I had a dream Haim Saban wanted the rights to the Cats, and he actually had high hopes for the franchise!
Too bad I woke up without finishing my dream…
So…what happened???
Haim Saban buying out “ThunderCats”? That’s a concept I find myself torn upon. At least, T-Cat, that it’s just a dream. Still, I’d like to know what your dream is about.
All I remember is my uncle (who is a big time pop culture guy) found out that Saban acquired the license to ThunderCats, he also told me Haim Saban had been working tirelessly to add this property to his name!
The weird thing is I never see my dreams through and end up waking up…sorry!

Yeah, of the people who I’d like to see do ThunderCats, Saban isn’t one of them. He’d just turn it into another Power Rangers clone. 
There’s actually a short list of people whom I’d like to see do it, depending on availability…
Joss Whedon- Chances are unlikely though, as he’s already working on the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series and after that, Avengers 2.
J. Michael Straczynski- Babylon 5 showed he can do the long-form, epic story arcs with a large cast. And he can do both excellent dialogue and characterization. That he’s been showrunner of The Real Ghostbusters and before that wrote a few He-Man episodes back in the day shows he’s familiar with animation. He hasn’t been much of a presence on TV lately, though; having been mostly writing comics these days. ThunderCats would be a great way for him to return to TV.
Kevin Smith- Those who only know him for his dope humor and Jay & Silent Bob-related stuff obviously never read his run on Daredevil or his Green Arrow: Quiver miniseries. This guy really can write! Though it seems he’s mostly focusing on his podcasting show, running his comic book store and devoting his energies to whatever pet project he’s got going on. And while it seems he has a bit of fondness for the show, something tells me he wouldn’t be too interested if asked to work on a new show or story.
I understand what your saying I wouldn’t want Saban 100% behind making the series, but I would want him involve with hiring a team that would make the franchise successful. (Realistically he has the finances to make this work)
Sort of like Disney and Star Wars, with George Lucas being the consultant for the movies…or am I wrong?
You’re not in the wrong, T-Cat. I think J. Michael Straczynski is a great choice for writing “ThunderCats.”

Crazy as it sounds, I’d much rather see Disney get the rights to ThunderCats. They own some of the biggest geek properties in the world right now (Marvel, The Muppets, Tron, Pirates of the Caribbbean, and of course now Star Wars) and have done right by them for the most part.
Plus, it’ll just **** off WB more. They’ve been stumbling around trying to get DC Comics-related movies off the ground that aren’t about Batman, and that lack of competence seems to have extended down to Cartoon Network as well. It would be great to take it away from them and have it in the hands of another company that could “do it right.” 
Disney XD aired several Warner Bros. cartoon shows, like “Static Shock.”

Although with the way things are with the 2011 series there isn’t really anything left worth talking about…even chatting about someone’s dream is still better than those ‘What If…’ threads.

Personally, I have to agree with Slithor. Look what happened after Disney acquired Marvel: the Avengers movie. Sure, it was already in the works when they acquired Marvel, but the important thing is that Disney didn’t mess with a good thing. When they have a line that is succeeding, Disney let’s it keep doing what works.
Yeah, people are screaming bloody murder that Disney is putting an end to the Clone Wars on Cartoon Network. I am giving them the benefit of the doubt right now, I have a feeling that there is still going to be sixth season of Clone Wars, but maybe on a channel owned by Disney rather than a competitor…
I’m quite wary about Disney ever owning the rights to “ThunderCats.” Both Warner Bros. and Disney are from the same state (California) and are two big competitors.
One thing’s for sure, if Saban did ThunderCats then Bandai would still have gotten the toy rights. lol
I still would’ve liked to see Nick in control of Tcats. They’ve done well with Avatar and TMNT.

Nickelodeon is another choice in buying out the rights to “ThunderCats.” I’d say The Hub, but it would take quite an eternity for them to work out the kinks.
