Best moment of the episode…
Panthro telling the SS guy that his story bored Tygra..he should have added that it also bored pretty much everyone too…the best part though was the cut of SS’s face LOL
Loved when Tygra mentions “..Cheetara and the Kids..”..we were just discussing their actual kids in another thread LOL.

well like i may have said in the last ep at least it had some humor which i enjoyed for a little bit of the ep, this ep from this past week had nothing that i would wanna see repeated again
Yeah - I liked the fact that the ep. was about a big theme like technology versus nature. That’s what I love about the original series – there was always some grand theme being explored, and I love the little lessons at the end. It was a good lesson for Lion-O. And the ep. had Jeffrey Combs (squeal)!!
I am curious as to how Tygra keeps getting slammed by what seems like lethal force in each episode, and never seems to come away with so much as a scratch. I hope there is some interesting, in-story reason for it. He also survived the plague that wiped out the rest of his clan without even getting sick…could be something interesting with this. Better than just Kenny treatment like SouthPark.
I liked the design of the Soul Server character. Dan Norton and the team has done a great job on creating such visually interesting characters and places.
The episode itself wasn’t one of the better ones though, I kept waiting to see if it would flip over to Pumyra and Cheetara having some sort of conversation or interaction of any kind that could develop their relationship a bit. Missed opportunity.
Agreed. It is a little painful that now the Soul Sever has as much back story as Cheetara has had recently.
No, that’s pretty much all there is to it. Now that Lion-O has come out of his trials as a Grade-A badass Tygra’s job is to be the butt-monkey and take all the punishment and embarrassment because Lion-O is The Hero. As for him escaping the plague, he was just sent away before he could get sick, His father Javan wasn’t sick at the time either.
Then what was Tygra at began he’s still a chronic pain just not as severe at second guessing lion-O has happened since the triales but he hasint had a good shot to take.
^ Yep. Well, you can’t blame me for trying. How much more interesting would it be to just make Lion-O stronger, and have him play off a strong second? Taking a great character like Tygra and letting him decay into a butt monkey is a real shame.

It’ll be interesting to see if and how they address this going into the finale. I think the thing that would finally cause him to break would be finding out that Lion-O and Pumyra are an item. Not because of jealousy or any desire for her, but because it would take away the last thing Tygra could hold over him (Tygra having a girlfriend and Lion-O not).
As cool as that would be, Tygra’s jealousy taking over another finale would be stupid and repetitive. Plus, did he not expect Lion-O to NEVER get a girlfriend/queen ever (not saying Pumyra is the definite queen yet)?
I didn’t see Kit, Kat and Snarf either in this one.

The robotic insect stopped Panthro’s from moving but didn’t reach Tygra’s in time.
Tygra hasn’t really teased Lion-O about Cheetara. He hasn’t been shown using her to hurt Lion-O. He never held Cheetara over Lion-O. Other than the one he thought he had with Cheetara, I don’t think Tygra gives Lion-O’s romances all that much thought.
The crown, the sword and Cheetara are one thing, but now he’s upset because he can’t tease Lion-O about not having a girlfriend? Seems really petty IMO. I mean he was upset about the crown and sword because Lion-O got them without working for them, not because he just wanted to be a petty jerk.
Ah! Time to take a look at this week’s new episode, “The Soul Sever.” Or as I like to say it Soul Train style, “The SOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUL Sever!” 
After last week’s lackluster “Recipe for Disaster,” the show came back strong with this episode. Which is interesting considering the largely negative reaction this ep seems to be getting, which is in direct inverse with last week’s. A lot of the positive reaction from that ep I think was its due to being similar to an OS episode. And I think that was the problem with me, as I’m on record for saying I was never a huge fan of the OS. I favor the darker, more mature take the new series has (incidentally, since I didn’t get to post it in the other thread, I’d be all for moving the new TCats to the new Toonami if it means they’d be free to do more stories like this), and that was in full display here. And I think it’s episodes like this that draws a line of demarcation in the fandom. Probably more so here than anywhere else. But like I keep saying to the OS fans when I quote Ron Moore: “The popcorn’s in the other aisle.”
But yes, I really liked this ep. I think the casting of Jeffrey Combs as the Soul Sever was awesome. Combs has played a string of iconic genre characters (Re-Animator, Doctor Mordrid, Weyoun, The Question and Ratchet just to name a few) so his casting here was genius. And I had the feeling the showrunners cast him for his work on Re-Animator in particular, as it felt at times like Combs was reaching back to his performance in that movie for this.
Also, the mention of the Necro-Mechs for some reason made me think of the Necrons from Warhammer 40,000. Too bad they didn’t look anything at all like them. Something like the Necrons would feel right at home in the new TCats show, IMO.
Sad that the Thundertank got trashed. But I have the feeling that it’ll be rebuilt bigger and badder than ever. Sounds like with the mention of the crashed airship that they might also be teasing the creation of the Feliner as well!
And Tygra gets turned into a Transformer! At least, that’s what I thought. And yeah, apparently I’m not the only one who got Akira flashbacks either! And while it’s probably nowhere near the kinds of horrors he’s inflicted on Tygra, I’m betting RD Rivero would be pretty amused by this!
But I think the biggest thing I liked was how tragic they made the Soul Sever out to be. And this is the thing that needs to be understood about villains, because villains don’t often see themselves as such. Much like the Soul Sever was doing in this ep, they see themselves as trying to do the right thing, but their own selfishness and obsessions have caused them to lose sight of the effects that their actions would have on others. In short, they lose their sense of empathy and compassion. And that’s what makes them monstrous in the eyes of others. Fortunately for the Soul Sever, he was able to be made to understand the consequences of his actions, that it was wrong to keep holding on to the souls of his family and to let them go; painful as it was for him. And he was able to gain redemption. It’ll be interesting to see if the show revisits him and find out where his character will go from here.
So while others may not have liked it, I’m going to have to beg to differ. This was a great ep for me! Have to give it a 4 1/2 out of 5!
I have to laugh at the “butt-monkey” thing that Tygra’s getting pinned as. xD
They made the robot cry, now I have seen everything. And the bug clearly had some bugs.
This wasn’t one of my favorite episodes. I felt it could have been better than it was.
I liked the Soul Sever character and I felt they could have made this a more emotional and dark episode with him driving the story. By the way, did anybody else besides me think that he was going to be revealed as Vultureman? With those robot wings and the obsession with technology, I thought “is this how they are going to do Vultureman?”. It would have been interesting.
I also liked that the team for this episode was Lion-O, Tygra, & Panthro. The three dudes on a wild adventure and it gave them a chance to play off of each other without having to find room for the romance angles. Not that I dislike the romance stuff, but it was nice to get a break for it from it for one episode. I would actually love it if they did an all girls episode focusing on Cheetara and Pumyra. Of course we’d have to get a Season 2 for that to happen (PLEASE!!!).
I also thought it was interesting that the Thundertank got destroyed. I wonder how they are going to address that in the last two episodes.
Now what didn’t work for me?
Well it seemed strange that the lesson Lion-O had to learn in this one was that technology is good, the people that use them could be bad. Yes, Technology brought about the fall of Thundera, but its also done a lot of good for the Thundercats. Up to this point, The Berbils have arguably been the T-Cats most useful allies and they are mechanical living beings. The Thundertank saved them all in “Song of the Pedalars”. Technology has come in handy for them so many times that it just seems strange that Lion-O would all of a sudden be down on it.
I also thought this episode with its premise had a chance to be a really emotional and really dark episode more akin to “Curse of Ratilla” and “Native Son”. The Soul Sever himself should have been an emotional and tragic character on par with Mr. Freeze from the Animated Batman Show. Unfortunately, it never strikes that emotional chord like “Heart of Ice” did. Also, when Tygra’s soul was converted into a robot body, that should have been soul crushing for Lion-O to see his brother turned into a monstrosity. But that was hardly addressed. The emotional core of the episode was a cute little robot lightning bug, and that character felt unnecessary considering what they already had with The Soul Sever and the lesson of the episode feeling a bit out of place.
Overall, not a bad episode, but one of unfulfilled potential.
Decent episode, but I felt bad for the Soul Sever. The finale looks very interesting though!
