Tygra Jealous of Lion-O?

Watching the T-Cats cartoon I always got the feeling through out that Tygra was a bit jealous of Lion-O. I cant recall if it was ever directly eluded to but you can feel a strong sense of bitterness in Tygra’s communication with Lion-O. I believe Tygra secretly wanted to be the lord of the T-Cats but never stooped down to betraying the code of Thundera. Also I always got the sense that Lion-O knew of this deep jealousy…I think in the episode ‘Inflamor’ Lion-O tells Tygra that if he fails he ‘would be lord of the Thundercats.’

Discuss.

I beg your pardon? Tygra jealous of Lion-O? I don’t know about anybody else, but I personally find that hard, if not downright impossible, to believe. The only time I saw Tygra rip-roaring jealous of Lion-O was when Tygra was under the influence of the Key Stone, and no other time.

Pretty much, yeah - I agree with catspat. He did get mad at Lion-O in the Crystal Canyon ep and accused him of using the Eye as a crutch to deflect from his own keystone issues but yeah - that I wrote off as being under the influence and not how he really feels. He was ‘out of character’ for most of that episode as they were trying to make a point with the whole addiction thing.

Otherwise, I never noticed any jealousy.

Me, either. Tygra was probably one of the most loyal of the Thundercats. Or at least that was the impression I got. He’s too noble.

Problay just me then…would make for a great introduction of the Liger thundercat though…um…somehow lol

Well Bengali :bengali: , maybe it is you who sees it, personally I don’t see him jealous, Tygra is the head of the council. He trusts in Lion-O very much, Yeah maybe you could think that for some times that Tygra was mad at Lion-O. However I agree with Catspat and Purrsia when they say that He’s the most Loyal Thundercat.

Secretly I could be a bit jealous of Willa, because She could use the sword of omens once and I wasn’t able in the shifter

WilyKat :wilykat:

I think the reason why the sword didn’t work for Wilykat was because he was trying to summon the full power of the sword by trying to summon the other Thundercats as the role of Lion-O. If you look closer to the Willa scene, she only made the blade of the sword grow and the eye awakening, she never summoned it’s power.

As for Tygra, he was never jealous of Lion-O, if anything, he was more of a father figure to Lion-O. Many times, we’ve seen him advising Lion-O, never showing any desires to be lord of the Thundercats.

Infact, the only one I’ve ever seen desire to be the Lord of the Thundercats, was Grune the Destroyer…which got his butt exiled LOL

You are right Lynxie, but at least Willa made the eye awakening, I failed just like Jackalman did once, was the eye confused with the soul transfer? maybe an explaination. I totally agree with your words about Tygra.

WilyKat :wilykat:

I can’t ever see Tygra being jealous of Lion-O. I think Tygra saw himself as a mentor to Lion-O and wanted to see Lion-O succeed.

I did sometimes feel Wilykat felt some resentment towards Lion-O but not because Lion-O was lord but because he was the same age as Wilykat but he got to become an adult on the trip to Third Earth while Wilykat had to remain a kid. You see it throughout the series, I think, where Wilykat seems especially resentful to be treated like a kid. I think he held some resentment towards Lion-O for that reason. They were the same age.

What episode is the keystone in? I looked through my dvd’s and didn’t see an episode titled that.

CodeofThundera, the keystone is in the episode “Crystal Canyon”, from season 3.

I agree in that I never thought of Tygra as being jealous of Lion-O, and I don’t think there was any hint about it in the series. As a matter of fact, he was one of teh one who trusted and encouraged him the most, and told the others to be patinent with him because, while he grew up phisically, he didn’t do emotionally.

Also, from Wikipedia

Where creators Ted Wolf and Leonard Starr described Panthro’s character as being based on “strength” and Cheetara’s character as being based on “speed,” Tygra’s character was described as being based on “integrity.”
So I doubt he could show any jealousy, being integrity his main characteristic, as it would be somehow hypocrite from him.

I don’t think integrity is the abscence of jealousy. I think jealousy is an emotion while integrity is an action. Integrity sometimes means you do the right thing even when you don’t feel like doing it. However, I still never saw jealousy in Tygra. All the adult ThunderCats seemed pretty content with who they were and their role.

Thanks for letting me know the episode name. I’ll go watch it now.

I understan the difference between jealousy and integrity. What I meant to say is that, guided by teh Code of Thundera, it would have been more honorable to admit or work out the jealousy, rather than just feel it and keep it secret. An upright person would recognize it and try to be better. That’s why I brought the integrity thing.

Not sure if I’m being clear though :frowning:

No, that makes sense. If you are someone of integrity, I think you would recognize your feelings of jealousy if they ever came up and deal with them appropriately rather than let them control you. Tygra never seemed one to me to hold onto a grudge or bad feelings (those were the mutants).

That does make sense; I think if Tygra did feel any jealousy, eventually he would have enough character to admit it and deal with it.

There is some jealousy in the Crystal Canyon episode when he’s obsessed with the Keystone. Snarf clearly hits a nerve with Tygra when he reminds him that Lion-O’s the Lord of the Thundercats. Then later Tygra seems to kind of enjoy the idea of Lion-O feeling threatened by him. Now I don’t think this represents his true feelings, not entirely anyway. More like that the Keystone amplifies and distorts the insecurity we all feel deep down at times.

Jealousy would go against the Code of Thundera, especially the last two - honor and loyalty. It’s not a quality indicitive of a ThunderCat. ThunderCats are noble of heart and purpose. Doesn’t mean they’re perfect nor does it mean they can’t have moments of weakness. I think if they made ThunderCats flawless, it would be hard for them to incorporate the moral lessons they did and would have been more difficult for kids watching to make a connection with the characters. I don’t like flawless characters in anything, they don’t feel real.

I disagree. Jealousy is how you feel, but honor and loyalty have more to do with how you act regardless of how you feel.

Yes. That’s why I said that IF Tygra ever felt jealous, the right thing to do for him was to work it out.

I know that in “Crystal Canyon” he gave the impression to be jealous of both Lion-O and Panthro (“everybody thinks Pantrho is Mr. Fix-It…”), and he might have been a little, that’s natural, but I don’t think he was JEALOUS of them.

On a side note, let’s not confus jealousy with envy. Envy is a very strong, “negative” feeling, in which the person who envies the other person because of somehting he/she has, would rather destroy him/her if he could not have it. Fir teh envious, it’s better if nobody has what he/she wants if he/she can’t.

Jealousy, on the other hand, doens’t imply destructive feelings.

Envy is a more primary feeling, and implies a diadic relationship; jealousy is a more “mature” feeling, and implies a triadic relationship. Psychoanalytically speaking, envy strats when the baby envies the mother for having the breat that feeds him, and would rather destroy it because he/she can’t have it; jealousy starts later, when the father enters the picture and teh baby feels threatened his/her relationship with the mother.

So, for Tygra, or any other TC to be somehow jealous, it would be normal (maybe even healthy), but to feel envy would have been really bad.

Anyway, as far as I think Tygra was indeed a little jealous of Panthro (not Lion-O), it wasn’t a really strong feeling; I think it was due more to his insecureness than to his jealousy that he felt that way.

Tygra_Rules, I agree with you on the envy thing. Tygra wanted to be recognized for things he could do, like Panthro was at “fixing things.” The things Tygra did do with the Key Stone was for the good of the others. He fixed vehicles and defended the Berbils.

One thing that I thought was strange in the end of the episode was the gift Panthro gave Trygra, a scepter. Shouldn’t a scepter have gone to Lion-O? He already had a crown. A cool scepter would have made a nice matching set. LOL.

I think they’re all intertwined.

Jealousy is an emotion but emotions affect attitudes and behaviors, sometimes rearing their ugly head when we least expect it so that we can even surprise ourselves that we didn’t realize we had a negative emotion running as deep as it was.

If I’m jealous, I may act on it but it could also cause me to not do what I know I should.

Honor is also wrapped up in emotion. Actually, I should look up the definition of that word because it’s perplexing me a bit at the moment but it’s late, I’m tired, and I don’t feel like reaching 2 feet to grab my dictionary.

Loyalty also begins with emotion.

So I’m thinking they’re all tied up with emotion and action connecting.

I may be rambling a bit too much now, I am really tired.

Right, his intentions were good, the problem was when he started thinking all his power came from the Keystone, instead of believing in himself.
