She wasn’t unfriendly to him in this episode until he gave her that flower that squirted her in the eye and she got over it after the swelling on her face went down. Anything else was just her not liking standard romantic stuff like giving flowers and stuff. She really doesn’t strike me as a woman that likes that kind of stuff and just liked Lion-O being himself.

Overall, I gave it 3.5/5; I loved watching Lion-O do the OS back flip and the final scene with the butterfly was 
. Unfortunately, Tygra’s reaction to the love potion that was meant for Pumyra went on a bit longer than I thought it should have been. I was hoping the cat signal would snap him out of it.
I’m not especially comfortable with the damsel-in-distressing being the big moment either, but the show does have a history of prowess in battle pretty explicitly being a big turn-on! They did the same thing with Tygra slack-jawed and “drooling” at Cheetara as she ran up to face Mumm-ra in “Journey to the Tower of Omens” and with Cheetara also wide-eyed at Tygra in “Into the Astral Plane” when he rescued them all in the tank. (Not to mention Lion-O when he first sees Pumyra in the The Pit!)
I also don’t think that Pumyra and Lion-O’s relationship is inconsistent. She was furious at him in “The Pit” because she felt that he had abandoned his people, but in the end decided not to, you know, kill him in cold blood for it because he seemed genuinely repentant. In “Curse of Ratilla” she was nicer to him at the start – the mild flirtation – inkeeping with her treatment of him at the end of “The Pit,” but when the cat slaves became an issue, she understandably resisted his predilection for mercy towards the rats because of that very personal connection. When that mercy saved them, she went along with it. And I don’t think “Birth of the Blades” was anything but her natural abrasiveness, frankly. She doesn’t like something someone is doing she says so. And again in this episode it just seemed like her natural abrasiveness. He’s acting weird and she’s basically just like, “What the hell?”
Also, I think Lion-O being moony for her definitely had its build-up. They made a point of having Lion-O and Pumyra interacting and getting to know each through three episodes! Also, his being worse than he was with Cheetara makes sense because his crush on Cheetara seemed to mostly be based on perceived availability. (She was there. She was hot. She was nice to him so he thought he had an in.) Whereas, he’s clearly explicitly drawn to Pumyra as a person.
Also, I didn’t take Tygra’s remark about Lion-O potentially getting shot down as nasty at all. I think it displayed a lack of faith in Lion-O’s ability to woo Pumyra but Panthro and Cheetara obviously didn’t think he’d be successful either. And Tygra was actually expressing sympathy. Mildly condescending, perhaps, in the manner of many an elder sibling watching their younger sibling do something they think is ill-advised, but not nasty.
I think one of the reasons why Lion-O acts differently around Pumyra than he did Cheetara is because Cheetara was a crush, one that he got over. But he genuinely likes Pumyra and wants to be with her. Even when she’s harsh with him he can’t help but admire her passion and spirit and admits that he’s never met anyone quite like her before.
Likewise Pumyra seems to like Lion-O best when he’s confident and sure of himself. But here he’s unsure and awkward, so she’s a little annoyed with him but still likes him, otherwise she would have told him to get his own wood. Once he goes back to acting like himself and less like a schoolkid with a crush she’s right back with him and even ups the ante by kissing and clinging to him.

Lion-O has spent the most time with her and has definitely connected with her the most. The other cats give her such a wide berth that it’s no wonder they were all like, “That won’t end well!” when they noticed that Lion-O was into Pumyra. They’ve likely never seen her being at all softer than the initial impression she gives.

I agree completely. I think most people don’t understand the full meaning of their relationship. I’m really interested to see how the develop more of a relationship, though it seems pretty clear that they are pretty much together now.

I’m new here. I came here expecting to find people who grew up watching thundercats and appreciate the OS, but from a lot of these comments I’m not so sure.
Granted, the style of animation popped my eyes in surprise a few times, but how can you love the original and not like this episode?

Seldom did the original present plotlines that lent themselves to an overall arc. It was mostly standalone episodes like this where someone comes to kill them, so I don’t get why so many posters here insist that every episode MUST advance the arc.

That’s easy. I don’t love the original and ergo, I don’t like this episode. If I wanted to see standalone episodes with comedy that don’t advance any storyline arc, I’d be watching the OS on DVD instead of this show.

If this was a filler episode it is by far the best filler i have seen from thundercats so far. It was thouroughly entertaining!!! It had nostalgia, comedy, action and romance. My only complaint is how yet again this like so many episodes before it continue to show how weak and dumb Mummra is as a villain. Honestly the cats see more of Mummra’s behind than anything else.
Loved Tygra’s flower power high hippy moment! Any one have a screenshot of that? I would have liked to see more cheetara and tygra interaction especially when he was under the potions spell.
Happy to see Liono describe Pumyra as strong and passionate. He clearly has fallen in love with her for the right reasons. I like it.

Tygra on drugs was funny, but the way it came about was just ugly. At first I thought Lion-O realized he’d done a bad thing (“What did I just do?” and the mournful look on his face when Tygra was hugging him), but then he was all “Oh man, it didn’t work. Now what?”
I wonder if Pumyra realizes that drug was meant for her?
Pumyra’s face terrified me for some reason.
Also, writers, please let us see Pumyra interact with the other cats a little so we can find out more about her personality. If she’s going to be our leading lady, I really want her to be fleshed out more outside of her relationship with Lion-O.

Oh yeah I just remembered something XD there was a part where they chased Ponzi with the Thundertank . and Lion-o came out to signal him . and he was waving his sword . and from afar it looks liked an angry gesture .

Yep I am with you on that one. She gave out such big hints already, if this were in any shape or form to be taken as real, all Lion-o would have to do is move in for the kiss when they are alone, and now they’ve rewritten it as if he needs to start seducing he, or even just get her attention..
I don’t think she’s really changed a lot between episodes. One thing I noticed was, though it might be coincidental, was that before the end of Birth of the Blades, she was only nice to Lion-O when other cats were around. When the two were alone, she was mad at him. Maybe the whole point was to show that she didn’t want the other cats to know she still didn’t trust him. It’s just a theory, but I think it helps sort out the inconsistency. There really wasn’t any weird changes in her between last episode and this episode, because she got mad at him for making her face get messed up, not for being a bad king or anything. In other words, she doesn’t hate him anymore, and anyone would be irritated with someone who messed up your face that bad on accident.

Fairly weak episode here. I don’t know why, but I just wasn’t feeling it for the most part. I agree, there were some good moments here and there, but overall, it just didn’t hold together. Of the parts I did like however…

I thought the naming of the character Ponzi, to me at least, was just heavy-handed. Like they were expecting everyone to go, “Oh-ho! I see what you did there!” The only way they could have made it any more obvious would have been to have named the character “Made-off” (Though that probably would sounded too much like Tookit.)
So in general, some nice spots, but it just didn’t feel to me like it coalesced into a whole. I give it a 2 1/2 out of 5. Here’s hoping for a better ep next week.
^I agree with you. I just personally loved it because I’m a huge fan of comic relief. I think the people who wanted this episode to have a lot of plot movement were just really disappointed so they automatically pushed it aside as a bad episode.
I wouldn’t say that, I was very much hoping for plot advancement but the retro OS feel of this episode caught me by pleasant surprise. (they did it on purpose too I think, the whole OS opening remake shows that)
That’s why I liked it a lot. The OS references were so awesome.
Hee-hee, just watched it again. You’re right I think she was creeped out. Her expression was priceless when she first saw him altered.
