Anyone else wondering how people are finding the episode scary? I liked it, but I was more scared watching Courage the Cowardly Dog than I was in this episode. I just can’t see it being scary. I can see sad, or slightly disturbing, but not frightening.
I think the episode could have been scary, but it didn’t quite live up to being that. There were a few elements missing.
I guess it could be scary if you got immersed in it, I can see that, but it failed to do that for me.
I got really into it the second time I watched it. I liked the story a lot, but it never came off to me as scary. I don’t think it was meant to be scary either.
In recipie for disaster he fought them in day time , in a form that, if you ask me , is alot scarier than the sword of plundar . and if you think about it , Lion-O has already beat him while he was using it (twice 
) . so I don’t think it matters THAT much … not until we have any idea where Mum-Ra will strike next . where they’ll have trouble fighting him now that the power balance has shifted this season . as he not only he has 2 new commandors . he got his legendary sword back .
I’ve said it surprised me that Lion-o showed no worries at Tygra getting his soul severed, adn some of you replied he knew it wouldn’t work, so he didn’t worry about it.
So I watched the ep again, and Lion-o didn’t know it wouldn’t work unitl the SS said something about a spark, and Lion-o told Flicker it knew what to do. Until then, he should have been worried/sad for his brother.
He seems to be more concerned with the missions lately than emotions. His concern was vented through trying to find a way to fix the situation in a mature and serious manner.
Although he’s been berated because of his emotions (even by himself) “Recipe for Disaster” and “The Soul Sever” show that he’s emotional when appropriate, even in battle. Even though his affection for Pumyra causes him to make some poor decisions in his personal life, when it comes down to the battle his feelings for and desire to protect her actually makes him stronger and allows him to pull off an attack that he not only hadn’t used before, but actually hurts the supposedly nigh-invulnerable Sycorax Mumm-Ra.
Now although his feelings about his brother are entirely different, He is horrified and driven to fight harder after his transformation.
I think, especially with Pumyra, that his deep care for her makes him more confident in himself, which he was severely lacking in the first half of the season. Sure, his way of showing her affections wasn’t the most smooth, but when it comes to fighting he will NOT let ANYTHING touch her. In this case, his emotions do make him stronger, just proving wrong what Mumm-Ra told him.
Which brings me to another point: Mumm-Ra seems to want to go specifically after Pumyra. I think he knows Lion-O has a crush on her, so he tries to indirectly get him to fight through her. It seems to be a major downfall to Mumm-Ra, because Lion-O only gets more determined and powerful when Pumyra is in trouble.
It vaguely reminded me of things that were scary as a kid, but I can’t point to anything specific atm though.
That is some of the things I was refering to when I said their interpersonal relationships also suffer from inconsistency. In itself Lion-o’s reactions are not abnormal for a show like this, crazy stuff happens, they deal with it, thundercats is a lot like that (ie, put this in an OS episode and you wouldn’t even notice). But in other episodes they focus so much on their emotions towards each-other that you have come to expect them to behave differently.
Another example would be how they have focussed so much on Cheetara, Pumyra and their romantic involvements in the past, and we had Wilykit and Wilykat say they are looking forward to seeing the others again. Then we start this episode off, and they are all together again. But the only ones who talk are Lion-O, Tygra and Panthro. The others just stand there. And then they are gone. Say what? I can understand the writers want to focus on something else now, but in light of the previous episodes this comes off as pretty weird.
About the girls and the kids not appearing in the last episode . it’s obvious the guys just went to the junk shop , and get some stuff fixed . and left them behind . it’s not a place to hold so many people , not to mention it wouldn’t interest them much…
He didn’t care about him getting love drunk the last episode either , even when he drank it by mistake his “what have I done” was more like - “dang I wanted Pumyra to drink it” . and come to think of it , Cheetarah didn’t either .

Considering how independent he implies to be, I’m not surprised. Pumyra showed some concern for him, saying “What should we do with him?”, but it was more of a “Is he going to help or not? I want to get this over with.” And yes, I think Lion-O said that because he wanted to talk to Pumyra, not because he had to deal with an overly-emotional brother.
He’s just lucky he’s cute!

Whoa Back that up a bit. Who is to say they would not find a junk shop interesting? Sorry if you did not mean anything specific by that statement but I hear BS like that all the time and it sets me off. Now if they writers gave them the line we don’t care about junk that wold be one thing but to just assume it… Nope not gonna have it. Every one LOVES JUNK! or at least are curious enough about it to want to take a look.:p:rolleyes:
So, if I get you right, it is right to be distracted because of your feelings toweards a girl, but not sad because of your feelings towards your brother getting killed, and in those situations you have to focus on battle? 
I think Lion-o showed a lot more concern towards his teammates in the OS.

I never said it was right, it’s just what he does. He shows less concern for Tygra because he loves Tygra like a brother and Pumyra as a girlfriend. Tygra, being the big brother he is, has probably instilled that he can protect himself without Lion-O’s help, so he doesn’t worry as much.
Pretty much. Their entire lives Tygra has been bigger, stronger, better than Lion-O, so he just assumes Tygra can take care of himself. Pumyra on the other hand has demonstrated that she does need his help so he feels much more defensive and protective of her.
But Pumyra didn’t seem like a damsel in distress when we first saw her in “The Pit.”
