it’s actually quite funny how they do parallel each other. it’s really funny how liono doesn’t want the throne while the tygra desires it. i wish tygra would realize that it’s not because he’s not good enough that he can’t rule but because he isn’t part of the bloodline. i kind of wish they weren’t related in the series but are almost like childhood friends.
That is something interesting. The whole night at the banquet in the first episode, Lion-O was being a little bit petulant. He saw Tygra getting attention and goaded him. Tygra then gloats and derides him when he won. They both acted very childishly.
the way i see it, anyone or thing that the brothers come across, they will always fight over it. im curious to see what will happen next season if another female cat is introduced in the group. knowing both their personalities, they will probably claim her as their own which will lead to another fight. i think those two were very spoiled growing up and they still don’t see the big picture yet.
Lion-O doesn’t want the throne? What?
Saying someone cant rule because of their genetic composition is uncool. That, and it takes away from Lion-O. Do you think the sword chose Lion-O because he was a Lion? Or because Lion-O has something inside of him that makes him the one true wielder ?
Grune was not related to Claudus, nor was he Lion. He still wanted to rule. It something I loved about his character. He saw that he could be just as great as any Lion. Lions ruling was law in Thundera. That doesn’t mean it makes a lick of sense or that they were right to prevent other cats from trying.
Neither one would claim a new female character as their own. You make sound like Tygra doesn’t give a flying duck about Cheetara, who he has admired his whole life. Same with Lion-O. As if he would jump at any *****cat that comes his way. They don’t fight about every juncture, they only fight when it’s about something that’s important to them. Mostly pride.
For the record, Lion-O hasn’t once said he didn’t want to be king. If anything he has sorta lorded it over the others a little with his whole “I’m the king, and that’s a command” schtick. Someone who doesn’t want to be king wouldn’t do that.
he is acting according to the situation at hand. most of the times he made that statement, he was blinded by rage or revenge for his fathers death. i just realized that i don’t ever recall tygra mourning claudus death.
Tygra’s just more quiet about that than Lion-O. I mean watch the beginning of Ramlak Rising. Tygra watches the funeral pyre way longer than the others do.
I dont see how his behavior in Old Friends had anything to do with his father. He was feeling entitled to everyone’s loyalty and respect because he is the King. Not because he knew what he was talking about, but because he thought everyone should follow his orders.
Tygra mourns for his father and their kingdom when they were trapped in the cell during the premier, and also during the funeral scene.
iI posted this in another thread. I think making them (adopted) brothers ruined the show. Making them childhood friends would have been better (maybe Tygra was general’s son and training himslef to become one, so he could still have met Cheetara while “on guard” ;)), the love triangle could have still been there, Lion-o could still be jealous of Tygra’s skills, and Tygra jealous of Lion-o’s position.
that would have been a better origin story for them. then the whole cheetara thing won’t seem weird because to me, brothers fighting over a girl is not cool nor is it a good message to send to young viewers.
heck if their target audience is 6-11 most of the boys watching won’t even like girls yet.
I wholeheartedly disagree. Making Tygra and Lion-o brothers was a stroke of genius. Having them so related ups the ante in ways that having them be friends never could. And it allows the story to unfold in ways that would otherwise have been impossible or awkward.
Plus, their being siblings gives Tygra legitimate access to the throne room and its responsibilities. It would have bent suspension of disbelief in unnecessary ways to see Tygra fighting at Claudus’ side, sitting at the royal table and having an affinity for Grune just because he and Lion-o were long-time friends.

Although I’m sure the producers would have found other ways to reflect those dynamics had they decided to make them best friends.
besides if they were best friends, I really don’t think they would have been arguing nearly as much.

Being someone’s best friend doesn’t take away feelings of jealousy.
Tygra could still have been jealous of his friend the Prince who got everything he wanted and, to his eyes, gave it for granted while he (Tygra) had to work hard to get what he wanted. Lion-o, on his side, could have been jealous of Tygra’s skills for combat and, if they made Tygra the son of a general, Claudus could have still picked him up as an example to compare Lion-o to, which would have been even harder for Lion-o as Tygra wouldn’t have been related to Claudus at all.
they don’t only fight about the crown and cheetara. they also argue about tactics and what the group should do. they don’t really listen to each other. best friends would at least be able to talk to each other about things like that.

If they had just been best friends there would have been no need to reflect those dynamics because they wouldn’t exist: they would be best friends. They’re relationship would be based on a decision rooted in commonality and growing fealty. We choose our friends, not our family. While there would be hostile competition between friends for a mate, there would be no other grounds for it unless - as in the case of Panthro and Grune - one side betrays the other in a manner that cannot be easily forgiven, if forgiven at all.
Having Tygra and Lion-o be best buds instead of brothers would reduce the tension in their relationship to petty Beverly Hills 90210 angst, and TPTB have made it clear that they are aiming for something higher.
Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems as if you are viewing Lion-o and Tygra’s relationship strictly through the prism of their affections for Cheetara. If so, that’s a mistake. The issue with Cheetara is but a canvas to display the dynamics of the brothers’ relationship. And it’s one of many because their relationship is so complex.
Take Cheetara off the table and something else would come along to trigger the hostility between the two to the point of boiling over, again. That’s what you get when you have unresolved issues between family members. Such tensions don’t exist between best friends because - once again - they’re best friends.
I too like the brothers thing, though I wish it were a bit more clear about their familial relationships. [Is Tygra adopted, or can cats have offspring of other cat races? (tigers vs lions?, for example)]
