Panini comics!! That’s an Italian comic publisher, and have reprinted many of the Marvell US Comics. Why didn’t they give Thundercats to a better and well known publisher, like Dark Horse or IDW?
Panini was famous for the collectible stickers in the past
ThunderCats Magazine No.1 will be on sale Thursday March 22nd priced £2.99, available at all major retail outlets across the UK. Every issue will carry a gift, with the first one being a Sword of Omens. Here’s the polybagged comic and gift below to look out for in the shops:
Don’t like the design of their so called “Sword of Omens,” but I get that they probably had to change the design for legal reasons or something.
Let’s hope the rights issue was the reason and it isn’t a sign of things to come in the show. Having the Sword of Omens “power-up” to look like that would be really lame.
I have to say there are a few things I like and a few things I don’t like about this comic.
I’ll start with the positives. First off the artwork is fantastic, as it is pretty much across the board on this new series from the cartoon to the toy packaging. Second off, I liked the fact that it was an original story, not just a comic version of the pilot cartoon. Finally its THUNDERCATS!!!
However, I did not like the gimmicky ‘free’ gifts, cheap plastic toys that do nothing but add to the price. However, I do understand that this is aimed at children, and they may like that, so I’ll let that slide. What I can’t let slide though is the poor editing, there were a few spelling mistakes, instances where Kit and Kat’s names were mixed up, etc. I mean c’mon, the editors need to pull their socks up a bit don’t they?!?!?! Also, the toy photo comic strip was just lame. I agree that there is a need for things like crosswords, puzzles and letters pages etc (especially the latter) but the balance seemed to be a bit skewed. Make the comic strip longer, much longer lose a few of the gimmicks. Oh, and keep the letters page a letters page with perhaps an occassional drawing if it is outstanding, I do not need to see pictures of someone elses sprog pretending to be a character.
I would like to add my criticisms, whilst may seem harsh on the surface, stem from a deep, deep desire to want this to be a good, quality comic, and to see it continue for a long, long time. I’ve bought the comic (and will continue to do so) to show my support for the new series in the hope that if all of us Thundercat fans, both new and old, do this then the series will continue to grow and develop for a long time to come. :liono

Oh, and I would LOVE to see a Panini sticker album and stickers like I had for the OS when I was a kid! I remember getting the sticker album free with the comic, now THAT was a free gift!!!
Hi blackiecats, me too, I had all the thundercats stickers, took me ages! Haha!
I’m up in merseyside and a lot of places that did have them have sold out but if you go to a local newsagents they will be happy to order them for you?
Yep, same problem here, I’ve not found it anywhere - I’m seriously considering trying eBay! I don’t collect a lot of UK comics but will obviously make an exception in this case!
I finally found it in a local newsagents I hadn’t checked before I haven’t opened it up yet to take a look, but will in the next day or so. Oh mine included the free sweet I think some folks copies didn’t have the sweet?
