If the Thundercats Revamp becomes a reality would you prefer them to retell the classic story or make a completely new story with new characters? :?:
With the Thundercats DVD coming out it’s not like people couldn’t catch up on the series if they were interested. I think the story was handled well and there isn’t much room for improvement. A new story would allow them to do whatever without angering old fans or screwing up beloved characters.
What do you guys think about this?
By “creating a new story” would you mean with new characters or the original characters?
If by that you mean, a new story with the original characters, that’s what I’d vote for. If they are new characters, I would be undecided. I mean, the whole reason they are going to update the series is because of these characters, right? It would be like having a new Masters of the Universe without He-Man or Transformers without an Optimus Prime.
Actually, I know a lot of old fans would probably be upset, but I’d prefer a retelling of the classic. I know it’s a very touchy subject, but with how much we’ve advanced today, I’d love to see updated versions of the classic characters as well as new stories to go with it.

Updating characters is one of the things that worries me the most. With the current state of children’s programming I’d hate for them to change a character to relate to today’s audience. The most problematic character is Lion-O. From what I have seen of programming in the age group the Thundercats revamp would target they do not try to teach anything to children which is an essential part of what Lion-O was. Lion-O was essentially every child watching the show and we were able to learn with him. Would the new series even try to integrate this? If not what would Lion-O be without that? A guy carrying a sword? :?
No problem. I understood the gist of it. 
You bring up an excellent point and I do hope WB takes that into consideration because you are absolutely right – the reason why Lion-O was such an important character for Thundercats was because he was able to grow and learn things just as the children in the 80s did.
I also agree with your opinion about the programming today – in one word, it sucks. The studios look at the wow factor instead of the content factor.
There are definitely a lot of things to consider, but like I’ve noted before, I still believe that the WB can succeed in revamping this series – which could attract both old and new fans alike.
How difficult would it be to pick up from where the original series ended off? The voice actors and the crew would be different, but could they continue the story using the same art style and characters? The younger viewers would be confused, but the older fans would be ecstatic.
I really think that the new series would try to target younger viewers as their primary audience with the old fans as the secondary audience. I’d like it the other way around…but I highly doubt that’s what is going to happen.

I know I’m going to shock everybody here, but if we’re talking about cartoons specifically I actually wish ThunderCats would be left alone. To me, the original series (particularly the first season) borders on my vision of the perfect action-adventure cartoon - whilst I really like the Ninja Turtles update because they’ve taken the mythos in a totally new direction (and the Turtles characters are versatile enough to do that) I didn’t like the new He-Man series because I felt it lacked a lot of what made the original special. 
I’ll be all over new ThunderCats toys like cheese on a pizza, but it’s going to take something special to impress me with a new cartoon - I just don’t see how the original can be bettered!

If they do remake of ThunderCats it should be like the 2002 version of He-Man. They could do a 90 minute special on Kids WB or CartoonNetwork, re-telling the pilot epsiodes(then go on with the series from there).
A little off topic but, If a new ThunderCats series comes out in the fall of 2006, should the new toyline come out before the show airs(just like the new series of TMNT and He-Man) or wait when the cartoon airs then release the new toyline(G.I. Joe Sigma 6)?
It could come out before or after the series starts, but sales would be better if children knew what the show was before the toys hit the shelves.
Adding to that, I think it should be on kidsWB and not Cartoon Network. CN is flooded with original programming and would completely be ignored – unless it was scheduled next to Justice League or Teen Titans.
Even if it were scheduled next to one of those shows it would still be ignored. If memory serves Masters of the Universe was on after Teen Titans and we all know what happened to that show.
But it also was scheduled next to Pokemon.
That should have helped it also. Unless the children no longer embrace Pokemon and I’m not aware of it. :?:
Not if it is reruns. I say put it in between Justice League and Teen Titans.
I am 50/50 I don’t want to see a new re-telloing of the
old stories. I wouldn’t mind too much if the continued from
where the first left off, but what I really want to see is a
prequel series involving Cladus, Jaga, and Grune, where
Lion-O is a cub.
As for Cartoon network Vs. WB I would rather see it
on CN, because in Central Ohio WB was discontinued
five years ago.
Aso I think CN would reach more viewers. WB and CN
are both Time Warner, so most likely it may air on both.
Sad thing is it WILL be marketed to the 6+ age range.
I seriously doubt WB would target such a young demographic. Thundercats has great potential to be an action packed show that will appeal to older children. I think that if Thundercats were revamped it would be on the same level as the Masters of the Universe show.
I can just picture grown fans of the original show fighting at the toystore with little kids over new ThunderCats toys! 8)

I’d sooner they keep all the old characters and carry on the story from where ‘Book of Omens’ left off.
Re-telling the story is a bad idea as you can’t improve on what has already been done. I think that’s where the new He-man cartoon went wrong.

I wouldn’t want it to be years after Book of Omens though, perhaps a few months to a year after those events in that episode.
Well I think that’s the best way to go and keep most people happy.
While that would be the best way to keep classic fans happy I doubt it would be done because WB wouldn’t be able to realistically redesign anything in the series. Those involved with the revamp will surely want to change everything to make the series more accessable for children.
Can you imagine a redesigned Sword of Omens or Thundertank?
