It’s the highest number it’s ever had on Toonami. Is it really so hard to believe that it’s just a lot of people enjoying and following the show? It’s been in that time slot for over a month now, I would think that most of the new viewers aren’t new anymore.

If the ratings for the whole block take a dip for one week and I try to find some kind of logical explanation for it, I’ll get accused of making up excuses for it. But when ThunderCats reaches a high point in the ratings, after it’s broken a million two times before, stayed high in its post-midnight time slot overall, when it’s getting higher numbers than the shows that previously occupied that time slot and can get a higher rating than the show before it (which happens to be the still widely popular Naruto), it’s just new viewers who might not keep watching, and that isn’t an excuse?

If the majority of viewers are first timers, that also means that’s even more people who are watching it than before. There are even more fans of it, even if not every first timer who watches it becomes a fan. It’s been on Toonami for 16 weeks now, and if those numbers are anything to go by, it’s been gaining more than it’s losing. The people who run Toonami wouldn’t place it earlier if it had been doing badly in their eyes. Tenchi GXP was moved later because it was doing poorly and I’d guess the Toonami crew know a lot more about ratings than any of us.

All things considered, it’s not up to us whether or not these numbers are good enough to resurrect the show, and as much as we like to act like we understand ratings, I doubt any of us really know how significant these numbers actually are. Neither side can really prove which is right or wrong, at least not now. No single week of ratings is ever going to be enough proof.

When the ratings go down, the people who don’t like the show will say that’s proof that the show’s failing, and those who like it will try to find some other explanation. When the ratings go up, the people who do like it see it as a sign that the show is doing well, and those that don’t like it will just say that it’s still not high enough to bring the show back. This is just going to keep being repeated over and over, and everyone’s going to keep making excuses in one form or another. Both sides want to “win,” so they can wave it in the other sides face and say “See, you were wrong, I was right.” I’m getting tired of it, and it’s all I ever see on this forum anymore, being right is just so important. Fans can’t just enjoy the show and talk about it, everything got to be this same pointless debate. Maybe that’s one of these reasons why hardly anyone posts here these days, but I’m sure someone’s just going to tell me “It’s because the show sucked,” right?

Is it really so bad that fans can’t just see these ratings and be just glad that people are watching? Is it really necessary to keep trying to remind people that chances of the show coming back are slim? Isn’t there something better to do than trying to ruin people’s enjoyment of the show or trying to prove yourself superior on the topic of an animated TV show? Is it so wrong for people to just like the show and enjoy the 26 episodes they got? The only thing to be had from proving the show was a failure is bragging rights and rubbing it in the faces of anyone who did enjoy the show, and I find that immature. At least if the other side “wins” they might get the show back.

Fact is, right now neither side of this fanbase is going to convince the other that ThunderCats was a success or failure, probably not until it at least finishes its run on Toonami. If the show’s not coming back, fine, but there’s no point in trying to crush people’s hopes that it could come back other than to just make them feel bad. Saying that it’s not coming back isn’t going to “enlighten” anyone who believes otherwise. All it’s seemed to have done is ruined this fanbase.

This forum used to be a place I enjoyed coming to, this used to be the place for me to be a ThunderCats fan, but I can’t even have that anymore. If there isn’t a second season, I could at least look to these increasing ratings and be glad that people are still watching it and enjoying it, but apparently that’s not allowed either, is it?.

For what it’s worth I enjoyed the NS and wanted to see it to its conclusion. But I am not going pretend that was smash hit. Because if it was it wouldn’t be “on hiatus”. Could it have been? Maybe? That’s a reasonable topic for discussion, but it doesn’t change where the show is now.

It’s fantastic that it’s getting great ratings on Toonami, but as I said before it’s an expensive show to make and you need to pay for it. Is getting the same numbers as an anime that went of the air years ago something worth getting excited over? I personally don’t think so, but that can be debated and discussed, not treated as an attack.

But, I’ll just shut up now. Since you treat anything brought up that goes counter to your belief as a personal dig and then rant about I’ll just leave you to it.

Exactly. I feel like I have no place here, even being on the specifically labeled 2011 ThunderCats threads, to state any sort of fact OR opinion without being shot down or accused of something. And that’s why I haven’t posted as much. I feel like it’s a lot more hostile environment around here and it was NOT that way when the show was on. When it was, the only arguments were between shippers, interpretation of plot, and speculation. Now it’s just “the show was awesome and didn’t deserve to be cancelled” followed by “every single aspect was a failure, and the OS was an almighty god-given gift from the heavens that died for our sins and shall rise again to restore faith in humanity” or “your opinion is wrong because I feel like I’m right when I say the show sucks and base my decision on seeing two episodes and absolutely no facts whatsoever” (okay, that’s maybe a little too harsh and literal). Anyway, it’s still becoming a problem and the people with the best intentions for the franchise seem to be the most often victimized.

If people can come on here and start baseless arguments in order to insult the very show this website is meant for, then I must ask myself why I even remain an active user here. It’s so frustrating, knowing this used to be one of my favorite forums to visit.

I don’t mean that in the literal sense, but I can respectfully disagree or agree with you, and you can choose to ignore or respond. But please don’t dismiss a countering view because you feel it is not worthy of attention or because others don’t share your point of view.

Honestly, if more people posted like you, it would be a lot better. Your statement(s) actually have factual information as well as your opinions and you’re being realistic. It seems both sides are a little guilty of unrealistic optimism and pessimism.

I haven’t been on this site for a good long while (due to RL) and decided to return. I’ve heard and knew about Thundercats being on Toonami for a long while and am very elated that the show is getting more of better reception and treatment, and will try to remain hopeful that this will grant the show a chance of a second season.

However, I’m also with KorbenDallas and think that if Thundercats airing on Toonami doesn’t work out, HUB would be a good place for it.

I don’t treat it as a “personal dig” monothingie, and I’m not mad at you specifically. What I am is frustrated that I can’t just enjoy the show anymore with other people without this being brought up every time, on top of being irritated when people assume I’m easily offended by a differing opinion like some fan boy. I’m okay with differing opinions when people are actually polite, and for the most part you are polite monothingie, but not everyone is and at times it just seems like people just want to be jerks about it.

The Hub sounds cool but that would mean Hasbro has to do the toy line since the Hub is affiliated with Hasbro.

I wonder what G4TV will do to their network since they are taking off X-Play and “Attack of The Show”.

I don’t think it’s likely Thundercats will air on the Hub, at least not for a while. And G4 has kind of been canceled, being rebranded as the Esquire Channel.

Correct me if I’m wrong but does CW for kids still air on Saturday mornings? That’s WB network, I would imagine CN is out the picture if the series returns.

Again just dreams. Even if they had it right now it probably would be shelved cause they have TMNT and Avatar. Thundercats just is not enough to compete with other shows. It made a nice try and i still like it, it just did not try enough. What i mean by that is that it was not a winning product like other shows have been.

With the right team behind it, and if it had been done right from the beginning it could have been a great success. If it had been more like MOTU 200X and TMNT, everything we liked about the original and amplified and expanded to appeal to new and old fans. Instead it was a new continuity that old fans could not relate to. Modelling Thundercats on Avatar and other animes was a bad idea as those type of shows do not attract young viewers or generate toy sales.

As I said on another thread, it’s not a bad show, in many ways it is brilliant, but I just don’t think it worked as Thundercats. But the main point is it just didn’t work as a toy show aimed at young children.

Looks like after thundercats is over it will be replace with One Piece. Which is a bonus for me because it is my favorite anime in the world but I will greatly miss thundercats.

Sadly the anime has become unwatchable for me as a manga reader (filler argh). But tbh I’ve lost interest in the manga now too a bit, after the war, which to put it bluntly was just too epic for its own good at that part in the story.

Btw the Avatar team making Thundercats would be seriously amazing. Imagine those action scenes!

ThunderCats appears to be rerunning episodes again, according to [as] schedule, so it isn’t being replaced yet. I expect it might be shifting time slots again once One Piece is added.
