Wave 2 Updates?

Doesn’t look good does it? I can’t ignore the absence of the elbow pad, not when it’s supposed to be a figure for collectors. Even a kids’ toy would most likely include that detail. The LJN one did. I wouldn’t want to re-purchase Tygra because I’d be doing it for the wrong reason. I’d be doing it because they didn’t get the first one right and we’ve waited over 2 years for this one.

Exactly. It’s a big let down and like you say he’s both a core character and a fan favourite. I’m thinking that the elbow pad may now have to be a separate piece that they send out to us. It may just be as simple as sliding it onto his arm.

When I posted the picture of Tygra, I posted a picture of Mumm-Ra too. What do people think of that figure?
Here’s Grune:

The hip joints look terrible.

I think I’m fine without the elbow pad. It’s already missing since the August 2021 boxed previews lolz

They do and I’m not digging the paint jobs on Tygra and Grune. They look very sloppy. Grune has a glob of grey paint on his right eyebrow. Tygra looks like he’s been eating a hotdog with too much mustard. I’m also wondering what the deal is with Grune’s knees. Mumm-Ra’s arms look a bit weird. Did they actually fix them? This wave is looking as though it’s going to have a lot of QC issues. I thought the whole point of them being sent back to China and people having to wait longer was so that we wouldn’t have QC issues. It looks like they’ve done next to nothing to fix these figures.

It’s not acceptable when we’ve had to wait this long for it. These are supposed to be ‘Ultimates’ which cost more than your average action figure. If the imperfections with Panthro and Jackalman were a problem then this is a problem too. The elbow pad was in the images we saw when the figure went up for pre-order and there has been plenty of time to rectify mistakes. That was the reason why wave 2 was sent back to China and why we didn’t get it last year, but still we end up with a figure that needs re-doing. Why do Super7 employ people who miss things like that when making these? It’s inexcusable.

I thought mumm-ra’s forearms looked odd, too. I think they’re just rotated backwards in the package (the inside of the elbow “hump” on the forearms are facing up and out instead to down and in).
I went back and looked at the pics of the original run, and same as this one, it looks like both grune and maybe mumm-ra have their lower legs switched. The knee cuts don’t seem to align with the sculpt on either, grune’s being more obvious.
Does anyone else collect other Ultimates! lines? Do they usually have a few issues like this per wave?
Haha, i feel like charlie brown trying to kick the football lucy’s got teed up. I fall for it every wave, i’m tellin’ ya!
I’m holding out because i bought the thunder tank, i spent hours and gobs of money on a custom mumm-ra’s tomb, and i’m not afraid to “boil-and-pop” (assuming all the parts are there somewhere) or paint. But man, i’m regretting it at times, especially when i could use more money to spend on other very well painted and assembled things.
Somewhere in san francisco, brian flynn is kicking a tree in frustration.

On closer inspection, I have noticed the issue with Mumm-Ra’s knees. I now understand why this wave was sent back. What I don’t understand is why hardly anything has been fixed. With hindsight, what was the point in sending them back?
I did get some of the TMNT Ultimates. I haven’t noticed much wrong with those apart from slightly loose hips on some of them. That line has been seemingly handled a lot better than Thundercats has so far. I can’t help but wonder if these wave 2 reveals have instantly reduced the lifespan of this toyline. The idea of buying re-issues due to figures being done wrong is quite depressing. It makes the initial figures that were supposed to get us on board with this line and excited for more become obsolete. It would be as though there was no benefit to getting on board with the line and supporting it from the very start. Getting on board straight away is supposed to mean not missing out on the good stuff. Btw, I remember watching ‘The Charlie Brown and Snoopy show’.
It does sound like you’re having a lot of fun with this hobby and when you’re a toy collector who is also a big Thundercats fan, you’re bound to go all in on this toyline because it’s the only Thundercats toyline. It’s also supposed to be Thundercats figures done in a way that many fans have wanted them to be done for a long time. I’d been thinking about Thundercats figures being done in this style since the start of MOTUC but it looks as though Super7 have messed up this wave and that is a massive disappointment. We waited an extra long time in order to ensure that this wave would not have QC issues and that is what we were told would happen. Brian Flynn will be frustrated because he has to trust that these figures will be done correctly at the factory just like people who’ve pre-ordered have to but he’s been let down again, as we have. He sends wave 2 back to China to get it fixed and then the factory don’t even do it when it will have cost money to send them back and get them re-shipped to the US again. He needs a more reliable team at the factory in China because too many mistakes is bad for business and prevents small companies from growing. Brian has the right intentions but often they are not coming to fruition.

The only thing i can see that changed is the mold for tygra’s right forearm. Colors may have changed too, but it’s hard to tell with all the variables involved.
Personally, and this is just me and my conjecture, but all of the ultimates should be made at the same factory or same few factories. Super7 keeps referring to “our factory”. As i understand it, there is a set sequence of events and check points to ensure the factory and the designers and engineers are all on the same page, and that keeps not happening with this line and not others. I’m left to conclude the fault is on the part of whatever team at super7 is responsible for the line - but i also don’t know how the responsibilities are divided up at super7 either.
That’s my 2 cents anyway. There’s holes in it, but it’s my best guess.

…hey guys…i defrosted my account and here i am…
I am really so pissed of with this wave of figures…first of all i had to preorder them to be sure i’ll get them…thank god i didn’t got Grune in the first place. I have to pay 70 euros and 99 for Mumm-ra…thats a lot money…not gonna preorder again …actually i will be of the train wen cheetara comes.
i wanna share my thought for that horrible wave of thundercats. I really like all of as here have nothing against super7 I have many of their figures and i will maybe buy a few more but…i feel cheated…like tygras face ‘’ cheeto-ed’’ they suppose to fix things because what? these are ultimates!!!..yeah they fix Tygras color good…they messed eveything else…and no elbow pad…poor pumyra is like she is blinded by the lights, get off the road pumyra!! mummy mummy…looks neck less maybe no good photo angle…the arms maybe ok maybe not…the legs are definitely not made for walking…or dancing..because he literally has two left legs…grune aouts he came out worse than cheetara…he looks so broken in many ways…and yeap he also looks like he has jackalman feet condition…all of them poor quality plastic and terrible paint jobs…tygras face damn…well i am a painter i guess i can fix that as i did with lion o…I really wanna hear what the reviewers have to say about them…will their opinions be honest and point out the wrongs? or they will turn blind?..i mean there s a lot of free figures at stake! and i really would like to hear from super7 admitting they did shitty with this one…i dont think a booster pack can save these this time…sorry for the big comment…i come in peace

They may very well have changed the arm and colours but to miss the elbow pad really sucks. To me, that’s worse than getting Tygra in the colours that we initially saw in the first image of him. He may have had a very blue costume in that picture but at least there have been episodes where he was a bit on the blue side. He never had a missing elbow pad. I had mentioned in another thread that Tygra’s costume looked grey in quite a lot of the episodes. That would have been fine. I quite like the green but for me, he didn’t need to be. I’m not so particular about that. Blue or grey is also fine for me but the missing elbow pad grates on me a little. I would have rather they gave him the elbow pad and not change the colours than change them and miss the elbow pad.
When I look at Mumm-Ra, I see long legs and a very short torso. It hasn’t totally put me off but it does mean that the figure doesn’t look as good as it could due to strange proportions.
I agree that all the figures should be made at the same factory and that all involved should be on the same page but like you say, it does look as though that is not happening so I’m inclined to believe that your theory may be true. If it is then I really do not understand why. This franchise deserves more respect. It’s underrated.

I believe Brain means their usual factory that produces ReActions. Allegedly Wave 2 like wave 1 was produced at the “Mattel” factory that produced the original run of Thundercats and MOTUC figures. Allegedly Wave 3 and all other waves will be produced at their usual factory.
Strangely enough though there isn’t much difference between figures produced at either factor as aside from qaulity contro issues they are even made with the same glossy waxy plastic.

This is correct, although I haven’t seen Pumyra yet. Grune is one of my favourite characters so I’m disappointed upon seeing that figure in particular. The last delay we had was supposed to ensure that none of this happened and yet here we are.

The majority of more human characters figures on the MOTUC buck body all have strange proportions.

Indeed but we were told that wave 2 got moved to the Super7 factory for re-tooling. What re-tooling? As for Mattel, I don’t trust them in regards to this toyline.

They do but because Mumm-Ra is so tall, it’s even more noticeable when you compare the length of his legs to the length of his torso.

Thats not true. Wave 2 was always at the Mattel Factory. Mattel did not make Wave 2 a priority so it was delayed a long time and then they screwed up on Tygra’s left arm and reversed Mumm-Ra the ever livings forearms which Super7 made them correct, but wave 2 was always at the Mattel Factory. Waves 3 and beyond got moved to Super7’s factory.

I feel like the first two waves are definitely the roughest in terms of quality control. The subsequent waves that have reached people’s hands have been pretty nice overall, in my opinion. These first two waves were transitional maybe, Super7 finding their strider perhaps. I can buy that, just a shame some really great characters got caught up in these initial waves and QC issues abound. I’m not saying other waves have been perfect but they seem more solid to me overall based on what I have seen.

I was thinking, easy fix for Tygra’s elbow pad, Super7 can just sculpt/paint/produce the pad/armband as a single piece and send it out to everyone who ordered and you can easily place it on your figure. That would be a good move perhaps. I hate seeing people upset about this line! So much of it has been great but these fumbles do upset people and the criticisms are valid.

Super 7’s MOTUC figures also had QC issues that were made at the “Mattel” factory and they then had their usual factory make then when those figures had just as bad if not worse issues they started using the Mattel factory again…
You are correct though as I recall it being said by Super 7 that the wave 2 figures were going to be re-tooled at their factory…but I guess since there is quality control issues again that they must have just been done at the “Mattel” factory…
So Super 7 either admit their usual factory messed up or that they lied again to their customers about finishing the figures at their usual factory.
