see anything wrong with the hangtab - it’s just hanging on a screw. The bottom right corner seems to have very minor wear but it does not look like a soft corner and I do not see the bubble lift - maybe it’s just me?

Manny - Don’t get me wrong - I’m not one of the people that will drop that kind of money on a toy. I have a nice sized collection, but I refuse to pay these insane prices for these figures. Your Panthro is nice, but the bubble’s very yellow - it does look like an 80Y though. But these figure prices aren’t based on what I’m willing to pay, it’s based on what other collectors are willing to pay.

I think it’s crazy that his reserve is set above $1,300, and I personally would not spend anything near that on this figure (hell, I wouldn’t spend over $250 for it)

I actually had you in mind when i took em. Glad youre enjoying them

Guys please refrain from calling Ebay sellers ‘cheats’ and ‘morons’ no matter how suspicious an auction looks. It’s fine to pick flaws out with the actual item, comment on them, as well as discuss the value of an item, but you cannot make judgements on the person without solid proof. Even if proof is there, it’s really up to Ebay to do something about it.

Hehehe, thanks Manny! Its always nice to have quality pictures like that! I’m doing myself a wallpaper with some MOC Thundercats and this Panthro will replace the other I had there!

About the auctions, theres one that you have probably seen that consists in a lot of MOC Thundercats, including an 8-Back Panthro and its “only” 1900$, and it has the “Best Offer” Option.

At first sight, it would be a great deal, but the seller does not offer Paypal or something that could be into some “buyer’s protection”. Lot’s of buyers are in “state of awareness”!
