Remember “Planet of the Apes”?
I remember that movie.. they filmed it out in the desert not too far from me. Good makeup and CGI.. but I give the story an 8 out of 10.
What both Mitts and I worry about is this kind of makeup job.

Hollywood has a bad habit of low balling decent movie ideas (think SciFi original movie effects) when there isn’t a big name attached, or when the accountants don’t project a $50-100 million opening weekend.
Anyone explain this?

Is this article a Spoof? Those look like real actors. Well it must be since WB officially announced it was CGI.
:jaw: Wow… Hugh Jackman as Lion-o… uh, Jessica Simpson as Cheetara. Michael Clarke-Duncan as Panthro… hmm, actually a pretty nice pick.
Ok, if that isn’t a spoof.. and I pray it is… I’m not even going to bother going in the theater. It’ll save me the time of having to walk out 15 minutes later.
Yeah - the special effects/makeup in the recent POTA was rather good - but then, we evolved from apes, so it’s not all too hard to make a human appear more apelike and it come off as believable.
We did not evolve from cats, so it would look ridiculous to see a human dressed up as a felinoid.
If that artcile were legit, I think I could handle Micheal Clark Duncan as Panthro, easily. Hugh Jackman would be better slated for Tygra (due to age and voice).
But Jessica Simpson as Cheetara? ::twitches:: Yeah, already they’d be insulting Cheetara’s character by having that no talent bubblehead portray her. XP
I was thinking something along the same lines, but when you put it like that, I completely agree!
As far as X-Men goes remember they were Human. Just as some people have red hair Beast has blue hair. He just has more of it.
As far the live action vs CGI debate I can go either way but I lean toward CGI more. With the right people doing the make-up effects, I’m thinking Rick Baker, it would look great. I’m just not sure how well they could capture the look and feel of Third Earth and Thundera. With pure CGI they can do just about anything they need to do and have as many of the original voices as possible return. But I vote for a combo like they did with 300 and most of Star Wars EPIII. Live actors placed in a mostly CG set. That would allow for amazing shots and sequences not traditionally available with live action.
The esquire article is a spoof. It says it at the bottom of the article. Although I’d like to see Duncan as Panthro he’s just to big. Panthro was extremely muscular but was also on the short side. Well at least shorter than Lion-O.

To be honest, I’m embarrassed to say that I’m not that familiar with Jessica Simpson as an actress, so I wouldn’t be able to comment - but, I was only messing about with my comments above! I agree with you that the role of Cheetara is vitally important to the property and one that it’s very important to portray correctly - she needs to be both feminine and yet very strong and capable, a very fine balance. I hope that if this TCats movie does get made, it will be put together by folks who really understand the characters…

Oh Jessica Simpson is nice to look at, and as a model, she could look the part pretty well, but you’re not missing much by having never seen her acting. Some things are better seen and not heard

Indeed. I can’t see Jessica Simpson being Cheetara any more than I can see Pee Wee Herman doing Mumm-Ra. The ex-Mrs. Nick Lachey has no appreciable talent at being anything other than the ex-Mrs. Nick Lachey. 'Nuff said.:jaw:

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that a movie will get made… it will be CGI and it’ll be in theaters within 3 years. You can count on script changes, casting highs and lows, delays, and disappointed fans.
But Warner wants to capitalize on the trend and appetite for 80s franchises and they need to do it quickly. They won’t do it particularly well, but we’ll get a T-Cats movie made… and we can only hope that all of these rookies can pull it off!
I second that, Mark. But my big wish is that the film will be good enough to inspire WB to jump-start the cartoon series. I won’t be able to influence how they go about it; I can only give my opinion as to what I would like to see. But I want the show back.:bengali:

Personally, I would rather it be totally CGI than have live action elements to it.
It should definitely be CGI, Ruu-Ben-Gaaru. I’m still not 100% sold on it; I guess I’m just too much a fan of traditional animation. But I would much rather the “ThunderCats” film be computer animated than life. Live-action would simply not do it justice and run a very good chance of making it look ridiculous. My late father once pointed out something that I have never forgotten: You can do so much more with animation than you can with live-action. And I have agreed with his assessment ever since.:bengali:
That variety article had wrong information regarding the series. It said that the series spawned several TV shows, which is false. It had only one television show, if I am not mistaken. A Thundercats movie is good. I could care less if it’s Live action or CGI, but CGI would defininetely catch my attention more. I would see the movie no matter what. It’s a Thundercats movie, and that’s all that matters to me. I realize that the film may very well get butchered, and I honestly don’t know how well it’ll survive, but a movie in any form is good news, at least to me, regardless of it’s outcome. An effort is being made to revitalize a series that hasn’t been seen on Television since the 90’s. I saw the show in its reruns, when I was younger, and having seen it then allows me to tollerate a movie in any form. However, I am of a younger audience than most all on this board. I could be the youngest of all. How many teenagers adore TCats? But anyway, a movie is what I want to see, and it’s actually a very smart way to kick-start a new cartoon. In some cases, the movie acts as the “pilot”, and it’s generally aired on TV or something followed by the first “episode”. A new series could follow in the wake of the movie, depending on how the movie ends. If the movie is an origin story, then a new series would have to begin a new there.
I think you could technically argue that the success of ThunderCats for Rankin Bass led to the creation of Silverhawks and Tigersharks also.
