After much thought and the recent acquisition of pictures from an actual Mad Bubbler clay sculpt i believe we should get the prototypes page up very soon. I spoke to Kyle and came up with the best with a way to display it to mirror also the toy guide and have uniformity.

Here’s the possible end results:

Main prototype page:

–Brief prototypes intro
–Names for figures with links to each with its own page

Figures page:

–Picture on left
–Details on right:

For example:

Mad Bubbler

Assortment #: 3580
Pack: 12 per case
Title:Ram-Pagers
Description: (Can come up with description as to what the speculated battle action is, perhaps also do a brief explanation on clay sculpts)

As Manny has mentioned we have a new section ready for upload. Neil if you would be so kind as to write an introduction for the prototype section we can get this online at the same time as the Encyclopedia. I also have some wallpapers to go up as well..

This would be awesome as we can hit the fans with a substancial update, with more to follow soon :slight_smile:

Will try and get that done asap.

On a side note, you might want to move Mad Bubbler over to the ‘figures’ header because he was pictured in the catalogues as a Rampager along with the Driller and Stinger. He looks to be only slightly bigger than those two, but being pictured with them would class him as a figure rather than a creature in my opinion.

How’s this:

[B]As many LJN and Thundercats toy fans know, LJN had an habit of advertising future toys before they were on the manufacturing floor. Due to this, items such as weapons that appeared in early catalogue pictures were different to what turned up on shop shelves. A good example of this is Cheetara’s baton. This was a red colour in the first LJN catalogue, but when available to buy it had been changed to the orange colour we know of today!

Then there are the toys that were advertised, but never produced to buy in any form. The release of the second mini catalogue (see Mini catalogues page, perhaps a link here Kyle to that page!) with each released series 3 toy had pictures depicting future toy releases. This is the reason why we got to see such ‘Prototypes’ that were meant to be be manufactured, but just didn’t quite make it to store shelves. Years later clearer pictures had surfaced of these Prototypes through the acquirability of the original LJN dealer catalogues (see dealer catalogues page) containing bigger/better pictures than those in the mini catalogues.

All of the toys featured in this Prototypes guide were never released for sale in toy stores and are only known to exist in Prototype form. At the moment the only Prototype that is still known to exist outside of catalogue pictures is the Feliner vehicle.[/B]

Some of the text is re-used from my old Thundercats site. Feel free to add or change any of this. I’m also not fantastic at puncuation, so if any of that needs changing, feel free to amend it! :slight_smile:

Looking good, I can’t believe how quick that guide has been put together! :eyepopping:

Some things to point out though:

Tongue-A-Sauras: Typo, as it says it’s a playset, so needs changing to ‘creature’

also we might want to make it clear that this creature was released minus the hands. It needs making clear that the prototype is the version with the hands, as some new viewers to Thundercats might assume this toy never got a release period. Infact might be cool to add a link to the released Tongue-A-Sauras page on the toy guide.

Mad Bubbler: text about the pics source needs changing to 1987 LJN mini catalogue as someone might think this pic came from the dealer catalogues being as all the other prototypes page reply on pics from the dealer catalogue.

actually this is continuing theme… we need to make people aware of which catalogue the text is talking about. That’s why I used the words mini and dealer to differentiate between the two catalogues thus far. If I were you guys I’d make sure you state which one images came from so nobody gets confused.

Finally, can I just say whoever edited the pics out of the dealer catalogue did an excellent job as they look amazing. I’ve never seen Canon-Blaster and Quick-Jaws looking so detailed in a close up pic! Excellent work!

That 1987 dealer catalogue is definately a beautiful piece to own! :slight_smile:

EDIT: [I]Oh and don’t forget the other prototypes found in the dealer catalogue such as Mumm-Ra with a black cape!

After the conversation on Skype I have updated the page..

  • Added all of the new figure pages with the info we came up with.
  • Changed the title from variation prototypes to weapon and accessory prototypes

Just wanted to make a note here that Mannys 1987 dealer catalogue has pics of Bengali and Pumyra’s prototype weapons in much better quality! See the pic in this existing thread:

How the hell did we miss that? Manny, does the catalogue also show the Mutants (Shiner, Mongor and Safari Joe) with those different coloured weapons or are they the correct versions released?

Kinda a glad I noticed that pic because the pics I gave Kyle for the prototypes page of these weapons were for poor in quality.

We have no choice but to use the poorer quality image of Lynx-o’s shield, but these we should definately use. That why I have my fingers crossed about the page weapons on the Mutants page! :slight_smile:

Cool. Mongor and Shiners weapons are the prototype ones!

So just Safari Joe’s gun and Lynx-o’s shield we will have to make due with using the poorer quality images!

I’m gonna try and take better quality pics of these 2 weapons.

Oh and forgot to mention in the previous message, but the space board prototypes and the yellow/brown coloured Berbil needs adding into the Prototypes guide! Completely forgot about those until I saw that Sears catalogue pic!

Do you have any 22-back cards? As the pic with them holding the prototype weapons is on those.

They might also appear on the back of the Tongue-A-Sauras box as well (though I’m not certain if that contains the updated 22 characters pic or not)

Oh and they are in the pics in the 1987 LJN and 1988 Raindow Toys mini catalogues, but I’m guessing that image of them would be too small to use.

Cool…we’ll use those then. Another thing…Matt came thru, we now have the scans of the 1985 catalog. The figures with the leaping feature are also in there…turns out also that that specific figure was supposed to also come with a sword of omens that “grew”.He will send us also a picture of a prototype Lynx O with unpainted head that used to be part of Andrew’s collection.

Neil, you have to look at all the scans from the 1985 catalog there are several protypes in there that will need adding. For example a mutant vehicle with wheels, 3-D Puzzles, a Thundercats pedal ride on (aka as Big Wheel in the U.S.).If you also look at the Berbils page (companions) the Berbill’s are colored differently than what was released as well as one of them having yellow feet.
