The toys are probably one of my weakest areas of ThunderCats knowledge, but several things I did notice include original names (different to the ones later used) for several of the Beserkers, the Hovercat and the Thunderclaw, as well as the prototypes that you just mentioned, MannyC, such as the different coloured Berbils. Also, the info on the unproduced leaping figures is fascinating - I always wondered why they never produced a smaller version of the Sword of Omens as an accessory for Lion-O, now we know - they were effectively planning to make a deluxe version of Lion-O with a Sword that extended! Seriously, I’m gutted that they never made that - that would’ve been one hell of a toy!
And, we now have more information about the prototype Mumm-Ra with wings - that’s not an early version of the regular Mumm-Ra figure, the version with wings was going to be one of the leaping figures!
Can I just ask, it may well be my imagination but in this catalogue do Hammerhand and Cruncher from the Beserkers have different head sculpts/paint apps, or is it just me seeing things? I’m pretty exhausted today so my eyes are not the most reliable things in the world!
Seriously, with material like this, I feel very confident indeed about the future of this site!
I had only seen a portion of that catalog but when i saw the rest my jaw dropped, LJN had so much more in store for the market and it is too bad that it never materialized. Regardless though it is a very cool catalog…only if we could get our hands on the 1986 catalog. About Hammerhand the only thing different is the belt line, the produced one had black color while the one in the catalog had a purple color.As far as the head sculpt for Cruncher it is slightly different, the one on the catalog has more detailed features. Aha, so that would mean those are two more prototypes then! It seems I’m better at spotting those than I thought!!
I’m so excited to see this stuff coming together, although I think Kyle’s going to be pleasantly mortified to see so much needing adding to the Prototypes page, hee hee…!
Perhaps add something like: According to the 1985 LJN dealer catalogue, there were plans for a mail-away poster promotion (see pic below) However, I have no idea whether or not this promotion actually went ahead or not.
