After watching a few SilverHawks episodes on a site, known as Nostalgia Manila (make a Google search for it) I’ve noticed many similarities between SilverHawks and the ThunderCats…especially Mon-Star and Mumm-Ra’s transformation monologues and sequences.
Mumm-Ra had “Ancient Spirits of Evil, transform this decayed form to Mumm-Ra, the Everliving!!”
While Mon-Star had “Moon-Star of Limbo, give me the might, the muscle, the menace of Mon-Star!!”
Very similar, but now that I’ve gotten off topic with my opinion, I will say that the idea of a CGI ThunderCats movie sounds more appealing than a live-action one to me.
I have to agree with you, Ruu-Ben-Gaaru. “SilverHawks” wasn’t a true “ThunderCats” spin-off. For that to happen, Lion-O and a few of the Cats would have had to make a guest appearance on the pilot episode of “SilverHawks”, while conversely the character BlueGrass would have had to make his debut on “Thundercats” before “SilverHawks” was made. I never saw “TigerSharks”, though I did see a number of “SilverHawks” episodes. I can vouch that “SilverHawks” pretty much mirrored “ThunderCats”, so you can safely say “ThunderCats” was the template for “SilverHawks” and very likely “TigerSharks” as well. All three shows came out of the Rankin/Bass stable.:bengali:
CatSpat, it was good, but not as much as the ThunderCats because of the similar formula that the producers used to write and produce the SilverHawks. If you think about it, Mon*Star and Mumm-Ra are very, very similar villains. The same goes with S-s-s-slythe and Yes-Man. Hell, S-s-s-slythe and Yes-Man are voiced by the same voice actor for Pete’s sake!
I was a big fan of Silverhawks growing up. I was surprised just HOW BAD it actually was when I saw a few episodes a few years back on Cartoon Network. Makes me wonder if thats how some people view Thundercats… :?
I respect your opinion, Ruu-Ben, and you’re right in that the actors for ThunderCats voiced the characters for SilverHawks; Earl Hammond did Mon*Star as well as Mumm-Ra, while Larry Kenney voiced BlueGrass. But I couldn’t get into SilverHawks because it was too much like ThunderCats and, like you said, not as good. As I see it, the writers were stretched on SilverHawks and no doubt on TigerSharks. As a result, there were not enough good story ideas to go around and ThunderCats received the bulk of them.:bengali:
Doubtless, some people do see ThunderCats as bad. That’s to be expected since I’m sure that not everybody liked the show.:bengali:
If they decide to go back to the idea of a live action flick, I have a new possible actor to play Mumm-Ra. After the primaries I have a feeling this man will be looking for work anyway.
I like that, he does have a similar resemblence to Mumm-Ra. I was reading that French article and I’m surprised that Warner Bros. is actually doing a ThunderCats movie.
If the movie is CGI, I hope it is not like the new TMNT movie(cartoony looking)but the new Thundercat movie to be(live action looking in a CGI way).Hopefully in 3 years CGI animation would be looking a bit more real than it is now.
Guys all we can do is wait for something concrete. It’s a hint of hope but reality is that we have all been dissapointed for years already. The movie news came from Variety and as far as we know nothing has been said directly from Warner Bros. Now if warner releases some sort of press release or an official announcement then for all we know the Variety news may be just pure speculation.
I guess i just dont want to be dissapointed thats all

Back on topic, even though its’ highly unlikely, it would be really cool if they could get the animation team who did “Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children” for this. If nothing else, the fight scenes would awe inspiring.
That’s not going to happen. Square Enix is a game company and they only made Advent Children for the hardcore FFVII fans. That was probably their first and last movie…the studio that did Final Fantasy: Spirits Within closed down since that movie was pathetic.
Well, maybe a team that does similar stuff like them then.. I’m afraid of it lookin like the recent TMNT and it being like those Final Fantasy films is the only way I would except a Thundercats CGI movie. I still say lets go for live action
No, I’d rather see CGI over live-action any day. It’s too bad that no one either can’t or won’t consider a traditionally animated movie of the ThunderCats. That would be a joy.:bengali:
