The crew already confirmed that Tygra is adopted. He is not biologically related to Lion-O or Claudus.
It has been established that Tygra is indeed adopted, both the show’s producers, Larry Kenney and Matthew Mercer have mentioned Tygra is adopted and even in the show Grune says Tygra is not part of the royal bloodline, so Claudus was not his blood but still his father. I’m personally glad Tygra is NOT blood related makes Lion-O and Tygra’s dynamic even more complex and makes it even more understandable Tygra’s insecurities, plus I’ve always hated when things take a Disney-esque turn like that (Lady and the Tramp for ex, how the heck does a purebred ****er spaniel and a schnauzer type dog produce 3 purebred ****ers and a schn mix?!) genetics do not work that way and if they did Tygra wouldn’t look all tiger at all.
Yes, you are wrong ![]()
I keep in mind the Cheetara plot is secondary, just to highlight the competitive nature of their relationship.
Don’t get me wrong, I like them being brothers, but I also think TPTB are taking the brothers’ rivalry too far, as if they couldn’t have had any good moments. That’s why I say sometimes I think it would have been better not to make them brothers.
That’s something else. TPTB have said Tygra was adopted, and therefore we have to stick to that, but there has been no mention about that in the show. Tygra not being of “the right bloodline” doesn’t necessarily mean he was adopted.
Here’s another theory: Tygra and Lion-o share the same mother, but not the same father. Tygra’s mother was left by her husband, or a widow, whatever, and Claudus fell in love and married her, “adopting” Tygra as his son, even gave him his name (what we call here a paternal recognition). Then, some years later, Lion-o was born. Then yes, Tygra wouldn’t be in the royal bloodline, would have been adopted -by Claudus only-, and would still be Lion-o’s brother.
I know it sounds like “then Lion-o would have told Tygra ‘we call the same cat mother’ instead of ‘we call the sam cat father’ in the Astral Plane”, but given the importance this show seems to give to female charatcers, it doesn’t surprise me they left behind the mother. Claudus was somehting like God I think lol
darwins grab bag
good comments. my one thing to add as disney esque as it seems, sometimes what you describe in lady and the tramp does happen. Its uncommon when some one gets the recessive genes grab bag and none of the dominant ones, but sometimes dice rolls this way. I’m a poster child of this. My mom, brother, uncle and grand parents all look alike- I took after my dad and don’t look anything like the rest of my family. When my father passed away and we moved, all the new neighbors asked my mom if I was adopted. when my mom said no, I don’t know if everyone believed her. guess I rolled a one.:yikes:
i 100% agree with everything you just said and i thank you for mentioning about the producers taking the brothers rivalry too far. it seems like they really don’t get along at all. like i mentioned in an early post, brothers fighting over the same woman is so wrong and it’s not a good message to send to our young viewers. i don’t know if you were being sarcastic about the comment of importance of female characters in the series, but i don’t like how they use the female characters only as love interests or for plot devices for the male characters. even in legacy episode, the female panther didn’t play much of a role, rather she was just another love interest for leo.
That’s what I’m saying. Brothers fight and argue, that’s ok. But even adopted brothers create a bond of love and support with each other. I know we’ve seen that from Tygra (and some might say Lion-o as well, I’m still not 100% sure of that), but their words always refer only to how bad they get along. I know trhat actions speak more than words, but still…
And I wasn’t being sarcastic. I really think they’er not giving female characters a great development / importance. To start with: where is/ has been Lion-o’s mother? Thye only time I’ve heard that word (“mother”) in the show was when Kit told the Elephant guy that her mother taught her that lullaby.
That would make Tygra and Lion-O step brothers not adopted brothers. If you marry someone’s mother it’s not considered adoption because you’re marrying into the family. Adoption is supposed to be a permanent inclusion into the family. Claudus wouldn’t necessarily have permanant rights to Tygra if they had just gotten married. For example if he just married Tygra’s mom, had they gotten divorced, he’d no longer have rights to Tygra.
I disagree with that. Panthera being Leo’s girlfriend seemed more of an afterthought in the episode. She helped him release the prisoners, helped him retrieve the stone and helped him get the sword of omens. Honestly it seemed to me like she was the mastermind behind the whole rebellion instead of Leo.

also I disagree that Lion-O and Tygra never have any good moments. they’re rare, but they’re there. For example the race at the beginning of episode 10 seemed like a friendly race without any serious antagonism between them, and in episode 11 Tygra does try to talk to and support Lion-O.
You’re right it does happen but with a lion and a tiger mating trust me its usually more obvious there’s a mix there (ever seen a liger? Or even a tiglon?), besides wouldn’t it make more sense to call Tygra Lygra if his mother were a lion? LOL. I would also think Tygra would also be as large as Claudus, Grune or Panthro if the producers had made him a crossbreed of the two, tiglons and ligers get enormous! I REALLY want to find out what happened to Tygra’s biological mother and father.
I know. That’s why I mentioned “paternal recognition”. I don’t know if you have that figure in the US, but that’s when a man, who is not a kid’s father, marries his/her mom and gives him/her his last name. Like, Mr. Smith marries Ms. Watson, who already has a kid, and they make the paper work so little Watson is now little Smith. It’s not adoption properly, but it’s a sort of.
Me too! Do producers read these boards? I hope so, so they can take our wishes in count.
About how big can ligers (breed of lion and tigress) and tigons (breed of tiger and lioness) get, thing is ligers get huge because they never stop growing. That’s because the growing gene is dominant in both lions and tigresses, so they get 2 dominant growing genes, while tigons don’t grow too much becuase the gene is recessive in both tigers and lionesses, so they get 2 recessive growing genes.
And yes, I’m a smartass ![]()
They do, but the story is already largely laid out and the first 26 episodes at the very least are already written and recorded. So they read our feedback, but it’s kinda too late to include story ideas from us (if they were even legally able to, which I doubt.)
How dare you! ![]()

Tell you what, we’re only 13 episodes into this thing. If this plays out the way it looks like it will, then by episode 30 - if not sooner - Lion-o and Tygra being made brothers will make perfect sense in regards to the need of the storyline. Bank on it!

As someone else has pointed out already, that would make Tygra and Lion-o half-brothers. From a story-telling standpoint that’s a very significant detail and I would think the brothers would know they were related that way and indicated such by now. Besides, such a connection adds unnecessary melodrama to a very straightforward concept.
I agree and the American people agree. ![]()
Ive heard both J.K Rowling and Greg Weisman didn’t/don’t read fanfiction to protect themselves legally. On the Comic book resource forum author Gail Simone mentioned that a poster had a very good idea regarding a title she was working on, but it being posted and her replying to it both made it darn near impossible for future cannon.
What I dont understand is why that should be a problem. Fanfic writers do not write for monetary gain, and most establish a disclaimer in their fics. It would be shady to copy and paste a fanfic writers ideas, but why should that be a problem legally? These are not their characters, they did not create this world or work to establish the people in it. Eh, who hasn’t read a really good, no amazing fanfic, and wished it was cannon?
Speaking of JK Rowling, I think she took a lot of her ideas for HP from LOTR. Dementors - Ring Wraiths, Dumbledore - Gandalf, Harry - Frodo, Ron - Sam, Neville - Pippin, Harry’s scar - Frodo’s ring. Only I think wizards fighting with staffs (LOTR) looks cooler than wizards fighting with wands (HP).
Anyhoo, that was off topic.
But really, how much can we keep saying about Tygra without anything new?
^I have a feeling we could go on forever, with almost nothing to work off ![]()
I don’t mind too much seeing similar elements in different cannons. What more can we say, which is some shape or form, hasn’t been said already? Makes it all the more sweeter when something new and innovative does come along. It’s when their entire story is one trope after another, that just leads to me becoming disinterested. Thats also why making sure your characters are relatable and dynamic is so important, imo. The less generic and stock they are, the more new and original your story looks.
It’s because they can be sued. Even if fanfic writers aren’t doing it for the money. If there was a fanfic, and someone adapted the ideas specifically from that fanfic into an actual show, whoever wrote the fanfic could sue the company that makes the show for stealing their ideas/stories.
That’s why a lot of authors don’t read them. They can’t. That’s why a lot of comicbook publishers say they don’t take “unsolicited” scripts. i.e if they don’t ask for it, don’t send it. If someone sends it they’ll throw it in the paper shredder without reading it.
I can definitely understand why some writers don’t read other peoples works regarding the story because eventually what happens on some subconscious level a few ideas of someone else’s can make it into your story completely by accident, I myself am just a fanfic writer and I try my best not to read too much of other people’s stuff lest it begin affecting my own. Sometimes it was soo long ago an artist read a book, watched a movie, listened to a song and suddenly they have this amazing original idea only its already been done. Happens all the time, a lot of mainstream artist have accidently done it once or twice, the Black Eyed Peas are probably the biggest offenders I know.
Besides fanfic writers don’t write for money true but let me tell you I’ve had many of my works copied and it leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
I’m not all that familiar with patents or copyrights, but I never really thought it could/should be applied to something like fanfiction. I mean hell, the fanfic writers are using someone else characters and manipulating them into something fitting their own ideas and imagination. Yet, its not for money so yeah.
I dunno. I guess its because I see most things fannon like a free for all. Its hard to establish rights to something thats not really your own. Yes, it would be really uncool to copy and paste ANYONE’S work. I just never really thought it should or could really be applied to something like fanfiction.
I’m not saying it would be nice or remotely acceptable. I just struggle to see it as grounds for a court case.
Oh well, I can animate these fanfics in my head.![]()
Absolutely my friend fanfic writing definitely isn’t grounds for a court case I just can understand the need for any proud writer to protect their content, of course there’s going to be a sharing of certain concepts or ideas I just mean the types of things that are VERY original being copied and pasted sucks was more what I was saying.![]()
well really fanfic writers pretty much have to do it for free. If they were making money off someone else’s characters they run the risks of being sued as well even if the stories are their own.
Now seems a good time to point everyone to the Organization for Transformative Works and FanLore, and you will see the current thinking on the legality of fan fiction. I will say, since changes to the copyright laws, basically, and because of Disney, copyrights are excessively long.

Oh, and I think in NS they are adoptive, not blood brothers. I also think Tygra would have to have been taken into Claudus’ court as a baby. If he were older, he would not consider Lion-o, per se, as his “brother”.
Many fan fics, including my own, have had Tygra enter Claudus’ household an orphan.
