I think this episode mainly just high-lighted what they are doing wrong. Just look at the continuity:
ep 21: Mumm-Ra gets the sword of plun-darr.
ep 22: Filler that doesn’t even involve the main cast.
ep 23: The main cast fights Mumm-Ra, the sword plays no part here.
ep 24: When the episode starts, they suddenly have to hurry because mumm-ra has the sword of plun-darr!! Then we get another semi-filler that doesn’t even involve Mumm-Ra. At the beginning of the episode they are all together, but after that not only wilykit and wilykat are gone, but now also the 2 females, and we are given no explanation why.
There are similar problems with the continuity of the inter-personal relationships between the cast. Some of the romance stuff doesn’t follow properly, same with lion-o and tygra, it’s as if the writers of the newer episodes are taking revenge on tygra for being mean to lion-o in the beginning.
Young Justice had these problems in its first season, and they fixed it in Invasion by cutting down to 3 writers. Hopefully they’ll do the same to this show.
Hmm it did ? seems like it only empasizes what I said on another thread : first season is still “experimental” (and Thundercats is really good for something relatively “new”) it happens to alot of shows , and it will get better …
I’m up for everyone on the crew throwing ideas in the air (because the creativity in Thundercats is what hooked me to it in the first place) but let just a few people to do the actual story writing … if not just 1 .
Many episodes in the OS didn’t feature the whole team in action and they were kind of separated in certain occasions going on solo missions.
As long as the story progresses and it’s good writing i don’t mind it.
That’s another thing. All the episodes have had good writing, they’re just slightly scatterbrained on some of the plot points. I don’t mind it at all, really, considering my favorite show ever (Teen Titans) barely even had a plot.

It’s only for the sacred family line (or something like that). Plus, Claudus could basically only use it as a sword. Only Lion-O can use it to its full potential.
I am not too familiar with how the writing of shows works, but I believe many episodes are made simultaneously over the span of a few months. So if you’re gonna use different writers, you just need one guy to look over everything and ensure continuity.
And I read on TV tropes that it can be pretty bad to have continuity fails because even kids pick up on this, maybe even moreso than adults because they simply get a lot more engrossed in their favorite show(s).
I might have given the given the wrong impression about what I was trying to say by putting the word “even” in there, but let me explain. Filler is perfectly fine. But even in the OS they wouldn’t cut up a story arc with filler. Take for example Mumm-Ra releasing the Lunatacs, this story arc spans over 5 episodes but they don’t break it up with filler. Now we look at the NS:
Mumm-ra gets the sword of plun-darr (21) which adds urgency to the situation, this is confirmed later (24), but they also cut it up with filler (22) and even worse, with filler that directly deals with Mumm-Ra (23) but which ignored this plotline. And episode 23 is easily one of my favorites if you look at it in isolation.
If this gets renewed I do hope they fix this sort of writing. I already like the show, and I’m pretty easy to please because I am a big fan of the thundercats franchise, but it just makes me sad to think how great this remake could have been if they had just been a bit more consistent.
I have honestly enjoyed all the filler, but 3/26 isn’t too bad for filler. The fact that they’re putting them near the finale will only make the finale seem better.
Michael Jelenic is supposed to have been working with all the writers. Not to be one of those MJ haters like there are in other sites, but If he’s working with each of the writers he should be able to spot inconsistencies better.
Overall I love the series and individually almost all the episodes are great. But as a whole some of it is inconsistent. Personally I would’ve been fine if they had jumped straight into this episode after Birth of the Blades. I wouldn’t feel like I had missed anything (even though I rather liked the last two as stand alone episodes).
I’ve just finished watching “Soul Server”. It’s the most disturbing episode to date, with Soul Server and Robo-Tygra being the most terrifying characters I’ve ever seen in an animated show. But there was the sad aspect, with the backstory of Soul Server and his family falling victim of the Mega-Makers, and Soul Server’s grief at losing his family a second time. The poor guy wasn’t mad, he was desperate to get his wife and children back, so that made his grief all the more painful to watch. I too would have liked to have seen Pumyra, Cheetara, and the Kittens involved, but the way this story was set up I don’t think they would have been used much, so it was probably for the best that they stayed in the background. I loved Flicker; he’s so much cuter than Lucy in the previous episode and the real hero of the tale. I was saddened by his presumed death right there at the end until he came back to life. I wouldn’t have known that Jeffrey Combs, who I remember from “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”, voiced Soul Server if some members here hadn’t said so. My thanks to them.

The show doesn’t need a bigger timeslot. It’s doing fine in the one it’s already in. And they seem to be doing pretty well with the storyarcs they’re currently writing, even if some are fillers. Fillers have their place too.

I don’t agree. But I’m sure they’ll eventually get around to doing Kaynar and Addicus’s backstories. Who knows, maybe they’ll even do Mumm-Ra’s.

I’ve watched the OS as a kid, but while I found it fascinating, it could not replace Tintin as my one true fave. Also, I was introduced to SilverHawks first before TC (They’ve got their own profanity-loaded blooper-reel too btw :P). And I was totally blown away by the NS (Until Tygra and Cheetara kissed, which made me so sad for Lion-O that I stopped watching until Pumyra came along. flicker of hope in eyes)
Anyhow, I watched “Soul Sever” and I had to skip some parts as it was so disturbing, especially hearing the cries of those poor souls of SS’ family, as well as his cry of grief at losing said souls (I know, I’m that cheesy). I’m also cross about the lack of ThunderGals and ThunderKittens.
But I’m sure they’ll turn up in the next two weeks. For which I found synopses: What Lies Above-Part 1: “The Cats find a way to reach the next Stone, but Mumm-Ra also finds a way and the battle for the next Stone ensues.” Mumm-Ra gets the stone, which leads to Part 2: “Lion-O must retrieve the stone or Mumm-Ra will have enough power to charge his Sword of Plun-Darr and bring darkness to the world.” Maybe he’ll activate the Armour of Omens..!!

Surprisingly, this show doesn’t have many actual pure fillers. Most of the fillers in this show serve a purpose. I.E. character development, a minor plot development towards the main plot, etc. This latest episode does show us that the book is fine and that the next stone is up in the sky like it’s pointing. It also confirmed that Jaga is actually inside the book as well.
