Omicron from EOT.Net popping in with a proposal. I love the encyclopedia you guys are making here and it got me thinking about putting together a Thundercats Wiki site. It would be a great way to pull all the franchise info into one collective location and make thinks easier to find. Purrisa from Return to Thundera is onboard with the Idea and had this to say:
“Maybe at least the three sites (I think EOT, TCL, and my site are the most active tcats pages at the moment) can work on this as a joint project and then have us all link to the project while keeping our own things (like their encyclopedia or my dictionary) up as well if we want to. Nice thing about wiki software is any fan can help by adding info we forget. We’d just have to make sure, those of us that want to maintain it, that bad info doesn’t stay up and keep spamming and stupidity out of it, too.”

Thanks for considering it. My thoughts are having the wiki run off the EOT server since we use the same database and such but having its own url that way it is still its own thing. I’d like to see it used as a guide for a new series should it actually ever be produced.
Has any one come to any decisions yet. If I can get this started I’d like to know who can help whether it be the full site staff or just a few individuals. If I’m still looming into a hosting site but I’m thinking of going with Blue Host.

I’m still interested, Omicron. We are probably going to be moving pretty soon, and that’ll cut into online projects for the next few months (we have to move and remodel at the same time - fun), but I’m sure the wiki will be an ongoing thing as it grows, so I won’t mind helping out. I’ve not set up a wiki before specifically, but I have had experience in installing various software in the past and that includes some databases. If you need help there, feel free to ask.
I did find out, as I think I mentioned at EOT, that my hosting won’t let me put up a wiki without buying special, seperate hosting…or I’d offer some webspace to at least test drive it in. But if you’re looking into something independent, that’s great. Hopefully, if you’re investing in it then the project will survive.

This is something I would really like to see accomplished so yeah, I’m serious about it. This is something I feel needs done, not only for the fans to find info but as a tribute to the show and the people who worked on it. I personally don’t have much money to invest in hosting and such right now but hopefully when things get going on it that won’t be such a problem. Bluehost.com is relatively low cost and seems to have everything we’ll need to get things running. As far a collaboration between sites, yeah absolutely. I see it as more of a collaboration between the fans. Whether its the fans who run the sites or the fans who just visit them. As long as the info they want to add is accurate and presented in an acceptable manner it’ll be added. There maybe some extra stuff for the major contributors but I haven’t really thought that far ahead yet.

Definitely. When you get a url, let me know and I’ll promote the crap out of it on my site and hopefully get the attention of any fans who happen by and also want to contribute. I can also plant the seed in people’s minds in an upcoming newsletter, too.
I thought the idea was to improve upon whats gone up on the wikipedia site under “ThunderCats”. Why wouldn’t that be the place that people focus efforts on seeings as that its the wiki site with the most traffic?
But how is one to create an in depth wiki encyclopedia about a cartoon that didn’t have much depth to begin with?
I don’t mean to sound like a stick in the mud in this case, but in comparison to some other fandoms (Star Wars/Star Trek/Pokemon/ to name a few examples), the Thundercats do not have a tremendous amount of information and baskstories within its respective fandom that would warrent the need to spend much time and effort in creating an entirely separate wiki encyclopedia of its own.
With this series, you have the basics - races, heros, villians, allies, vehicles, planets, weapons.
And that’s the extent of it. All these above mentioned basics do not have much information about them - like, the schematics on how a vehicle/weapon would work, or background information showing what life was like for the Thundercats on Thundera, or how the Thundercats that we know got their positions in the first place, etc, etc.
There are already sites on the internet that contains all this information. Heck, even in the case of wikipedia, a person with an account could add more info at their discresion.
In all honesty, I think making an entirely separate wiki-encyclopedia would be redundant.
Its true the show itself wasn’t as in depth as others. But the comics offer a little more to the overall story and gives more information about the characters such as Cheetara discovering her super speed and some of the items such as who made the Sword of Omens. Granted there aren’t a lot of back stories but the Wiki would be more than that. I would also like information about the people behind the show as well. Information about Rankin-Bass, the animation company, writers, producers, the music, voice actors and other stuff of that nature. Not to mention all the toys and other products that were made.

This is very true but not one site has everything in a searchable database. That was my main goal, to have everything located on one place. The individual sites can still have exclusive content like some of the chats Purrisa has done or some or the original comic art here at TCL.
Just to take a break from the serious business of a wiki site for Thundercats, here’s something to lighten the mood. Anyone else see this? It’s like wikipedia only not taking itself at all seriously. The tcats section cracked me up! :mischievous:
