I don’t think Tygra was envious… as I said, that’s a very strong negative, destructive feeling.
But I do think Tygra might have felt he never recieved enough credit for what he did or designed, thus generating some resentment on him that he managed to overcome. All the things Panthro built for the sake of others, were first designed by Tygra (if he didn’t come out with the idea; I think except for the Thundertank), but all the credit used to go to Panthro.
On the other hand, I never saw Tygra as the attention-seeker kind of guy (which I did feel from Panthro); he was never “I designed this”, “I did that”; panthro did it all the time. I think Tygra expected some recognition, but didn’t ask for it, and maybe the others took him for granted.
That’s right, and might have been because of what I said above: when he did things on his own, nobody seemed to notice or give credit to him, but with the keystone -even when his intentions were good, as Herald pointed out- he felt he was entitled to the recognition. The problem was that he felt/thought it was due to the keystone that he was good, not that he was good on his own (because nobody ever seemed to let him know that).
Apologies in advance, I’m gonna be a real stickler about this…He can’t be “deeply jealous” of Lion-O only deeply ENVIOUS.
Jealousy is when you have something and feel the need to protect it/keep it to yourself (like being jealous of your girlriend talking to someone else)
Envy on the other hand is when you want something someone else has got (like what you think about Tygra wanting the lordship over the thundercats which Lion-O has).
Sad I know, but it’s one of the most common lingual mistakes I see and it drives me nuts every time! lol.
Jealousy is a 3-perons relationship, envy is a 2-persons one.
In envy, there’s something other has that you want, and if you can’t get it, you’d rather see it destroyed than letting someone else having it.
Jealousy is a more “mature” feeling, it comes with the oedipus complex (envy is pre-oedipical), and is when you’re afraid to lose what you have to another person.
So yes, IF Tygra felt something towards Lion-O, it might have been envy; then again, I never sensed that vibe from him.
Thanks! and yeah to be honest I never sensed the vibe, he was always the mature, level-headed one and I felt those petty feelings would be beneath him (to show anyway, maybe not to feel).
He can’t be “deeply jealous” of Lion-O only deeply ENVIOUS.

Well, I’m going to disagree with you a little there, bolowhip. I sense Tygra would have been Lord of the ThunderCats if not for Lion-O. So I think there’s a chance in that for him to feel a jealousy of something that could have been his? Maybe not, just thinking out loud.

Oh, I don’t know, Tygra Rules. If I’m envious of yours and bolowhip’s friendship, wouldn’t that make it a 3 person envy?
That’s because you can’t feel envious of my friendship with Bolowhip, but you might feel jealous about it
Unless you’d like Bolowhip or me to be just your friend and nobody else’s, and would rather see him/me having no other friends at all than sharing him/me with other people, then we could be talking about envy.
What I say is, psychoanalitically speaking, envy is a more primitive, negative and destructive feeling than jealousy that involves a 2-persons relationship, which is mo mature, and not necessarily negative or destruictive, and involves a 3-persons relationship.
Think of it in usual language, you don’t say “I’m envious of their friendship”, you say “I’m jealous of their friendship, of the time they spend together, the secrets they share, etc.” You can be envious of a person for having some characteristics that make him/her more likable, easy to get friends, etc., so you want those characteristics for yourself, that’s envy (it involves just you and him/her); but when his/her friends come into the picture, anmd you want them to be your friends also or to share with you as much as they share with him/her, then you’re jelaious of that friendship (see? 3 persons).
I may not say, “I’m envious of their friendship.” But I might say, “I envy them for the friends they have in their life.” Would that be any different?
I think a lot of time people will say they envy something someone has without there being a deep seated emotion involved with it. Just one of those things people say without real meaning to it. Typically, if someone were to tell me they envy something about my life, I wouldn’t think much of it, I might actually think it a compliment. But if they told me they felt jealous, I’d think it a little more serious and not a compliment. Hmm…
If you envy them, because of the friends they have in their lives, you are envious of something about them, something they have; no third person is included. See?
Oh dear…what have I started! lol.
Ok I don’t know as much about it as Tygra_rules admittedly but it in the case of Tygra maybe having the lordship if it wasn’t for Lion-O then I’m adement he couldn’t be jealous of (and im wording this carefully!) the fact Lion-O had the lordship status, because Tygra Doesn’t have any sort of ownership of it (or Lion-O) he can’t be jealously protective of it, only evious because he wants something he hasn’t got!
Phew…
The only thing he could be jealous of is maybe having to share his ‘friend’ Lion-O with the job of being lord of the TCats or something, but that’s not what I think was meant.
I think bottom line, Tygra never felt jealous or envious of Lion-O. I got the impression he was content with his role. Now Wilykat on the other hand, he seemed to struggle more with feelings of jealousy or envy.
That’s possible, that youre jealous not necessarily of a person, but of an object or activity that takes that person away.
Bottom line, again, is jealousy involves 3: the jealous person, the thing he/she wants, and what takes it away.
That’s also true. I never felt asny vibe of jealousy or envy from Tygra (maybe a bit in Crystal Canyon, but I wouldn’t consider it a usual state of him).
I don’t count Crystal Canyon since he wasn’t in his right mind. If he displayed some kind of envy or jealousy when he was in his right mind, then I’d question it. I can’t think of any other ThunderCat besides Wilykat who I can think every displayed either of those. When the kittens ran away and heard the older Cats calling for them, Wilykat thought it would be good to make them suffer but Wilykit felt it wrong.
BTW, I thought that to be an odd episode. The kittens were in trouble and they were arguing with the older Cats that they weren’t being fair to let them invite their new friend back with them, and the older Cats caved in? It felt odd to me that the kids in that situation would have such an upperhand. Anyway.
