The sword does transform to resemble the OS sword. It isn’t as intimidating looking as the old one, but it does turn into a two-sided sword.

This was Will Friedle’s second “ThunderCats” episode to write. Kudos to him.
Personally I like this one better than the OS SoP. The old one was just snakes wrapped around each other.
So whoever has all three episodes taped. Now we can see then all like a movie.

Overall a very good episode. I would have liked to have known what the other cats were doing, but they didn’t seem to have too important of a task. I like how Pumyra finally apologized to Lion-O and that nice tender moment.
However, I did like the fact that Mumm-Ra got the sword. He hasn’t really done much lately so now him posing a threat will make the plot much more interesting. The flashbacks were somewhat out of place but they did show where Lion-O got his emotional side from.
So, other than the flashbacks being seemingly thrown-in, it was a nice, action-packed episode. Probably give it an 8 or 9.
No. I have the first half of Season 1 on VHS. but I am now putting the Second half on DVD. The only horror is I missed the 1hr Premiere episode. :duh:
I have all 21 taped, or DVR’d I guess.
Ya know this episode reinforced the theory that Lion-O is Leo’s reincarnation. When Mumm-Ra said where is he now? and Lion-O was like “Right here!”

VCR’s tapes last longer than anything that’s out on the market. I was able to pretty much most of season 1 & 2 (no commercials) on one tape except episode 19, which I ran out of real estate with! XD
I liked it too, I loved the whole turning up in force thing, it just seems so much more realistic and threatening than the three mutants in the OS! I agree the whole sun thing is as weak as the mirror plot device in the OS, but I’m glad that he got a win, just to show that it isn’t all that easy for the cats. There would be no real win without the threat of failing. And yeah, I’m thinking that mumm ra is a really old human.

Yeah I’m glad the emotional bits were held back a bit and weren’t too long, this episode needed to be all about the action. I agree the flashbacks seemed a little shoehorned in, but I can live with it as it didn’t jar too much and it was necessary. The only thing I think this episode fell down on I think was not showing enough of the other cats. I hope this isn’t going to be just the liono and pumyra show now! We need panthro bustin more bones for em too!!!
Yeah, I was hoping we’d get to see what this new “Sabertank” can do. It seemed like the perfect opportunity to cut to the others fighting the lizard army. Oh well, I did enjoy the flashbacks though. I’ll take any Mumm-Ra I can get at this point.
I thought the flashbacks were really good. It was nice to see Leo’s turning point from being Mumm-Ra’s loyal commander to starting a rebellion against him.
I thought overall this was a very good episode, I liked the flashbacks in particular which gave Mumm-Ra, Leo and Panthera a lot more depth - not to mention the entire series itself. Mumm-Ra is some sort of interstellar despot, with his menagerie, but even he takes orders from the ASOE. Also loved that the rats were janitorial staff on the ark, that is just too fitting (as was Leo bossing them around).
There were some great lines in this one, possibly my favorite being Kaynar’s “You’re like a toy that never breaks!” Also some really good moments with Lion-O being decisive and acting with confidence, even when he’s being questioned.
My only beef is the strange dynamic between Lion-O and Pumyra in this one, the last episode seemed to show her warming up to him in a big way, then all of a sudden she’s criticizing and mocking him again. It seemed like an odd turnaround.
Did anyone else catch the irritated glance that Tygra and Cheetara shared after Pumyra spoke? Maybe a rift is developing in the group.
