So, the all-knowing, omniscient @EyesWideOpen, what is the cause for this miraculous (if not inconceivable) decline in ratings for a whole block of television? You of all people should know this.
The decline could just show that either as one of you said that school and other stuff is starting or.. They just don’t want to watch anymore.
I like this show for what it is but it’s far from perfect. Many if not all of my friends gave this show a chance but did not like it in the end and could be the same happening here.
Those making excuses for the performance of the show are the same people who were adamant that the series was not cancelled. They interpret the evidence to support what they want to believe instead of accepting how things really are.
What’s the difference anyway. The show is canned, and has been moved to a programing block that runs end of life shows. Arguing about the ratings is like arguing about how to arrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
It increases the chances of the show officially continuing in comic book form.
But what would be a logical reason for the sudden decline in ratings for the whole block if it was not students returning to school or work? This is all I’m trying to ask here and no one seems to have a legitimate answer.
I gave you one, maybe people have just given up on it? Again just cause you and some others here might think it’s perfect (well i know you dont think that way but you understand what i mean) does not mean others do. I have lots of friends who gave up upon the series at that point, a little sooner or a little later cause it was not interesting anymore.
For me i liked the Pilot the most but there were so many episodes that felt like “new creature of the week” and other stuff that ALMOST turned me off, the only reason i watched was cause i wanted to hear more about the story which did came but many gave up to that point.
Now i still argue that this show failed cause it was to much storybased, think of how shows work that want to sell toys. Mostly they work like Power Rangers or the old Thundercats or He-Man shows. Those shows showed mostly every character each episode, every weapon, vehicle and other stuff just to promote the toys. Also the same reason they do the same “BY THE POWER OF GRAYSKULL” or “THUNDERCATS HOOO” just to market the brand even more.
Now i like what they were doing with the NS, skipping all those “monster of the week” like episodes but this just shows that it does not work the same way it did. I loved watching CN when i was little, mostly the PowerPuff Girls, Dexter, Johnny Bravo, Tom and Jerry mostly cause i could never “miss something” cause each episode stood on it’s own. If you missed an episode of Thundercats you were ****ed, and it’s not like every kid and family member is gonna “waste time” to try and remember when the show has a re-run, they just put on the tv and watch whats there.
Now i went way of topic but tldr; people probably got bored, i’ve seen it happen first hand and i almost feel for it myself, but i stuck with it to the end.
EDIT: I think the show would have been great on another channel like say Nick.
Not that I want to go back to what originally sparked this cat fight. But starting at the beginning of January Saturday NFL Playoff games started. Among those were some prime time games. Just saying based on the demo targeted with Toonami and the overall impact NFL games have on the ratings, it may be safe to speculate some type of correlation. Just saying…

If Toonami’s ratings were down as an whole, you can’t really put that down to ThunderCats alone! If every show had a significant drop there probably is another reason.
Though I don’t understand the big drama over it to be honest…
Wow havent poste hère in a long a time. Anyway i do agree with people going back to college thing, I mean, i didn’t get a chance to watch this week’s episode because of going back to college for me is to get my sleep schedule back on track and i have two projects due this week.But some times i break my rules now and then lol. Not to mention usually the first month semester there is a lot of people going to school then people start dropping out or try for next semester. I have seen a class go from 25 down to 15 or 10.
After careful analysis I think i found the reason why the numbers dropped overall. In fact I’ve identified the specific person at CN responsible for it and have evidence as to how he did it.

Well whatever caused the big decline in ratings that week doesn’t seem to matter anymore, since TCats got 1,055,000 last Saturday.

And yes, that is the highest number that TCats has had on Toonami. And it got more than Naruto that week.

Yes, but what episodes were they that got 600,000 and 1,000,000+ ratings?
It was the “Trials of Lion-O” Part 1 and Part 2 respectively. The previous episodes to break 1,000,000 were “The Forest of Magi Oar” and “Into the Astral Plane.”
“Between Brothers” came pretty close at 993,000 and “New Alliances” got 951,000. This all began when the show was bumped up to the 1:00 am time slot on December 15th. So, the earlier time slot gave it a pretty big boost, when the ratings in the previous few weeks were closer to around 700,000. Here’s what the numbers have been so far on Toonami since TCats started airing on it.

The drama was about how he has been acting to everyone on this forum overall. Not about the ratings ;p It went off-topic fast.
Also it’s very nice the ratings go up. It probably wont change the “Bad ending” too a “Happy ending” but still nice.
I would submit that the majority of viewers are first time viewers of the series. The real question is, does this carry over down the line when you have repeats of the repeats.
Either way, it is still not a good enough number to resurrect the show, especially considering the high cost per episode and the lack of a solid merchandising component.
It’s the highest number it’s ever had on Toonami. Is it really so hard to believe that it’s just a lot of people enjoying and following the show? It’s been in that time slot for over a month now, I would think that most of the new viewers aren’t new anymore.
If the ratings for the whole block take a dip for one week and I try to find some kind of logical explanation for it, I’ll get accused of making up excuses for it. But when ThunderCats reaches a high point in the ratings, after it’s broken a million two times before, stayed high in its post-midnight time slot overall, when it’s getting higher numbers than the shows that previously occupied that time slot and can get a higher rating than the show before it (which happens to be the still widely popular Naruto), it’s just new viewers who might not keep watching, and that isn’t an excuse?
If the majority of viewers are first timers, that also means that’s even more people who are watching it than before. There are even more fans of it, even if not every first timer who watches it becomes a fan. It’s been on Toonami for 16 weeks now, and if those numbers are anything to go by, it’s been gaining more than it’s losing. The people who run Toonami wouldn’t place it earlier if it had been doing badly in their eyes. Tenchi GXP was moved later because it was doing poorly and I’d guess the Toonami crew know a lot more about ratings than any of us.
All things considered, it’s not up to us whether or not these numbers are good enough to resurrect the show, and as much as we like to act like we understand ratings, I doubt any of us really know how significant these numbers actually are. Neither side can really prove which is right or wrong, at least not now. No single week of ratings is ever going to be enough proof.
When the ratings go down, the people who don’t like the show will say that’s proof that the show’s failing, and those who like it will try to find some other explanation. When the ratings go up, the people who do like it see it as a sign that the show is doing well, and those that don’t like it will just say that it’s still not high enough to bring the show back. This is just going to keep being repeated over and over, and everyone’s going to keep making excuses in one form or another. Both sides want to “win,” so they can wave it in the other sides face and say “See, you were wrong, I was right.” I’m getting tired of it, and it’s all I ever see on this forum anymore, being right is just so important. Fans can’t just enjoy the show and talk about it, everything got to be this same pointless debate. Maybe that’s one of these reasons why hardly anyone posts here these days, but I’m sure someone’s just going to tell me “It’s because the show sucked,” right?
Is it really so bad that fans can’t just see these ratings and be just glad that people are watching? Is it really necessary to keep trying to remind people that chances of the show coming back are slim? Isn’t there something better to do than trying to ruin people’s enjoyment of the show or trying to prove yourself superior on the topic of an animated TV show? Is it so wrong for people to just like the show and enjoy the 26 episodes they got? The only thing to be had from proving the show was a failure is bragging rights and rubbing it in the faces of anyone who did enjoy the show, and I find that immature. At least if the other side “wins” they might get the show back.
Fact is, right now neither side of this fanbase is going to convince the other that ThunderCats was a success or failure, probably not until it at least finishes its run on Toonami. If the show’s not coming back, fine, but there’s no point in trying to crush people’s hopes that it could come back other than to just make them feel bad. Saying that it’s not coming back isn’t going to “enlighten” anyone who believes otherwise. All it’s seemed to have done is ruined this fanbase.
This forum used to be a place I enjoyed coming to, this used to be the place for me to be a ThunderCats fan, but I can’t even have that anymore. If there isn’t a second season, I could at least look to these increasing ratings and be glad that people are still watching it and enjoying it, but apparently that’s not allowed either, is it?.
Exactly. I feel like I have no place here, even being on the specifically labeled 2011 ThunderCats threads, to state any sort of fact OR opinion without being shot down or accused of something. And that’s why I haven’t posted as much. I feel like it’s a lot more hostile environment around here and it was NOT that way when the show was on. When it was, the only arguments were between shippers, interpretation of plot, and speculation. Now it’s just “the show was awesome and didn’t deserve to be cancelled” followed by “every single aspect was a failure, and the OS was an almighty god-given gift from the heavens that died for our sins and shall rise again to restore faith in humanity” or “your opinion is wrong because I feel like I’m right when I say the show sucks and base my decision on seeing two episodes and absolutely no facts whatsoever” (okay, that’s maybe a little too harsh and literal). Anyway, it’s still becoming a problem and the people with the best intentions for the franchise seem to be the most often victimized.
If people can come on here and start baseless arguments in order to insult the very show this website is meant for, then I must ask myself why I even remain an active user here. It’s so frustrating, knowing this used to be one of my favorite forums to visit.
