I did not find any similar post to the forum so this is why i am posting this..I am talking of course about the first thundercats and masters of the universe convention. According to the site it will take place in Los Angeles between the 24th and the 25th of September.

Not to mention that LARRY KENNEY the voice of Lion-O from the original ThunderCats cartoon and the voice of Claudius, Lion-O’s and Tygra’s Father, in the new ThunderCats cartoon is going to be present..
Well, these are two of the most popular cartoons in the 80s. Masters of the universe concept has many fans and they were planning in having this convention years ago. Now, in my opinion the revival of thundercats through the new series in cartoon network is the main reason that they added them in the convention. Probably if no thundercats fans show up they are not going to repeat it i guess. Still, it is a great idea having two of the most popular cartoon-toy series of the 80s together.
My problem with that cover is I feel it’s more in favour of He-Man than both characters having equal billing. Lion-O could be seen as kneeling down to He-Man. That’s the immediate vibe I got from the piece. Personally I’m not a fan of it.
And why is Power-Con so top-heavy with He-Man and She-Ra but so small on ThunderCats? Their headline had me believing it would be 50-50 until I looked at the guestlist and saw that only Larry Kenney, Gerianne Raphael, and Celesta Johnson would be there for a 45-minute talk. I’m sorry, but so little representation for my favorite cartoon doesn’t make this event worth my time and money, so I’m not going.

No, Lynxie, you’re not. The “Cereal Geek” cover goes out of its way to make Lion-O look inferior to He-Man, and to me that’s an insult to the ThunderCats series and its followers. :mad:
Celesta Johnson??? WTF? Granted I love her fan art and I even paid her to do a commission before she jacked up her rates the following month back in 2009. She is not part of the original cast…she’s just another fan like you or me. She is listed there?
She was just a fan that happened to be at the right place at the right time for the filming of “The fans speak out” for the Tcats DVDs. She lives on the West Coast so it was easy for her to attend it.
This isn’t right for a fan to get celebrity status. Don’t get me wrong, I like her but for her to be listed like this, as a celeb at a convention…nah, it’s wrong.
Speaking as a fan of both, I feel the Thundercats are getting the short end of the stick in this convention. To me it seem He-man is getting the top billing here. The speakers, guest and vendors for He-man outnumber the ones for Thundercats.
I agree. I also don’t like their faces. He-Man’s face is all bashed in and Lion-O’s face looks like a deranged clown. The tan color is too dark against the light tan around his eyes and mouth.

Masters of the Universe had a 130-episode animated series, an animated feature film, a 93-episode spin-off series, a holiday special, a live-action film, another 65-episode spin-off series, a 65-episode series continuation, and a 39-episode series re-imagining—each of which had its own line of toys and merchandise.
The membership of He-Man.org alone is six times that of this site.
I think ThunderCats is being represented adequately considering the size of the property and the amount of interest in it.
Ed McGuinness has worked on the comic books of both properties so I do not see any evidence of favoritism.
The Con is mainly being organised by He-Man.org staff. Unfortunately we couldn’t nail down an agreement to participate with the organising of the Thunder-Con portion due to unfortunate circumstances. Otherwise we would have been more directly involved.
I can’t comment nor criticise the amount of guests they have, since it’s certainly possible they contacted all those who worked on ThunderCats, and only the select few we see here actually wanted to participate. I know some of the organisers personally, so I reckon they would have tried hard to get the guests Also remember He-Man has had many incarnations, so they have a bigger pool of talent to pick from
Thing is, we don’t know if Ed McGuinness was given a brief to work to or if it were his own idea from start to finish. I do agree he wouldn’t be biased to either character.
Mumm-Ra_The Ever-Living is correct. The show is more He-Man/She-Ra simply because there’s so much more to pull from for those brands. Believe me, if we could have more ThunderCats representation, we would! There was definitely no shortage of trying on our end to have as much TCats talent there as possible.
We’re laying the foundation for something cool. Let’s hope the new TCats cartoon and toyline does gangbusters. That’ll help blow the door open for ThunderCon’s potential!

Yep, to be honest you were always fighting an up hill battle with ThunderCats. We have to remember even Warner Bros struggled to get interviews with a lot of the talent for the DVD’s! I’m impressed with what you managed to get.
I wish I could attend, and I’m sure other fans in Europe feel the same. If you can attend I’d definately recommend it. You never know if Warner Bros are keeping an eye of the success, which may lead to bigger things in the future
